stock td04 is just to small for a 5e same as ct9 is to smal for the 4efte tdo4 will drop of top end limiter tdo5 will pull past the rev limiter

i get what you mean 5e colin,,,,but from what i observed, the td04/5e combination is very nice for an everyday car...it has a lot of low/mid range...and tails off around 6000/6500rpm which is not so bad if you have stock rev limiter

and when i say tails off...the boost drop from the higher setting to about 14/15psi i suppose due to the exhaust housing and turbine wheel

but still decent turbo for a street 5e on a budget

I've been told from a few tuners that a vf35 on a 5e won't get passed 330bhp and on the leaderboard the fastest vf35 is 335bhp.

Don't get too strung up on numbers :thumbsup: If that's what you're after you're in the wrong game.

This was my old 5e runing a rebuilt vf35 on a dta s80. the mapping was never finished and there was still more left in it. on the dyno day my boost controller settings were playing up i cant remember why.


I have another for 324bhp on another dyno but i it did read a bit high that one.

It was on boost all time, no lag just flat out in 5th all the time with the short ep85 gears.

the vf35 is maybe good for about 300/325bhp at 1.5 bar ...which as said before is plenty on a 900kg car


its close to the gt28 disco potato in performance...which will also be around the same 300/325bhp area


also, on a 5e a td05/vf35/gt28 should not be a laggy turbo...if it is, then something is not so right or maybe very low compression build.....these sized turbos should begin spooling around 3000rpm and be at 1.5bar at 4500/5000rpm with a decent tune, engine build and gas...and pull to stock redline


same thing with the td05..vf22, etc..........all around the same bhp


there will always be the odd set up which may make a little more



if you are hell bent on 350/400bhp i'd suggest maybe the gt30, td05/6 hybrid, etc... as i'm not sure if the gt2871 would get you to 400bhp


with those bigger turbos, you may see an increase in lag

was this on a 4wd dyno or did you run the system disconnected?

Those graphs are from tuning developments on their 4wd dyno dynamics system. Before that your right I ran it 2wd on the other dyno.

Can a vf35 go passed 1.5bar and be safe?

Will be out of its efficiency area, could probably go 1.6 but no more than that I'd say.

That's why the Garrett's are better in that respect, they love big boost pressures.

i've done a lot of research on vf and td turbos over the years now....seems 1.5bar is the "recommended" max on the vf35


However,,,and caution is advised here...a few sub owners have ran 1.6 - 1.7 bar ...i suppose it will only spike there and bleed back off...maybe give that little extra torque/hp in the mid range



i'm not too sure if there will be a difference in the impact of 1.6/1.7 bar on a turbo (vf35 or any other) on a 2000cc vs a 4e/5e



i always figured absolute boost pressure is boost pressure regardless ....however, maybe on a bigger engine (2000cc sub in this case) the turbo is being worked harder at the same relative boost pressures on a 4e/5e???...i dont know....maybe someone here with that type of knowledge could chime in

Definitely laggier than stock but making good power.

Regarding the turbo choices

Same dyno same day my gt2860rs is very similar to a td04 for lag

(Both running the same cams)

Only difference is that the td04 is making 300@1.5bar and the gt2860rs is making 370@1.5bar

That's nice power I've got everything to go on my car I just need book it in for a forge I'm just asking about cams cause that will be my next step

Sorry forgot to ask is that the max boost on a gt28 60 rs on these engines?

based on reading about on sr20 forums i would say 1.5bar

but due to the relatively short duration it will see those levels of boost on a 4e/5e compared to an sr20det i would say pushing towards 2bar

im currently running 1.6ish bar but will need scaled back down the gears to insure grip is still there.

It's abit of a mis mash of bits ankers

WEPR manifold re trimmed and welded to suit v band

Zisco downpipe re cut and welded to suit v band

Tial v band housing

Bottom mounted

Stock bottle neck (found on all direct fit aftermarket exhaust) removed

just a cautionary note here for members, especially those who are not so familiar with dynos and see members projects and dyno results



be very careful in comparing dyno numbers...it's really not that simple, they are a lot of variables to consider including the dyno settings, tuners/tuning equipment ability, pump gas quality in different areas, climate, etc...even if assuming relatively similar builds



we have a very wide cross section of people on this forum from very different regions....please don't take dyno numbers as the gospel....they will vary significantly across regions and even within the same area in different tuning shops....so one member's 200whp maybe another member's 250whp with the same or very similar set up.....this is how a lot of confusion starts



i'd give a few examples...i quickly searched the leader board and see td05/vf35/gt28 can make about 300-360bhp and some td04/td04 hybrids making 250-310bhp on average using pump gas..........



while sometimes other members struggle to make 300bhp and 250bhp respectively with the same turbos using similar set ups



where i'm from a td05/gt28rs/vf35/30/28/34 (sized turbo) will net you around 225-250whp on pump gas/meth mix or race gas (maybe around 180-200whp on straight pump gas)........td04/td04 hybrid will net you around 185-210whp on pump/meth or race gas (maybe 160-180whp on straight pump).........because the dyno reportedly reads low, very hot climate, our pump gas quality is reportedly not the best (low octane), etc.....



Please...i'm not saying this to discredit anyone's build/results....i'm just trying to help members keep things in perspective and be open minded


this is why i thought Adamb made a very good point earlier regarding not to get caught up with the numbers
