Smithy's Glanza - The long road ahead..

Recommended Posts

Howdy gang! I had a Glanza a few years ago but couldn't afford to keep it, but luckily it ended up in the hands of our own Liam D (small world eh?)

Fast forward, I can actually afford one now, didn't search long, just wanted a clean, near-standard Glanza V - found this for sale:

Went to view it and left a deposit, sorted insurance and all that stuff, and picked it up last weekend.

Home safe & sound:

So the only mods it has so far, are a Blitz Nur Spec cat-back and a HKS mushroom filter.

The wheels, I'm not sure what make they are, they're 15's, maybe 7J with a mix of 195/50 tyres (Nankang ditch-finders on the fronts!) they've just been refurbed in white though so look pretty nice.

First job was to find the 'factory' turbo timer that was hidden away and switch it off, a bit of searching and I found this tucked away:

So that got turned off, but left wired up.

There's a couple of little fixes that need doing; driver's side wind deflector is coming away at the front, so I've ordered some Tiger Seal for that, and the window rubber has a gap in it, so a replacement is being sourced from a breaking car.

Next on the priority list is a winter service and detail.

The engine runs sweet as a nut, and the fluids look pretty new and at the right levels, but as I've no service history or records of any servicing, I'm doing the basics again myself just for peace of mind.

So today, all this arrived:

Think that's it so far, I've got loads of plans for it, but this is just the little bits I've done so far..

Just waiting for a decent spot of weather now to crack on with the winter prep.

I've ordered some nicer number plates too - slightly smaller front, no banding.

Comments welcome,

Cheers, Chris.

Looks super clean man :) as said in another thread be careful with that tiger seal ( especially with white car ) because once it's on the car it doesn't come off ! So use sparingly little by little have a damp cloth ready to wipe any away :)

Ohh and wear latex gloves to save the hands lol

Haha, cheers - yeah I will do man, I've used some similar stuff on an old car, it bloody stinks..

I'll just do a row of tiny dots along the where it sits and tape it in place until it's dry.

Just hope for a bloody dry weekend now, at least 1 day, cause it's been constant rain all week

Cheers man, and you're welcome haha.

Got loads of ideas in my head but it's gonna be a long term build.

I'm deliberating whether or not to start building on power with the CT9 or just look ahead to an upgraded turbo and the parts needed for that.

But aside from the engine I think Meister coilovers, WMS big brakes, as many chassis and handling parts as I can get my hands on.. Stripped rear with carpeted false floor, may or may not run a lightweight audio setup... Engine noise or not, I need my music.. Full spectrum of gauges etc. Fixed bucket seats, no idea which ones yet, I love Recaro Pole Position's though..

For wheels I really fancy some 16x7 Speedlines in white :D

I'm surprised by how economical it's been! Seems like the same gear ratios as the Polo it replaced as my commuter, and at motorway speeds, 50/70mph it's using about the same amount of fuel.

It goes down a bit quicker if I need to teach a 1-series BMW not to tailgate me, but still.... :p

Started some cleaning today, removed my tatty old plates to clean behind:

Riffy!!

Nice new plates, went for a 13x7 rear, and a 12x6 front:

Fixed mt wind deflector, it had just unclipped, so didn't need any new adhesive, but this rubber runner had started coming away at the front, so I applied some Tiger Seal underneath, taped it to hold it down and cure:

So, jacked the car up in stands and took the wheels off, got my mate to clean and seal those off the car, while I clean the arches (very thoroughly!) and underside / sills with APC, dried it all off and sealed it with this wax, safe and ready for the winter:

Hopefully the weather will hold off again tomorrow so I can make a start with properly cleaning the rest.

Only minor updates so far.

Managed to detail it a few weeks ago, washed, de-tar, de-iron and a quick all-in-one on the paint, as I haven't had time yet to clay and machine polish it. Some pics:

Iron removal (lots!), that's not rust in the second pic, it's a bit off a plant cause it was proper windy:

Didn't do a lot after that as I've been really busy, the battery completely died so I replaced that recently and fired her back up, just been taking it on the evenings for quick blasts :)

Been changing the bulbs. I ordered 4 of those 'xenon look' LED sidelight / number plate bulbs, which are rubbish, so I'm now waiting for two pairs of 9-SMD ones, should be much better!

Ordered some Silvatecs for the front, and last night fitted my Osram Nightbreakers, which I'm impressed with!

Much better, can't moan for £12!

Big plans for the new year :)

eBay, can't remember the seller but they were about £12 for the pair :)

Yeah they are a really crisp white, exactly what I was after.

I wouldn't say they're 'brighter' than stock bulbs, but then they are only the same power, but the whiter light does make the view somewhat clearer, and of course they look much nicer on the car.
