Calum122
Wow dude not having much luck with this car are you.I know that the original engine looks bad, but you have that welded back together mate. I'd never buy a used engine and expect it to work. It is well worth your time just having yours rebuilt. Then at least you know for a fact it's a brand new engine. You don't even have to go forged mate. And you seem pretty knowledgeable so with the engine out you could drop that off at a garage and say rebuild it and it would have been cheaper than 900 quid.PayPal is really good and easy to get money back from them. Keep at it and if you're having more problems with dodgy engines, then seriously go and have one of them rebuilt. So long as you have the metal chunks that flew off you could have a specialist weld it back together.

There are hundreds of bare blocks to get hold of and to weld it back up you either have to be mad or desperate
daniel_g
The blocks are cast anyway.
Calum122
Yeah there are plenty now. But one day there won't be. It always seems like people forget that they won't ever make these again. When all else fails you can patch metal back up. Edited December 8, 2014 by Calum122

Lukee
got the front end all back on last night, and wired up the fogs as the other guy couldnt be bothered to change the plugs from mk 1 connectors to mk 2 connectors. made a light refurb to the bumper as most of its paint was missing and my brother kindly gave me a boost guage that actually WORKS and lights up so happy days. still a bit more to do till its on the road (plus still waiting for logbook)

Lukee
okay so ran it up for a good hour , made it nice and hot to make sure it ran okay etc. turns out the temp guage doesnt go above halfway and the fan decided to break... so there was alot of steam and mess. you can guess what happened. i have now wired the fan to a switch and all works fine. got a few things to do before logbook.Turbo timer- only stays on when ignition as been on then off, never works after car has been running. so have no idea whats wrong with it. it only works sometimes after ignition has been on too! but its always lit up and looks functioning no matter what just doesnt work properly.passenger window - as soon as you turn ignition on the passenger window will go down about an inch then stop, and never goes up so getting new parts somewhen this week
Danz_ep95
Looking good matey love a mk1
fiddlersport
nice to hear its finally running with only a few hic-ups, Maybe better to remove the turbo timer ?
gtturbo94
ya i say remove the turbo timer kinda pointless things really yes handy for cooling the turbo but were hardly ragging the turbo the whole time even cruising in a housing estate and parking up is cooling it and most alarms wont set if the engines still running unless u wire alarm with the timer hope you have better luck in the new year with her
