I have just put a 4EFE bottom end into my GT Mate. Swapped over these parts from the 4EFTE Cylinder Head (Valve springs only difference) Sump for oil return Oil filter housing Oil pressure switch Thicker MLS Headgasket to lower compression a tad Havent ran it properly yet but the rods and crank are identical to my last glanzas 4EFTE So should be fine.

Love how full on Jap this thing looks, cant wait to see it in the flesh! CT9 Result is amazing too, Nice smooth powerband too. Awesome Man! -
Anddddd im back... After telling myself i wouldnt be back (At least for a LONG Time), And laughing at everybody else bouncing back and buying starlets again im now in the same boat First bought a little baby blue N/A, (Small project thread) And after slapping some mods on got the bug again and bought this thing from Manchester as a rolling shell. Got it for a decent price and its a very clean example, engine bay, boot floor and all the usual bits like sills etc are lovely and clean, And with a bit of time cleaning it up im sure it will look amazing! Car had a bottom end failure after what i was told is a relatively recent engine rebuild. Got cracking straight on and stripped the sump off, And found number 1 Rod had literally just span its bearing. Light damage to the crank so i had 3 options. Buy a set of shells, Give the current engine a quick rebuild and hope for the best, Buy a high mileage thrashed 4EFTE And pray its a good one. Or buy a lovely low mileage 2000 Corolla 4EFE that i had seen running, complete with knock sensor etc like EFTEs and swap ancillaries, head, etc etc. Obviously i picked option 3... So here we go, Few photos of the build up, Sadly missed a fair few as i only had 1 day to do it! (Worked out about 11 hours work start to finish) Yes its on a skip wagon lol As it started Engine out 2 lumps side by side Head off the EFE & EFTE, Photo shown is EFE With block cleaned up and pistons cleaned. Athena 1.4MM Headgasket fitted Head cleaned up new Exedy clutch fitted New engine in and part finished bay New engine ready for test run Started up first time (Albeit on an N/A Manifold) And runs perfect apart from high idle... Need to find a turbo setup, and decide what im going for on this one! TF035 On a WEPR Mani mabye... Response machine. Current spec list is here anyway. 1994 GT Turbo Stripped rear Sabelt drivers harness Some JDM Turbo timer Razo gearknob Cusco rear strut brace ZEP C Pillar bar PI springs on Gas shocks Full Japspeed?? exhaust Low mileage 4EFE With 4EFTE Rebuilt head, Athena 1.4mm headgasket, Timing belt kit, Bolts etc and EFTE Bits swapped over. Twin core alloy rad with fan and shroud Blue radiator hoses Thats it for now until i find a turbo kit, But i will also add i have a set of SCAT 4e rods on the way to me, And i also found my spare 5E Block in the shed, So things could get interesting Few little photos of it after a quick sponge over, N/S/R Camber is off as the bloody wheel was finger tight when i had a look! Thanks Toff

Thanks Steve. Few updates on this and finally some photos. It went from bog stock (No photos unfortunately) To this spec in a few days. Impressed by the car actually and feels quite nippy, Interesting to drive one again, which may have swayed my recent purchase... Corolla Inlet manifold K&N Induction kit RSR Springs on KYB Excel G shocks Rota GT3s HKS Silent HiPower Glanza exhaust (Not so fecking silent mind) Few photos of this, It needed a clean mind! Sadly it will be for sale shortly as i may have once again gone Turbo, and bought an EP82 GT Turbo! Toff -
That's stunning. Will have to add an r32 to my ccollection at some point!

How's the TF035 going kieran? -
Hahaha you never know ;) 2 in the space of a month i couldnt resist!

All 4E Cranks are interchangeable, Some may be marked differently, ET I have seen on facelift glanza cranks, AFAIK There is no strength difference, no difference in throw etc. Same in the 5efe and 5efhe, some come with a 3e marked crank, some come with 5e marks. If it was me i would use a low mileage 4efe and build a forged lump. there identical really, Pistons are higher compression in an N/A, Valve springs are thicker in an FTE. Build a 4efe with forged bits and uprated springs your onto a winner!

