Zeldoz Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 As title says lose the intake tube and filterProsAndCons Put meshing over it.PRO: CHATTER CONS: Argueably can reduce turbo life. But, Its marginal. Quote
Mikeyallgood85 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I've had mine meshed and with all the bad weather I had dirty water getting in the turbo witch has blown the seals! Trust me use a filter until at least summer else you'll be rebuilding your turbo every two months Quote

Trust me use a filter until at least summer else you'll be rebuilding your turbo every two months Had mine meshed for 4 nearly 5 months. Without a issue (touch wood) I also know a friend with a EVO who has an open meshed turbo for over 2 years, mental scoops in the bonnet and still no issues. You can't put blowing the turbo seals down to water ingression.. Might of just came to the end of its life? Quote
akyakapotter Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 had my td04 meshed for about 2 years now no problems even in this crap weather is fine Quote
lee0100 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 mesh ftw just dont boost alot in bad weather Quote
Gainzy Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 If you don't want any crap getting into the turbo use a filter Quote
daniel_g Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Just dont drive near beaches haha.I used mesh on a TD04 and kept a HKS mushroom filter kit in the boot to fire on if need be Quote
Scottyboy Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 It's been left open for a week or 2 then decided I'll put the filter on now it's back off sounds so much better with turbo chatter like and some people shit there selfs when you let it chatter down the road haha Quote
funny onion Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Over a year without mesh or filter with no problems with the turbo at all. Quote
5T4R7ET N/A Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I would advise a filter, as you can see how dirty they can get only after a few thousand miles. It's not just the case of the turbo fins being damaged, that dirt or damaged fin can potentially end up going in the engine. You still get chatter with a filter relocation kit, so i don't see the pros of mesh.Apexi filter are the best in my opinion Quote

Scottyboy Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Anyone know why my boost doesn't kick in till 3.5-4k or is this normal as I can't remember it being that high before lol Quote
maddox710 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I didnt even bother with mesh on my td04 setup, even for a year I had no bother Quote
Jamie_VF22 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) Dont run one either and I've had no issues at all Edited February 21, 2014 by Jamie_VF22 Quote

daniel_g Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Those of you with tuner built starlets / engines, does this void warranty or anything like that ? Quote
Jamie_VF22 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) Those of you with tuner built starlets / engines, does this void warranty or anything like that ? I got fully warranty with mine at TD mine is but mine is a top mount kit Edited February 21, 2014 by Jamie_VF22 Quote
daniel_g Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Ahh cool, just wondered what tuners thought about it Quote
Liam_D Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Mines been open for a year and a bit now, driven in heavy downpours and snow and even the occasional huge puddle turbos been perfect and still is. Quote
Azz Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Those of you with tuner built starlets / engines, does this void warranty or anything like that ?Nope, racetech even changed the mesh from Ali to stainless as it's much stronger Quote

corofin12345 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 dont bother.... can cause alot of problems... the only time a meshed turbo works is on a warm day and warm days are few and far in between and besides that, its not the water uve to worry about.. its all the dust the turbo inhales.. Bussey Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Just out of curiosity where does everybody source there mesh from? Frying pan spit guards? Quote
