I would give the Valve clearances a check, not saying they will be out but it doesnt mean they were bang on before you stripped the engine. Was there any head work done? or valves/springs removed? Gary
-
Did you adjust/Check valve clearances atol when rebuilding the engine? Is it a top end tapping noise or is it hard to say, and about filling with oil, i think that only applies to hydraulic tappets as they drain of oil if they sit for a while but once oil gets through them they quiet down. but you a have bucket and shim setup so shouldnt have that problem. Cheers Guys, Not many updates but have been working on it like mad to get the shell painted. Had the car outside to blow all the dust out and finish off the engine bay. Also got the head fully stripped, block stripped apart from the crank and they are both off to the machine shop. As soon as i get the block back ill get it build and turbo kit is all ready to go on. More soon Gary

A corolla manifold would be a good upgrade but not sure on the air filter relocation, the nearside of the engine is a bit tight for a intake pipe without restricting it. Also keeping the whole intake route as cold as possible can be an issue. I relocated my filter to the bumper on my n/a and the loss if power and throttle responce was scary, if I had more time I would have moved the battery etc to route it differently. Regarding the intake manifold, I'm sure the 4efe and 5efe are the same and the 5efhe ACIS manifold is good upgrade but not sure on an n/a. I was going to the bother of a ACIS

Not at the minute mate, although I have been working on it alot I'll update when I have more done. A few nice unique body mods etc going on at the minute Gary

Yeh in my opinion the diameter of exhaust you have is to big fir the engine, I would go with 2'' or 2.25'' and is it your backbox tip that is 4''? If using the standard air box I would route a good cold air feed to the box, and install a good panel filter. A corolla inlet is a good upgrade also. A fresh service and plugs then check ignition timing to check everything is within spec etc to be running at it's best Gary

Where Can I Buy Fast Road Cams For Glanza V 97 Reg?
ToyotaTech15 replied to caddencadden's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
To be honest there isn't that many cams on the Market for the ep's. If your looking for fast road cams, piper or Kent cams can repfrofile your original camshafts fir around the £200 mark but in my opinion I would use old cams for the likes of that as I have seen used camshafts breaking after a repfrofile as they aren't up to the job anymore. The other option is to go billet, these are more reliable if you get good ones, I would recommend cruise ones as speedvision ones have cane back with countless problems lately. Although cruise billet ones can be around £500 they are worth -
Thanks for the feedback Ryan, Glad your happy with the turbo. You know where I am if you need anything else Gary

Great progress so far mate. Ill get oil filters for you tomorow, how many do you want? Ill get them sent tomorow if i get a chance bud Gary
-
Fuck!! thats brutal. Gary
-
Welcome Chris. Where exactly in Scotland are you from? Anywhere near Angus/Dundee? Gary
-
It depends if the oil line is the same size as the old standard one, usually it should be ok but just match up the pipe ends to see if they are the same and try the bolt in the pipe and join it to the oil filter housing to see if it will all seal up And i would recommend a fresh banjo bolt washer which will be available from Toyota if the pipes are the same. Gary

Ok, yeh then a screwdriver or small chisel/punch will have it off, it will more than likely come in little bits but its not very strong Gary
-
What do you mean? You've repaired a leak with it and you will need it off at a later date? Usualy it just goes hard and it can be chipped off with a screw driver or small punch depending on what kind of paste it is. Gary
-
Good to hear you got a start to it mate, I looked in the workshop on the way past but couldnt see it Good luck with it all, and if you need any parts ill be back in work on thursday now. Gary
