  2. No worries Jon. Be sure to let us know how you get on. Joz
  3. Hi mate It sounds like you have Tokico shocks which not many people have on their starlets in the UK. Are they like this? Tokico Front Shocks As far as I know they are not available in the UK (not a UK make) and seem to be import only (Japan and USA) Your best bet if you want to replace it is to find a dealer who sells these (doubtful in the UK) There are only a handful of alternative shocks you can get (bar coilovers and standard shocks) I know you have a small budget but here is where you can get some decent replacements in the UK (so you can see what is available) at the best prices. Click me> Camskill On that website the Konis are one of the best sports shock for the road but are expensive and amount to almost the same as entry level coilovers. Also on that website the KYB Excel G's are a direct gas filled replacement in your price range (non sports & similar to oem and not ideal with lowering springs) Here are some more examples of suspension including coilovers (bit pricier, no offense to TT) Click me> Toy Tuning Chassis With the starlet being an import, a lot of the best tailored sports shocks and coilovers are available from Japan (great with matched lowering springs. There are others but most are discontinued and can only be found second hand from Japan. The majority are very expensive, the most popular and available sports shocks are KYB SR Specials. They can only be imported from Japan or on the Yahoo Japan auctions which can be pricey even for second hand units. Click me> KYB SR Specials So as you can see, replacing or changing to complete sports suspension is not a cheap thing to do. Now lets get back to your problem which is the one busted shock. In all honesty, if you cant find a Tokico dealer or somewhere that does them, I'd go with original replacements from Toyota or the KYB Excel G's as they are the cheapest alternative (Toyota ones are KYB also). Running lowering springs with -40mm or more with standard or standard equivalent shocks is not ideal as they are not ideally matched to each other, this means there is a chance they can burst at anytime especially on -60mm! So if you must run the car lowered on standard shocks its at your own risk, it would be better to go for sports shocks in the long run. I hope you can see where Im coming from but am aware you are after a cheap solution. I'd replace both fronts or both rears (depending on which one has gone) so that they are both the same. If you cannot afford it now, wait until you can. It wont be overly expensive. It is all a bit of a headache but welcome to the world of modding. Anything else on your mind, we are all here to help. Hope this helps and gets you up to scratch. Regards Joz
  4. You sneaky badgers lol!! Never seen this coming but it can only mean a good thing. She looks a real nice example. Looking forward to seeing this Mark. You need a new name now Mr Pandamonium. Talk soon Joz
  5. Damn that backbox looks familiar Its great to finally see the transformation Phil dude. Really looking unique which is always a good thing. Lots of nice touches that I bet you are really pleased with. Hope to catch up soon with UKSCNI. Kudos Joz

  8. Nice work all round Id. Some great additions there. Joz
  9. All those part numbers are in the nifty pictures and part numbers section. In future please search the site before posting up. Thanks Joz
  10. I went for the tune up with the 5EFHE engine Matt. I understand there would be some difference but I believe its the closest anyone has got to discovering the afr ratios for that particular combination (4efe ecu and 5e engine) in the UK. Looking forward to your reply mate. Joz
  11. Surprising as it may be I don't think anyone that I know of has tested their 5EFE converted EP91 for AFR on the 4EFE ecu. Yes I may be running more volume and air capacity with my engine but the general state of tune is still the same. I was at my tuners last week and we took the starlet for a run with the 4EFE ecu. I cant give you the exact air/fuel ratio however it started to get very lean from mid range to top end revs. We used wideband with AFR display and emanage ultimate. What Im trying to say is yes the 4EFE ecu will run the 5EFE but it is far from ideal, although both engines are 98% similar they do have different compression ratios and other small details which would make them run different apart from the obvious displacement increase. Don't assume that everything will be just fine because it is obvious that the 4EFE ecu wont fuel the 5EFE 'perfectly'. Instead of compensating with more fuel, its seems to retard the fuel to be on the safe side, this is exactly what is happening with mine. I'm no engine mapper/tuner but I can tell you it certainly wasnt running to its full potential. I understand you are trying to get concrete answers but to be honest I would not make such hard work about it. It is basically a plug and play engine. Seeing as you have easy access to this engine you have nothing to lose from trying it out. What car is it from exactly because over here we work with UK 5EFE from Toyota Paseos, so the one you have there may be a variation which is something we have no experience in besides the import 5EFHEs from Cynos and Sera. As for your queries about retaining A/C (via pm), its something that we cannot help you with as our UK ep91 do not come with it as standard. We just got the hot and cold heater. However Im sure someone with more logic can explain that one. Tuning is all about discovering for yourself what can be done, there are usually so many different variables as you have read that there is no right answer for it. Don't expect a world of difference but the conversion will make the EP into a more drivable car for everyday situations. Apologies if I could not be more exact with answering your specific questions however all I did was buy a full UK 5EFE, booked it into my mechanic to fit, and voila, everything was plug and play besides one or two sensors and retaining the 4EFE throttlebody it worked a treat. All other fine tuning is up to you. I sincerely hope that you can get this sorted as it would be waste not to try that engine out. Any of those other queries you sent me feel free to post them up, as there are others who may be able to give you some advice, especially on the air con being retained with the use of a different ecu etc. You seem to have the resources available to complete this conversion so I would definately look into it. Regards Joz
