Slight misfire @ 2k rpm - I think its misfire?
Ryan_EP82 GT replied to Zeldoz's topic in Ignition & Fueling
The ecu will control the fuelling as long as your boosting below .85bar/12.5psi so don't worry about the air/fuel mixture at these levels or below. Ive no idea why it would run lumpy at 2k but that's my 2ps worth on the fuelling bud. Theres probably enough Starlet specialists around you anyway to get it sorted -
Im not sure if the numbers are direct linked tbh Kate, as in setting it to 8 allows you to run .8bar. if you wanna run .8bar .. get a hks actuator and set it to .8bar..worked dead on for me

No vac leaks Phil and it only idles at 2k when you start it...as the temperature needle rises toward operating. temp, the idle comes down and holds around 1100, where it used to idle and i take it the ICV valve is set to, It just weird because it drives fine if the engines slightly warm, revs hold well, then as soon as the needle hits just under half it drops big time! Even as far as yours Chops at 250 it wobbles about there sometimes, whats actually annoying me is the timing belt scream EVERYTIME this drop happens with the lights on! Surely someone had tht before?

yeah it adds up alrite man ends up a fortune, i priced it before i built it stock just took one lock and turned that idea off lol...Someday!! Update.. Car seems to be running well ..piston rings are bedded in well, did a good 140mile round trip there, i threw £15 petrol in too so that wasnt bad atall Feels amazingggg to be back in GT

Revs dropping when in neutral/clutch in right down to around 600rpm, has conked out a few times. Typical belt squeal the whole time due to having the lights on and drawing more power. Only has this problem when its warm enough or safe enough to drive ... Its strange, ive never encountered it, so it might be something silly like a sensor or something but has anyone got this before? The rev holds fine and strong all just 2k until it starts to warm then gradually revs drop to 1100 as the engine warms up (is this like an auto choke?), until it reaches working temperature where it drops and p

I got it changed today as it was booked for Fri, thanks again mate

Did you fill the reservoir to the brim with fluid first? Is there a method where you keep the nipple closed and pump the pedal 5 times, hold it down to the floor and then you can open the valve and bleed out the air, close the valve and pull the clutch pedal back up from the floor..and repeating the process until you get a proper clutch feel?

ridiculously low oil pressure after rebuild
Ryan_EP82 GT replied to Ryan_EP82 GT's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
And i just have to say because its on my mind but if i havent bedded the rings in through a long run in period would the compression not be low for a while yet anyway? Or are these figures incredibly low even for that? In saying that when the the cyl4 went before the rebuild you could hear it was off a cylinder at 70PSI and now its only at 85-86PSI.. Possibly somethings up with the compression rings there then? -

Thanks for everything til now guys i just need to know where i stand when i phone up? Im gonna phone explain whats going on and ask 1-was the block skimmed before fitting head gasket - it used a big enough bit of water within 20mile 2-was the head torqued down according to the spec sheet I know there wasn't a leak down test done come to think of it as i came at the end of the job, and i seen him torquing the last of the head bolts down. After that we lifted it into the van and took it home. Should he have done a leak down test before giving me it back as a final check? Is the responsib -
ridiculously low oil pressure after rebuild
Ryan_EP82 GT replied to Ryan_EP82 GT's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
Ct9 turned to to about 5 psi and I bought a Toyota full gasket set so I used the steel Toyota hg. Head was 100% skimmed I know for sure, but I can't be 100% about the block I never seen the 2 being put together to find out Russ. -
Thanks lads!!

ridiculously low oil pressure after rebuild
Ryan_EP82 GT replied to Ryan_EP82 GT's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
I definately won't be moving it Russ, its lying locked up until I found what happened for sure. And where I go from here. So I'm basically gonna be asking them did they skim the block, torque the bolts down correctly, and clock the rings proper - is that the only 3 possibilities which would lead to low compression? As I said to Daniel it did lose a good bit of water over the 20mile journey (which it was driven VERY lightly) bringing it home, enough to let the fins at the top of the rad show. -
ridiculously low oil pressure after rebuild
Ryan_EP82 GT replied to Ryan_EP82 GT's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
I did ask for the block to be decked so the hg would fit properly, I'm not totally convinced it was done now to be honest if I'm still having these problems. I left a torque spec sheet up along with new Toyota oem bolts, the guys had all the information there or as much as I knew. The pressure just seems way too low for a new engine, even if it does take a while to build up. I don't know what to do atm, whether to pull the head off now or wait and phone the guy tomorrow and find out what they really did. -
Would someone have an intake manifold bolt, exhaust manifold nut and a wheel nut lying around i can fire them a few quid for?
