my 1 doos the same i never got to the bottom of it new battery and alternator and it still doos it so came to the conclusion that it probly has to do with the idler system we have ( mines deleted ) so could not test further
no need to retorque with our stretch bolts !!!! there not designed to be retorqued first oil has to come out first 100km to get rid of left over particles , then go tru your running in process
no get some rings in your local motor factors 4efe/5efe rings best to do it now then , there cheap to get , if they say no tel them for the corolla 4efe they will do just fine make sure to gap the rings

Vseals so whats the comp on the cylinders ?? maybe rings ? drop a rope in the cilinder so head doesnt have to come off :) ( dont drop the end of the rope in the cilinder ha ha )
