Going to go fit the Nice new painted cam cover now

still no sigh of this gearbox i actually dont think its ever going to come. anyone know how difficult it is to change a gear box seal? its the shaft seal thats gone my neighbour says the box needs splitting and its a big job but my dad reckons its easier than that and you can get it out and replace the seal without splitting it. both have a hell of a lot of years of mechanical knowledge behind them so i dont know what to think.can anyone help me?
