scottyb
Is fitting a decat really that hard? had it in at the garage twice to be fitted (i dont have the space or facilities to get under it etc) and the first time they didnt fit it because it needed new gaskets which was fair enough (didnt have them yet) and now its in again to get new tyres and the decat fitted, they said theres too much in the way to get it fitted atm, apparently they'd need it for over two hours, they said something about the clutch cylinder and oil pipes etc are all in the way?am i being completely stupid to think that its just a case of unbolting the heat shields, lambda etc then changing the cat? seems like they're making it a 10x bigger job than it actually is? Hawwy
Not that big of a job as they are making it out to be only should charge you like £10 -15 imo
scottyb
thats what i was thinking, they keep going on about the manifold as well, but surely they wont need to touch that? maybe aside from the heatshields.wish we had proper garages about here to get stuff fitted! scottyb
the car is ready to collect apparently. so ill go get it soon, unfortunately cant use their ramp as its a very small garage and i know they wont let me. may ask at work to see if i can use the small pit (bus depot) but apparently thats not really allowed.ill phone GBR after the holidays and see if they'll do it maybe
StuDoc 72
Its all down to how original your car is condition of bolts etc. If you are still fairly standard then there will be an hour or 2s work. Got to remember these guys dont know starlets inside out the way we do so its all new to them every car is different. I can get my full turbo kit off in 25 min but thats with plenty practise. Not that big of a job as they are making it out to be only should charge you like £10 -15 imoYou must be living in a land of discounts buddy no garage would do it for that. The cheapest garages charge £40 an hour labour. Edited December 17, 2012 by StuDoc
Socks
Sounds like they just cba by the sound of it....Give them a slap takes no more then an hour :/
scottyb
my cars totally standard engine wise apart from a spec 2, ssqv and a hks panel filter. they fitted the exhaust etc for me in around half an hour or so. just seems like they're making it sound like a much harder job than it actually is? one of the guys is into drifting etc so didnt think he'd be a stranger to turbos etc.

StuDoc 72
Its not difficult but should any bolts chew or cross threads youll be in for an interesting day.I was just being realistic. Give it a go tho like everyone says garuntee it takes you longer than an hour tho mate.Just a word of warning.
scottyb
yeah i shall see, it needs a full set of brake pads as well so ill maybe just get it all done one day by myself.
Stefan_s
I changed my whole turbo set up myself with the help.of a mate on my drive and it only took a few hours and I don't have much mechanical experience
Liam_D
Pretty straight forward job on a standard V! mine took around 20 mins to fit.

scottyb
Yep full size rad and ac still. The garage said something about the clutch slave cylinder or something? Theres a lambda still in the decat although im not sure if its alright. Theres also a bolt welded in the decat if that makes any difference? May just take it to gbr after the new year, its a wee bit of a distance to go but they know starlets. Its all beginning to seem like too much hassle now tbh!
aaddzz123
Do it yourself mate! It took me about half an hour to do mine in the snow a few years ago. Everything is easy to get to. Just get the lambda taken out or at least loosened off with oxy ceteline (however its spelt lol) as it was fucking tight on mine lol. All you need is a basic tool set and a bit of strength behind you...... Pussy ;) haha! If you were closer I'd do it for you.
Flaminsam
Dead easy to do. Shouldn't take long to do either. The clutch slave does look like its in the way but you can get round it easily enough with a 3/8" socket set. Also if you don't have access to a gas torch (blue tipped spanner) take your car for a drive then with the exhaust still hot crack off the lambda.
corofin12345
just unbolt the feckin slave cylinder if its in the way.. they really dont know much about cars if they cant even do something as easy as that...id get cracking at it myself if i were you mate.. gain the experience
