JDMtuning1 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I was just wondering if it was possible to chop standard starlet springs? someone let me no please ;) Quote
JDMtuning1 Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 HAHA! it's my Starlet sr i bought it and somone took the sr springs out of the front and put standard starlet ones in so it looks like it's atempting a wheelie! ;) Quote
shaneyb Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 In all honesty, it is an accident waiting to happen. Springs come up for sale often on here for not a lot of money. Quote
shorty Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 i totaly disagree with that, i have many mates who are mechanics, some work for tuning specialists, I've also spent years tuning/modding cars and I've never ever heard anyone say its anything other than dangerous! why risk your life for a £60 or so set of lowering springs! Quote
jason_l Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Totally agree with Shorty here! Flippin Ghetto to cut the springs down! ;) Quote

Nanglebadger Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 some research into vintage motoring modification or old school hotrods will infact tell you that this can be done, but it has to be done PROPERLY by people who know what they are doing. what do u think they did before shortened springs were available.however, i strongly urge you NOT to do this. as you dont know what you're doing. as stated above, for the sake of £60, its safest to buy springs. i would never recommend anyone to cut them. but as streetracer has already stated, it CAN be done, but it would not be suitable for your SR, it is NOT a practice i would ever recommend for modern day modifying given how cheap parts have become. leave it to those who know what they are doing in the appropriate circles.Phil. adz_sportif_turbo Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 they are specifically set for the car their going on, even lopping a coil will upset the spring rate. i've been in many a car with chopped springs and the ride is hellish!! if you dont mind the bouncy bob then do it, but i would recommend just purchasing some lowering springs for the sake of £80 lol. joel_ep91 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 as phil said it can be done safly in older stuff i know this and witnesed it first hand growing up around classic cars and having a old school mechanic for a father you learn a thing or 2,but in starlets just buy the springs Quote
