Oops, so you did - I'll get back to you in bit! (there's a few people I need to reply to this evening)
-
M10 bolts 40FtLb, M12 bolts 60FtLb, brake lines/fittings finger tight / by feel. :-) Bleed nipples at the top if you've got two per caliper... ABS should work as normal.
-
Would one of our kits fit out of interest?
-
This fast...?
-
Looking good! I'm lurking along the coast a bit - there are a fair few Starlets in Hastings/Bexhill that I've seen...
-
True - the big advantage of the T10 are the lugs are closer togeither, so there's room to squeeze them onto the OEM disc and into smaller wheels. Sadly half the pistons doesn't mean they cost half as much to make!
-
On WMS 4 pot or OEM 2-pots? The 262.5mm PDF I put up uses the same T20 caliper that all our Starlet kits so far use. However the WMS 2-pot (T10) one I mentioned for the 254mm proposed WMS kit is an opposed 2-piston, not a 2-piston slider like Toyota use. Our T10 caliper is like this:
-
Oh, I'll try and sort you guys out a template for the WMS 2-pot on Starlet standard 254x18 discs soon!
-
Shaved off a WMS caliper (harsh!!!)....depends where from and how it's done. Shaved off someone elses caliper (Toyota I assume) - I can't comment! Removing any raised cast-in lettering is probably ok in 99% of cases but other than that...
-
This! Can be a very risky thing to do...
-
Does this fit any of the 14's you're using? http://www.keri.co.uk/wms/4Pxxx-EP91-262_5mm-T20-rotated.pdf

EBC Red = fast road/200bhp cars (according to EBC!) EBC Yellow and Ferodo DS2500 are road legal trackday pads...more or less EBC Blue and Ferodo DS3000 are track ONLY pads. There's a world of pads out there to try in WMS calipers - I know someone running £150.00+vat Carbotechs in a WMS kit on a Starlet, they have a stonking reputation, up there with Pagid (but cheaper than Pagid!!!).
-
Good point, EBC normally supply stick-on rubber backing things - sometimes they are loose in the box (Yellows tend to be like that) and sometimes they are pre-stuck (Reds most often are like that)...but it does vary!
-
I saw a recent review of one of their kits, and it turns out they supply a bag of washers for the owner to get the fit right by shimming - and they were needed as the caliper wasn't central on the disc. Wasn't very impressed, you won't catch us doing stuff like that!
-
Check the caliper bolts are tight and the pads are free in the carriers. Anything that's been moving should have fine bright-orange rust powder around the joint!
-
It hasn't pinched/kinked a metal brake line has it?
-
Yup, what I mean is maybe he has a soft/leaking master, but the stopper is hiding it by stiffening everything up.... :-)
-
A hard padel and no brakes is NORMALY overheated/faded pads - but: a - You said it started when you fitted the stopper.. b - I normally takes a few stops to overheat pads, you say it's speed dependant.
-
If it's a dual master cyl it'll have two inline pistons/seals, one can fail as far as I understand it. But you're right, it shoud sink more if it's lost a seal...I'm just wondering it the short pedal feel is due to the added stopper effect.
-
Is it's MOT due within a month? If so you could take it for an early MOT which includes running in on a brake tester!
-
Ok, that sounds dangerous (don't fix faults by fitting upgrades, fix it THEN look at new pads). Possibles are air in fluid, ABS fault, failed seal in master cyl, mechanical problem in the pedal/master cyl due to something the stopper has changed (can't think what though). Were you testing it in the wet? In low-grip situations the ABS kicks in early of course.
-
Sounds to me more like the brakes are suddenly working better due to the stopper, but you're not used to it. If a given wheel locks, the brakes are powerful enough in that wheel. Do do mean the wheel locking up, not that the pedal locks up without allowing you to brake? Shuddering under your foot is either ABS, or warped discs. What pads are you running at the moment? No! Don't do that, no need.

Hi, things have been hectic this week - we're out of stock but are taking deposits to reserve kits from the next batch, I'll send you a proper PM message ASAP. (...same goes for the other people I need to reply to, I'll get in touch very soon...) Sorry for being slow! Keri

Give or take a few % that's right... :-)
