What made you a starlet junky?

Recommended Posts

Come on guys lets hear how you all became a starlet junky.

I got my starlet because my aunt had a saxo 1.4 and my uncle had a Starlet SR, both of them was selling up to get bigger cars.... so i was left test driving both, Saxo's were new at the time, so they were becoming popular little hatches.

But after driving the SR, that won my heart as it was much more nicer to drive.

After 2 years of the SR, i was looking more into the Turbo side of a starlet and went to look for one, so i did and found my little beast hehe.

my sister owned my car before me and even when standard i loved the smooth look of it. then when she got a company car and moved away the poor little beast was left rotting in the back garden for 3 years only driven once or twice a month.

i was made redundant and she had just had a baby so i used some of my redundancy to buy the car off her. that way helping her out with my new baby neice. rather that than buy one off a random.....

since then its been on and up to what the car looks like today and i just simply love the look and power of the little beasts

Basically i've always liked to be different, and not even knowing the Starlet existed i thought it was a kool car to modify seeing as i'd never even seen a modified one, also it was my step dad who told me they're a decent looking car. Really glad i got one now, totally chuffed with it.

Live beside Toyota Garage an always hard a wee horn for the SR then my mate got one a few years back. It was the gear change that sealed the deal for me. If a 86 year old arthritick witch can drive one then surely i could.

Well first of all i wanted to be different, none of my mates had one or even heard of one before!!!!

But one of the main reasons was there was a nice sr driving around my area with 17s and cut out bumper etc and looks really smart. I was almost put off though because i couldnt find aftermarket parts for them.

With a bit more research i lukily found this site and that made my mind up!!!!! :p

So glad i got my baby, i give her such a caning but she has neva let me down!!!!

Dad bought starlet as a runabout as his skyline had spun a shell. (nissan reliabilty :p )

My corsa was giving me hassle after putting the 2L in it, and i needed something reliable to get me to uni and back etc. something a bit better on a 2L corsa on petrol too :o

I got the starlet from him and punted my corsa, plan was to punt starlet and buy another civic until the insurance company tried to bend me over for a civic. hated the starlet, interior gave me the boke and it looked gash. Then out of curiosity i rolled the enkies which i had lying in room alongside it and thought, "fuck it, its getting kept"

:o

lol, funny shit. wylo.

with me id been down the saxo route writing writting off a couple in the wet, before that i had a nova gsi, which was a standard minter and after lowering it could outhandle most things, the chassis was that good :p,

also had a silly fling with an 1800 escort mexico, that was plain shit!

after writing off my last saxo, started to look for something different that no one had, spotted this black starlet in auto trader, four weeks later it was still there depreceating in price, so started having fantasys of a jap import replica of some sort that know one knew a fuck about.

just before this i had just baught my first pc and was onto my way to having a heavy internet addiction :o

and spent hours on the net with the balbefish translator lookin at everythin starlet related and realised that the little known starlet had way way way way more tuning potential then any saxo or corsa could muster,

and after readin a few aussy hot fours articles on how the starlet could be made to handle on rails i was sold, bein able to apreaceat every mod made modding soo adictive

the rest fell into place and im sooo soo glad i baught it and made it what it was up until i wrapped that too :o

now im on my therd and probably final starlet for a good few years until i can aford a seperate play toy

ps sorry for the essay lol

  • 6 months later...

Well I had a jeep as my first wagon... It was da craziest thing people had ever seen. Spents loads on her through Lift kits, Custom A-Bars, Big Wheels, New Spray etc and an old lady fell in love with it and offered me good money for it so I gave in.

Then my bro had this Starlet for drivin up and down to Dublin and was lookin for a bigger car. I addored the Starlet and bought it off him really cheap as he bought a new Lancer. The Starlet was totally standard so I've banging money into it ever since. Haha

Well it starts like this.....

My Dad's always had Toyota's and there was a Toyota Garage at the end of the road we live on.

I was always going down and looking what was on the forecourt and dreaming.

When I learn't to drive I started off with a Rover Mini 30th anniversary edition, then I bought a Metro GTi had it for 3 weeks then rolled it into a field because of some Tw*t.

Then was depressed for a while and drove a crappy mk4 escort, looked at many different cars as I was really not happy with my escort and I noticed this lovely little Black SR on Toyota's forecourt and it was love at first sight

I haven't looked back since

Only thing that annoys me is it cost at least 3 times as much for parts to modify it than any of your run of the mill cars

But I still love

Was just saying this on TGTT actually....

Saw a GT posting 12second quarter miles and raping GT4's at a GT4 challenge day at york about 4 years ago.

Went home did my homework, found out they were only 1331cc!!! thought great -- I wanted something newer though so I had my heart set on a GlanzaV, saw Rubix's about in killie and it made my mind up because it was so cool!!

Was at uni though so couldn't really afford one whilst I was up there -- Saved up some money while I was there and bought one a few months after I graduated!! and Here I am...

I need a permanent job now though... in the aerospace sector! So if anyone can help out an EP fan with some contacts I'd be much obliged!!

Well i looked at getting one a coupla years ago when my GT4 had damn near bankrupted me! Damn they drink super unleaded! But couldn't find one that i liked,so bought an almera GTi as a run round for a bit (good sleeper car, rapid) punted that off in the auction and bought a skyline GTS that was going cheap because it needed registering.Had that a year went to sell it and the twat who came to buy it forgot to shut the bonnet properly, went for the test drive and you can guess what happened at 50mph! £2000 + bill for the damage, roof, bonnet, windscreen and labour !! TPFT insurance. That went on ebay.Got made redundant so went lookin for a car thats cheap to run and insure and found my lil starlet in a dealer in bristol and thats my story. The end.

hi im keiran and im a starlet addict. now that ive got that out the way heres the story......

it all started when all my mates started loving saxos, corsas, astras and such. i didn't like them as they were all to obvious and common.

one day a saw what i believe was a red sr, lowered on white 14s. i had never seen one modded before and thought it looked cool.

i also wanted a jap motor, was after a civic but couldn't track down a 1.3 barlie or marlin model. so i set my heart on a starlet.

when i showed my mates a starlet they all laughed and thought it had no potential. also they dont understand the concept of thinking out of the box. they just follow the crowd for street cred.

buying a starlet is the best decision ive made and it gets way more attention than any of my mates cars, even though i get the feeling they dont like it. (heard a few comments behind my back). also the transformation is unbelievable.

my next car will be a starlet also.

so theres my story hope you liked it.

My starlet addiction started when i was driving my Peugeot 106 Rallye.

I had, had the rallye about 2 years and even though i loved it i was looking for a change. this is when i noticed a black gt driving around where i lived, had never seen one before so i decided to do some research,

when i found out how rare they were and how powerfull they were for a 1.3 (turbo) i really wanted one.

A couple of weeks later my rallye got written off, so with the insurance money from that and a years worth of saving (and driving a rust 1.1 fiesta) i found a good gt which had just been imported so decided to buy it.

even though ive only had it about a month i love the thing. already spent 1k on it with sus and other stuff,

but its well worth it.

awesome cars.

I had an MR2 Turbo as a daily driver, but decided I wanted to take it off the road and do a total rebuild of everything to make it into a real monster, so I needed a second car to run around in while the 2 was off the road.

I remember seeing a white SR in my town a year or so back that had been lowered and had a nice set of white alloys. It really looked the business. Squat but round because of the EP91's curvy front end.

I had to have one...

...guess the rest is history.
