Turbo Goose Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I was looking at almera gtis for a track car, a friend has one in town, fairly quick and well built, not sure on the handling. bought a saxo vts in the end. Cant go wrong, altho its French and disliked, they engines can be picked up for about 100 quid so doesnt matter if it goes pop Quote
Hou Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=117811&hl= THIS!!! Other things you will have to consider: Insuring & Taxing it or towing it there Repair costs Availability of mods/track tyres Also have a look on pistonheads for cars that are already modified for the track http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/honda/civic/modified-honda-civic-esi-vtec/1197779 http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/volkswagen/golf-gti-mk3-mk4/volkswagen-golf-mk-3-gti-1996-track-day-car/1181012 I had a road worthy Celica that was great fun on track for under £600 (that included the springs, brakes, rear brace and buying the car) Quote

loguey Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 A mate of mine had a 172 and a 182 in both shapes. Reallly really good fun, but i would also suggest some hatchback civic or an mx5 Quote
Addymk2 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) Satria GTiLeggy IS200/Altezza. Lot of weight to loose!Just a couple of alternatives to what's been statedANYTHING cheap with a decent lump. Preferably with a multi link suspension set up on the rear. At the end of the day your going to be stripping it to billy basics so even an oddball can be a weapon when it weighs as much as a gnats ball bag. Edited March 27, 2013 by Addymk2 Quote
Johnboy GT Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Seat Ibiza Cupra? Also agree with a redtop Corsa B Fiesta with a 2.0 blacktop? They can be had cheap John Quote
Addymk2 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Redtop Corsas are cheap, bulletproof and pretty quick.Alfa 145 Cloverleaf? As quick as a red top corsa only they sound nicer :-PAslong as the cambelts done they're fine! And you don't use an oiled air filter. Quote
funny onion Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Sam had an Almera gti. Was rapid for an na haha loads of fun. Was stripped out to bare metal in the back ad stupidly low. The sr20 is a good engine and not that hard to turbo either. Quote
rmsnoel Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 1.8 or 2.0 astra G. Parts are cheap, upgrades are bolt on from the gsi lots of weight can be dumped and whiteline do a rear antiroll bar. Raise the rev limit for 90quid and away u go Quote