  12. @Jaystar - Won't be too long until my visit dude, had no idea you were so near Kirky, would be rude not to visit. @Mitch - Thanks for your comments mate. What I've done is used the top half of a JDM 5EFHE from a Toyota Sera which includes the head which has been port and polished and valve cut, this head includes the beneficial 5EFHE higher lift cams and from the bottom half of the 5EHFE I've taken and used its slightly higher compression pistons and stronger rods. I've used my original 5EFE bottom end which was mint upon disassembly. I've also used stronger valve springs to reduce valve float at higher revs. The 5EFHE from the Sera originally made 110bhp and thats using a 5EFHE ecu and higher octane jap fuel. It revs to 7200rpm as standard and makes maximum power @6400rpm which is beyond what the 4EFE ecu is set for @6200rpm. The engine will be tuned by emanage ultimate next week so that everything I have done will work to its potential as from the test mapping, everything is running lean on the 4EFE ecu up top which is safe but far from ideal as quite a bit of potential power is lost. By late next week I should be running proper air/fuel ratios and also have a higher rev limit of 7500rpm and launch control. Im still taking it to be RR'd and also fine tune it whilst Im there, as recommended by my tuner. After that, once she is running properly, I can work on the itbs. At the moment Im using a hotshot 4-1 exhaust mani and the corolla tubular inlet mani. You'd be suprised how much your engine will benefit from a proper tune especially when bolting on mods throughout the years like myself. For the engine to rev more easily I'm using an aftermarket lightened flywheel and underdrive crank pulley. To put more power to the wheels Im also using TRD engine mounts and a section engine damper as well as a QUAIFE lsd. For response Im using a stage 2 exedy racing clutch. As you may have seen the suspension is totally sorted bar it being very hard and stiff. I may choose something with more adjustability a little later. All in all, this is my quest to have my n/a ready for some gruelling track days so that she has a purpose and to give me more enjoyment. On the public road this cannot be achieved. I will keep you all updated and hopefully she will be in the bodyshop for her makeover after the tuning. Thanks for reading. Joz
  13. All the best for the future Sam mate. You have seriously sorted out a lot of enthusiasts including myself and we cannot thank you enough for all the good times. You'll always be welcome on here mate, we'd accept nothing less. Im sure you'll be back on your feet in no time. Peace Joz
  14. Turn it Anti Clockwise mate. If its not budging its could most likely stuck or cross threaded. Should normally be no problem unscrewing it by hand. Best method is elbow grease Joz
  15. Happy Birthday Al!!! April B'days are for winners! Joz
  16. Thanks Si. At the end of the day bro, its not a race or competition. I just want to get everything sorted so this EP can run at its full potential. Hope you get sorted soon too. Joz
  17. Had the emanage ultimate open tonight to check the jumper settings. They all seem right to me but have asked my tuner to be double sure. Joz
  18. Me too bro! Im using Ultimate not Blue afaik blue doesnt have the launch control feature.
  19. Congrats on the new look bro. A huge step in the styling department for your EP. Has totally transformed your car, far more aggressive. Hope it gives your project renewed enthusiasm. Keep up the nice work. Joz
  20. Threads merged to keep all feedback in one topic.
  21. Project Red EP91 5EFHE Tuning Stage Update Yes you read right from Rebuild Stage > Tuning Stage I took the Red EP to m16chris on tuesday to get a base tune and to make sure the emanage is working properly. It powered up fine but due to being a slight older model it had issues with holding the afr at idle when set by the emanage. The older models are also less compatible with new software features hence the additional adaptors and harnesses. We did a range of tests and sorted a very small wiring issue (bad contact). Launch control works fine. It was obvious that the emanage would need an addition injector adaptor so I will be ordering that soon. I must also check the jumper settings as that may also be the problem (it was originally tuned for a supra!) as the add/trim fuel function may be jump setting related. So it was back on with the 4efe ecu and we took it for a blast down the road with the wideband attached. It was running lean from midrange to top so obviously the 4efe ecu retarding the fuel. I want to get this running right with the emu before moving onto the itbs. Soon as we get this emanage sorted we'll be taking it up for RR and also some fine tuning at the same time. The EP should be running far better than it is and has great potential. Will keep you all updated. Thanks for reading Joz
  22. Im loving the new look and layout, one reason is because I have a screen + resolution wide enough. Can see the mixed feelings but Im sure enzo will be tweaking it all to suit. It has a more 'dark side' feel to it and is pretty compact and streamlined with the main site. As for the extra space on the left Im sure we can make use of it. Yes the gradient isnt long enough but only those with a sharp eye will notice. It should be easily changed. Am also liking life without the banner although we could have some EPs lurking faintly in the background. my 2p Keep up the nice work Geo. Joz
  23. Just let the good times roll :P
  24. Big Congrats Ste man! Now the real test begins. Drive safe and enjoy many good years of motoring bud. Hopefully now everything can really start moving forward for you. Joz
