I had two go on mine at the same time and yes nothing changed, but it was over fueling like a turd. I would have though if you take it out I would have thought it wouldn't run at all well.. :/

Faulty O2? Check the voltage from it?

I'd check the turbo, like just have. Fiddle of the shaft, or even get a stethoscope on it. You checked down the belt side. Maybe it's a pulley or something ?

I'd sat its the turbo, perhaps imbalanced? Or the bearings, shaft?

Is that the noise when off acceleration I can hear? Sounds like a metal ( spinning )kinda noise ? :/

It only makes a rattle/diesel kind of sound on start up then is fine and runs and idles like a dream. I was %99.9999999 sure they didn't have adjustable clearances.

That's exactly what j thought studio, but I thought I'd go on the polo forum and check and they were all saying " tappets etc. I mean j was abit stumped because if it was tappets it would doing all the time, especially when cold. So If in right it isn't a real bad thing? Just must be a bad design on vw part..

Hi all, my daily rubber has the a rattle for a few secs on start up then disappears straight away, even when cold. I think it's valve clearances, but the query j have is whether they can be adjusted on this engine or they self adjusting? It's literally for 2 secs starting from cold and even when it's still cold and warming up it doesn't do it.. Is this a big issue or not really? I'm not sure whether its just that time before the oil reaches that part if the engine? by the way it's a 2001 vw polo gti I know this is a TOYOTA forum but you were all so helpful with my V I can leave

Could be a bit sticky then. Toyota say they should be replaced ever 30-40k if I'm right anyway.

Update guys if anyone can help. On acceleration it's like a cracklings noise, but if you put clutch down and rev it there's no noise at all.. :/ I'm thinking clutch. Springs, bearing :/

The little flap inside is probably bust and stuck open.
