dan106
So today I went to change my gearbox oil and both the drain plug and the level plug rounded off instantly.Any ideas on how to get the fuckers out?
daniel_g
How rounded are they?A good single hex 24mm socket should still do it. Use a bar or a long ratchet.
dan106
I used a single hex dude, span straight off, it's like they've never been undone!
daniel_g
They probably havent.Try getting a goos set of vice grips on the nut and give it a quick jab to release it.I dont think Irwin sockets go as big as 24mm, plus theres not much to grab on those plugs. fiddlersport
get a new set and hammer and chisel if needed or a good set of vice grips to remove old ones off
Phil
Just make sure you can get a half decent grip of them to tighten themI've had mine fall off before lolPhil
Johnboy GT
Can always try chappin on a slightly smaller socket as well.John
Ollieh17
Make sure you have some spares to replace them
StuDoc 72
23 or 22mm 12 point socket and hammer it on. Wee bit of heat around it to the box just not too much as its alloy!
dan106
Gonna order some new ones from Toyota and weld a bolt onto the fucked ones I think, cheers for the replies guys Edited February 25, 2016 by dan106
gorganl2000
seen an older mechanic use a hammer and "dot punch" to remove a broken bolt from a block before,,,just hammer on a slight/side angle in the direction to open,,,maybe try that and see if it moves
Flaminsam
If you can get in put your single hex 24mm socket on with a strong arm/breaker bar. Then get someone to hit towards the stuck plug on the knuckle of the breaker bar. This will effectively shock the plug while you are removing it.
adzy
Mine is rounded and I use vice grips for mine now. Make sure they are the ones with the curved jaws tho
