  1. Check you have a good earth on the coil and ignitor. Throughout the many years the bracket which is essentially the earth to the firewall can get shitty and corode. Failing that swap the coil and ignitor for a known working unit. It sounds as if its typical symptoms of that as a coil which give flat spots and missfires at certain rpm points.
  2. If its just a shorter 4th and 5th you would be better off looking for a gear swap rather than a final drive swap. It's not such a good idea to mess with the entire ratio's by swapping out the final drive as this completely changes the powerband of the engine. With a setup which doesn't produce much power and produces power fairly low down the longer final drive (3.7) would be better as it keeps the engine in and around the lower rpm's to help maintain maximum power. Where as if you have like 350bhp, a shorter final drive will be better because you will be using a larger turbo which is more lag
  3. I certainly wouldn't bother with buying new from Toyota, comparing the price/durability at that sort of power isn't worth the money. Be best off going through a few second hand sets at £60 like. What is it thats actually broken on the shaft? It's usually the CV joint that snaps or shears off.
  4. http://www.driveshaftshop.com/import-axles/toyota/toyota-starlet-90-96-ep82-96-99-ep91-600hp-axle-hub-kit You'll probably looking at around £1200 by the time it gets in the country though.
  5. Not worth it, better off just getting them powdercoated
  6. You want a 4.3 or a 4.7 which I believe the TRD one uses.
  7. Here buddy http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showwiki.php?title=Timing+belt+and+water+pump+replacement
  8. Yes you can swap out final drives from other gearboxes although it won't make for nice driving on the motorway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_C_transmission
  9. Yes mate, didn't wanna let them puppies go! Will be going straight in the new shell
  10. They are 4AGE headstuds, TD stock them on tneir website. To fit you need to drill and tap the block to suit the larger size. Also have to have the head drilled out to accept the larger studs. Also some of the casting on the inside of the cylinder head next to the buckets will need ground away to allow you to get a socket on the nut. Sounds like a lot of work but can all be done in a couple of hours.
  11. Picking her up on Thursday evening, will have plenty of pics on Friday
  12. You will need to fit a new belt first mate as if its skipped that amount of teeth you'll probably find the intake and exhsust valves will be open giving no compression. Whack a belt on there and then do a comp test, if that comes back all good just fire her up Dont go removing bits just yet, it will likely be something small.
  13. 100% mate, but it will depend on if the head has been skimmed before and how much has been skimmed. If you've lost compresson on a cylinder either you've dropped a valve head or some piston damage has occured, although tbh mate, if you've slipped that amount of teeth, you will lose compression because the valve opening and closing times will be all over the place in regards to TDC. Bang a new cambelt kit on there dude and set the ignition timing, she should fire up
  14. These engines are non-interferencd so they the valves wont make contact with the pistons if the cambelt snaps.
  15. I personally would swap over to headstuds, they only have stress on the 1 axis rather than 2. What trim of gt30 are you going for? You can go upto like 550bhp on a gt30. Headgasket will vary depending on what management and fuel you are going to be using. Me personally prefers a higher CR engine simply because it creates more power throughout the whole rev range and you don't have to work the turbo so hard or run so much ignition advance. Decide what the car is going to be used for then decide what CR you want, 8.2:1 still yields good results upto like 400-450bhp on pump 99 fuel. If you
  16. I know Jamie, I did say they were hard to find and all of a sudden one pops up. Speaking to my mate tomorrow whos hopefully able to pick up the car on his flatbed Wednesday, will nab some pics then First thing to do is to give her a good clean and see where I need to go from there
  17. Looks standard to me, if they don't have some sort of daughterboard the EEPROM chips can be replaced and usually marked by the tuner as an identification marker. EEPROM chips can be wiped if exposed to intense infared light.
  18. Jeez number 3 looks like it went all the way through to the backing plate. Something must have caused it to wear so quickly? Glad you caught it in time though, hopefully everything will be ok from now on
  19. Battery discharged or alternator not charging?
  20. Do the mk3 reflectors just bond on to this?
  21. Sexy new bride What are those cusco braces? Ones a front brace what are the other two? Never seen them before.