You can buy the wide Insulation tape, thats quite good and looks smooth

Just wondering if anybody knows if SR Clocks will fit into my 98Spec N/A, without swapping pins etc round? i know the guides say you have to swap them round but being a facelift it has a different setup anyway? Thanks
-
Ahhhh wider is no good really then is it :/ And i only have this choice really or I would! I have a 5e crankshaft but it needs 0.75 bearings, Which I'm unsure off!
-
Has anybody ever considered using a micra exhaust manifold? I know people use 4efte turbo manifolds on micras and they require a tiny bit of modding but dimensions are the same... Couple it with a decent exhaust you might be onto something?
-
Just had a quick look myself and found that the Mains are different, Does anyone know if its diameter or width? If its diameter and only by so much surely oversized bearings could solve this?
-
Idea floating in my head today regarding the above engine components... I have these bits sat in my shed doing nothing, So if its possible i will do something with them. I Know a 5EFE Rod is longer than a 4EFE/4EFTE Rod I Also know a 5EFE Crank is longer throw. However what im thinking of in the simplest terms using these parts would just make a DE-Stroked Engine, And the pistons would not reach the correct TDC. So if you wanted to could fit custom pistons, Or custom rods, Or what im thinking off, Decking the top of the block! Main thing that would stop me doing this is the rod journals and main journals though. I know one of them is different and i have a feeling its the mains. Is there a way around this? Or could i just use 5E Rods and bearings on the 4E Crank, With 4E Main bearings? Or would i have to Use 5E Bearings? Or is it not that simple? I know people will say dont bother etc but these bits are surplus. And if its doable, even if i have to do a bit of block machining to fit the crank. Or shoot me down in flames and tell me the crank mains are smaller on the 4e crank so wont fit in the 5e block. (Unless i used oversized bearings? Lol!) What do people think?
-
Why on earth would you want to fit super Hicas? Rear steering would make the car no better on the road, especially if you want 600hp in it. If what you wanted to do was at all feasible it wouldnt be a road car, wouldnt be a 4e/5e engine without stupid work (Ie spuddys,Nos etc?), More likely another tuneable 4pot. Honda,Toyota,Mitsubishi, (List is fucking endless) Even then you would need drag radials to make it useful, and it wouldnt be a starlet anymore. But feel free to go ahead and prove us all wrong... And yeah S2000s use the F20C Unit, Sort of similiar to a K20 But far superior...

Hahaha its okay mate, But yeah the skyline wont be going anywhere thats for certain. Thanks Matt, If im honest i had the money sat for a 32GTR And was still mulling it over. Glad i held off obviously because this thing is special. Thans buddy, And yeah he was some bloke, still fit as a lop at 64 before this happened and only months before was sending me photos of him fitting coilovers to the car! Hello Gainzy mate, Thanks. Should be spectacular when its back, The car as it is in them photos i hadnt touched barring the wheels, Only thing i did. Thanks Steve, there will be plenty more to come he wouldnt have it any other way! Hahaha cheers mate And yes mate i did, Even the Billet VF35 I had made from Liam D Thanks for that mate, He was a legend. GTT was amazing and will be more so when it back, And whats he got? Its a strange expierence, the noise and just the atmosphere is amazing, cant even describe it! Thanks dude, As above he was some guy,. On the Skyline note a few people have wondered why im restoring it or why im changing its lovely looking as it is, Its due to the unfortunate usual Nissan rust problems. At the moment the car has slightly rusty arches (Front & Rear) And a relatively clean underside barring a little bit of damage to the sills. The common strut top problem is only just rearing its head as well. So i had 2 options, 1st being give it a respray, try save the arches and touch up the metalwork and hope rust doesnt return and ignore the engine bay, and also give it a good underseal and leave it be. Or i could do the lot. Remove all panels, Glass, Engine & Box, Interior, Subframes, Suspension components, Literally everything off the car. Everything is being polybushed, all suspension components replaced, subframes Zinc plated and powdercoated, engine stripped down, New manifolds, turbo, intercooler and all ancillaries refurbed, New ECU, And last but not least a full Nismo Z-Tune replica kit, with additional carbon bootlid. There will be no stone on the car left unturned, and i aim to build the best road car, track car, GT car all in one. Essentially my own Nismo Z-Tune in GTT format! Thanks Toff -
Hey up everyone, Been a while since i was on here after breaking my Forged 5E V which im sure people have seen before, (Rob Hartley now owns the shell as his green frankenstein monster lol) In the meantime i bought a cheap Celica T-Sport VVTLI while breaking the glanza which looked like this. After all the caper of stripping the glanza (Still regret it a tad) And buying the celica and fixing it up, I was relatively happy driving about and thinking of what my next project would be.... Next thing i know, my Grandad who had been ill for a couple of months, Took a heavy turn for the worst after being diagnosed with incurable cancer and after a 2 month battle against it he passed away. For 7 years prior to this he owned an absolutely beautiful R34 GTT which we shared a lot of time on. On the last few visits to see him, inbeetween all the laughs and jokes about life, he told me something which still gets me to this day and will continue too for the rest of my life... That the Skyline was mine! Here are a few photos of it after i had hold of it for a few days. The whole point of this thread is about the Little N/A I bought while i left the skyline in the hands of The GTR Shop to restore it, Which left me a few weeks back in this state, (Engine box and interior also removed) Will be back with a bang next year and many many mods. But thats for a different thread... This is the little beasty i will be using up in till then, which i 100% was never modifying and was just transport... Lol we all know this was a lie! and changed within a matter of days. Bought it bog standard last week and have so far fitted Some shocks and springs, Aquired a glanza rear bumper, TTE spoiler, SR Clocks, steering wheel boss and rota circuits. Lovely clean condition with 82,000 Miles, Few little battle scars but nothing im worried about. Will put some photos up tommorow once its light of how it currently stands after fitting the suspension and wheels last night, and giving it a good clean/debadge/dewiper. I couldnt put photos up of how it was, there embarrasing looking on stock steelies and ride height lol! Thanks for looking Toff
