An update on this. I got the engine fitted almost a month ago, got everything connected up but the engine wouldn't turn. So after a bit of quick bit of investigation I realized the clutch was fouling the gearbox. This was due to the flywheel/clutch being slightly thicker than the stock ones. No biggie I thought, took the gearbox off and purchased an OEM LSD box. Modified it to fit and after trial fitting it a few times, the engine was freely turning (by hand). Once again I got everything connected back up but the starter still wouldn't turn the engine. Checked and replaced all

Bolt it back on and carefully bend the bracket it back to stop it fouling.

It is a strange one, the flywheel came off a running car too apparently. I haven't noticed it get hot but I'll try to crank it over again and see if it gets hot.

I've now tried 3 starter motors in total, all three of them work perfectly fine off the car. I can't think of anything else other than a flywheel issue, as it is a fair bit thicker than a standard one so maybe that's causing a fault or maybe it has the wrong number of teeth! I will inspect it all when it's off the car

Yes Dan, I've had jump leads connected to another running car each time I've tried to crank it. I only want to crank it over (not start it) so these are the only wires I've got on there that matter, I've replaced them with new cables too but nothing. Live from battery to starter motor Earthed battery Ignition wire to starter motor Live from starter to alternator ECU wire to alternator Wiring loom plug in the alternator I also removed everything related to the alternator and connected a 12V live straight to the ignition connector on the starter motor, I really thought that would get it t

Don't even bother mate, they don't come off easy (at all)! Out of interest, why do you want them off?

Firstly, please do not comment if your comment isn't relevant to the sale. Thank you. I am thinking about breaking the demo car but will only go ahead if I have a confirmed sale on the engine. It's a brand new build forged 5E-FE that has not yet been started up due to an electrical issue with the car. This engine has been build up slowly over the last 6-7 months, I've cut no corners with it as I had to reason to rush the build. Every single thing has been triple checked when assembling it and all moving components have been lubed sufficiently. The spec: 1.5 5E-FE 1500cc Wossner 74.5mm

The starter motors are interchangeable bud, I had the original Glanza starter on my old 5E engine too. Exactly what I'm thinking. I'll see how it goes with another one!

It's not the standard loom as we wire tucked it a few years ago. There's one wire going from the battery to the starter motor and one from the starter to the alternator, it's quite straight forward. I replaced those wires but no joy. I'm swaying towards a dodgy starter motor (even though it works when it's off the car) so we'll see if a new one helps at all.

Yes mate it has a Clifford G5 alarm, I've disarmed the immobiliser but it doesn't help unfortunately!
