Its the 5E that makes it with faster spool. Most people don't tend to understand camshaft specifications and choose the wrong ones. It's come up quite a lot recently actually http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/69180-im-after-some-good-cams/ You on a 4E or 5E?
-
No idea mate. Is it the ID meter you got? As I think the ID meter one gives the desired boost level actually in bar, where as the older type SBC gives it as a percentage. Probably start with something around 25-30 with gain at 0, see what boost value you get then and just increase or decrease accordingly.

I hate regrinds, they are a ballache to fit, and unless your pushing 340+bhp they won't really be needed.
-
Yeah thats true. Although if they are good enough to make 294whp on I'm sure they'll last a fair amount of time on a lower spec engine. I agree though, playing it safe will be best in the long run as you'll always have doubts.
-
Hmm I see what your saying, but seems strange how other people have used Wiseco pistons before on stock rods without a problem. I know mate, I agree. Pauter rods for the 5E are stupid amounts compared to the rest. Check these out http://www.maxspeedingrods-store.com/Toyota-5EFE-connecting-rods-4-pieces-CR-TOY-5EFE.htm

No probs. Forgot to add to do test runs in 4th gear. Got to be one of the easiest controllers to setup. Also make sure you have it setup to the correct wastegate system, ie actuator or external, this is in the options somewhere.

It's been done before quite a few times, although I always say if you've gone to the length of replacing the pistons, you may as well just spend an extra few quid and get the rods as well. But that's your own choice and on your own budget. It seems to have worked for many other people, providing the map is good I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Tbh I haven't had my 5E apart yet so I can't really comment, but there must be an oil way to lubricate the little end as the rod does rotate on the pin as the rod reciproctates. Like I said above though, if your going to the length of changing to f

Its based on a percentage. If you do a google search the manual comes up. You first set the boost level, and have the gain at 0. Once you reach your desired boost level, you then adjust the gain, go up slowly until you start to overboost, once you overboost take the gain back down by 2 points.

Am sure I've seen cheap ones on ebay, if its only to last a month or so. True about getting to you though, maybe try a local motorfactors tomorrow? Still £20-£40 is still cheaper than an aftermarket one. I've heard people re-using the Zep gaskets before, but not Athena's.

Found it here buddy http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showthread.php?52987-300whp-Jamaica-style/page13&highlight=300whp+jamaica Go down to post 316 by blakchiney. Says he's using Wiseco forged pistons on stock rods with 294whp and 270 ft/lbs
-
You'll probably be fine, but me being anal probably would buy another gasket. Am sure you can just get an OEM one for like £20 so might as well just use that?
-
Take a read through here http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showthread.php?52987-300whp-Jamaica-style&highlight=300whp+jamaica I got upto page 4 and found nothing so far but I am sure later on in the thread they switched to Wiseco pistons and kept the FHE rods.
-
Mines for a 5E though, and they are more expensive because of the less demand for them. So they were quite expensive
-
Ah I thought you ment it was in bits as going by your thread about forging. You can reuse them but how long they last is another question, suppose it depends how much of a hard time it has. If I had my way I wouldn't even use a headgasket, but its cheaper to replace the gasket than the engine if it goes tits up.
-
Shame I never took a pic of the pistons on the rods
-
Well seeing as your going to need to buy an engine gasket kit to complete the rebuild if putting in stock parts anyway, that will come with a headgasket you can use.
-
Not as much as Carillo They are quite expensive around £520 I think, more expensive than the rest, but I can confirm, Wiseco pistons and Pauter rods fit like a glove and they are beautiful!

overheating issue after rebuild (videos added)

Might sound stupid but is air able to get get to the radiator core? -
I've seen over in threads on TGTT before saying that the Wiseco's fit stock rods. I'm just trawlling through the Jamaican's thread now as I'm sure they switched to forged pistons but kept the FHE rods because of their thickness and strength due to their limited supplies.
-
Yeah I'd probably be inclined to say you've got a synchro problem. Probably worth doing a complete overhaul replacing the forks, synchro rings, bearings and any gears that are chewed up.
-
I think Gaz managed to get a slight bit of wheelspin, but it soon sorted itself out.
-
Agree with this. What Wiseco's have you got as mine are just a push fit and retain using the circlips. They fit with stock rods, but unsure on other aftermarket rods tbh. I doubt they will fit with PEC rods as they are a manufacturer of Wossner, but that said I haven't heard of it before, everyone seems to use Wossner and PEC as a combo, or Wiseco and Scat.

You'll need a 5E conversion flywheel for any good uprated clutches. It's very difficult to find uprated clutches for use with the 5E flywheel.
-
When you say struggle to get gears, do you mean it grinds? It's stiff? Have you checked to make sure you are getting the clutch fully engaged/disengaged when the pedal is pressed?
