Beastmode panda
Who actually does this? And is it safe? I've seen videos and people happily jetwashing their engine bay, but it doesn't seem too appealing to me? It would be good, if it was perfectly safe to do so. As obviously it would do a good job.. But come on, a dripping wet engine bay exposed to all of your wires and shit? So.. Anyone?
pick1
My mate does it on his rs but his engine bay is well tucked and he puts bin liners round dizzy's n all things important etc never tried it myself
Beastmode panda
Interesting, i would like to. But i don't think i'd trust it haha! It would be a wicked idea at the time, then i know for a fact id go set off for a long trip and my car would break down due to water getting in places it shouldn't haha! It's just soooo long cleaning by hand, like the gearbox and shit! NO LONG TING.
jake44
plastic bags and tin foil ;) and if you've got and adjustable pressure lance set it at its lowest and use common sense :L like don't spray at the battery or dizzy or anything and you'll be fine! i do loads of engine bay details and haven't had an issue yet i found a guide somewhere at one point, ill have a hunt for you
Jhandy
Just make sure it don't get anywhere near electrics and intake. Everything else can be washed. We are forever jet washing Diesel engine bays at work to clear all the oil. Or so we don't get covered in crap
Beastmode panda
Yeah my jetwasher is adjustable. That's a pretty good call tbh! Cool man id appreciate it if you could find the guide thing. Obviously not going to be hard lol, but would be nice to see pictures of how others do it first .
steve-gers
Do it with a steam cleaner instead
Jhandy
Or you could just take it to the car wash place and let them do it
daniel_g
I do it all the time on customers cars at work haha. Mostly to clear off oil to find oil leaks. Newer cars bays seem more protected though with plastic covers everywhere. Just leave it running and dont point at anything like ht leads lol.
steve-gers
I have used paint thinners before ina high pressure gun, works very well.
daniel_g
Wouldn't wanna hit the bodywork by accident though haha. I might put that 'gunk' stuff through one at work to do the bay on the GT.
turbo Grant
I use the hot jet was down the self car wash place. Done it on loads of cars at work and a few of mine. I just put plastic bags over every thing. Jet wash it all off remove bags. Good idea to spray every thing in wd40 after. Had a miss fire after I done my Renault 5 bay, took the dizzy off wiped it out and it was fine

Dan_Henderson
I used a steam cleaner on my bay and had excellent results
Matt1878
I like the idea of using a high pressure steam cleaner .... You could get right in there and I'd feel more comfortable using that at close range than a pressure washer
2333ricky
I used power washer, its simple to do and had great results but i also used autoglym engine degreaser would really recommend.
Banbury Glanza
I work for a professional valeting company and we blast the engine bays down (quick blast) then treat with a autoglym degrease and dressing comes up like new.
Beastmode panda
Nice one lads cheers. I would steam clean it for sure, but it means buying a steam cleaner first lol.
Dan_Henderson
You can get the cheap wallpaper strippers that you can put different nozzles on
TurboTobz
I did it on my old glanza got a miss fire from water in with the plugs a jet of compressed air - hey presto
loguey
Did mine when i first got the car, covered over the rocker cover, dizzy, fuse box and battery. High pressure steam cleaner, had someone sit in the car and hold the revs at about 2.5k just in case...
H_D
High pressure steam cleaner would be a safer option, I just dont like the idea of jet washing my engine bay,
Beastmode panda
I just dont like the idea of jet washing my engine bay, Exactly the same with me! I just know for the sake of a clean engine bay I WILL have problems :/..
H_D
a bit of elbow grease and compressed air can also give good results.Once its been cleaned just spend 1-2 hours a month keeping it tidy. Edited February 21, 2013 by H_D
