LOL i wasn't refering to the sand getting lodged into the alloy The Starlet 4EFTE rocker cover is made in several parts. On the underside there is an adittional metal piece that is riveted to the main body. Meaning there is lots of hidden area's for sand to 'hide' that you can't access to clean out. Even with it cleaned out afterwards then sand could still be in there then contaminate the oil and do damage to the engine down the line. Im not saying it will happen but personally for me its too much of a gamble to take. Most rocker cover's are made from one piece so sandblasting is not an issue as it can be cleaned easily and properly afterwards. Having said that though im still getting Adee-ep to paint my rocker cover as his work looks good, just not having mine sand blasted Jason

I would be interested in getting mine done. Only problem i have is that your sandblasting them I was always told never to sandblast rocker covers. If any bits of sand are left inside and it gets into your engine oil then kiss your engine good bye!

*** Update *** Well as i haven't updated this in absolute ages i thought it only fair to add a few words. Work has been very slow on this, in fact its gone backwards its been that slow and parts have actually come off the buggy. My Apexi Turbo timmer turned up recently and after 3 weeks wait i finally got my set up Powerflex Poly Engine mounts. Also another set of michelin racing slicks arived last week and will soon be ordering the rear wheels. Should look so good with the deep dish wheels all round. I have also bought a pair of Gaz adjustable coilovers for the front and these will be turning up any day now. Im converting the whole car to coilovers as the mini suspension setup is basically prehistoric. Will get pictures up when i get them I got the steel delivered which is being used to make the seat mounts. The seats are normally just bolted to the chequer plate floor but i want something a bit stronger so im going to have steel box section underneath to hold the seats more secure. JDModified (previously ToyotaGT) are soon to begin work back on the buggy after they moved premises and have expanded their workshop. I have been talking gearbox's and it looks like the MK1 MR2 box may fit straight onto the Starlet engine. They share the same clutch so in theory should mount straight together without too much hassle but we will soon see. The MR2 box is better suited for the buggy as the gear selector mech is on the other side of the box and is designed for a rear engined car. I have also got a quote to have the buggy shot blasted, sprayed with etch primer and then sprayed bright lime green, and it came to £300 all in. Well happy with that price and im going to be getting it sprayed sooner rather than later. Im going to get the welding done and before i start putting more bits on im going to strip it all down to the chassis and have it sprayed before the year is out Going to get a few more bits done at the same time. Its not any specific green, its just a green that i have chosen from their colour chart and is very similar to Kawasaki Green, just ever so slightly different. I have also have designs i drew up months ago for a adjustable rear wing for the back of the car and as we are getting some steel laser cut at work im adding this to the job so will have that made up and test fitted very soon. Also i got the CAT removed and have already drawn up the flange details in CAD. Im going to get some new stainless steel flanges made up for the exhaust system and look at routing this. Im making 2 systems up. One will be a standard pipework system, full stainless and will be heat wrapped. The second of the 2 will be the same style but will have a screamer pipe coming off it and will be put on the car after IVA I know its not much of an update but felt i should add a few words as this has been left for far too long. Comments always welcome people.......... Jason ;)

Can You Fit A Celica Or Mr2 Gearbox On Starlets?
jason_l replied to emmer's topic in Drivetrain & Transmission
I believe the MK1 MR2 gearbox will fit a starlet engine or so i have been told. However i doubt very much that it will be the MR2 box as there a few differences between that and the starlet one. The BIG difference is that the MR2 box is designed for a rear engined car so the gear linkage system is on the other side of the box. Meaning that the gear linkage would be all custom made. Im currently looking at changing my gearbox to the MR2 version as im building a rear engined kitcar with the 4EFTE engine. As for the Celica box im not too sure? Jason -
Guys, i have been told not to worry about this! The guy that wrote it is talking bollox! I posted this on the buggy forum im a member of and they confirmed that this has been talked about a LOT. Basically the guy looked on the net for 5 minutes and didn't research the topic. He then wrote the article and ahs made alot of people upset! Apparently he is getting confussed with the introduction of the IVA for kitcar builds, a manual that i have begun reading and is HUGE Anyway, for my build i have to prove where my engine has come from with a V5c from the donor car, plus photo's of the car, plus photo's of me taking the engine out etc etc I wouldn't worry about this at all until there is more proof, which im sure nothing will come of Jason

I hope this isn't correct as i have started looking at a new project for the future and wanted to build a Hayabusa engined Austin Healey

It works! and this looks just like me Jason

Second that, something doesn't feel right with the cars. Not too sure what it is but something aint right. Also the graphics are very good but they have a very 'cartoony' look about them. Maybe its just the colours on my TV??

Agreed! If anyone does want to help with photography then i will let them have a passenger ride or two

Cool, no rush mate i still have to build it. Im happy to pay a little extra if we got a Photographer to attend. I am planning on fitting a camera system into the Demon but i don't think it will be up and running by then

We had a very similar problem with my girlfriends yaris (before she wrote it off ). Was still under warranty and they said she needed new water pump seals and this was not part of the warranty. Tried getting her to pay for it. I went down there and kicked off a good un'. Said that if it was still in waranty then they should pay for it. And what is a 3 year old car doing with the seals failing. Don't think they liked me going ape sh!t in front of potential customers so they quickly agreed Sarah is the sort of person that would have just paid for it though, she only mentioned it to me as a passing comment. She's glad she did now as they wanted to charge stupid money for labour for a 49p part! Jason

Be careful with that cheap stuff mate! You get what you pay for and that cheap stuff is just extraction hose that is available from B&Q. I would think that stuff will melt if you get it near a heat soucre. Just my 2 pence worth. Jason

LOL seems a bit pricey Although one of my mates has a GTST that has a GTR engine in it, the spend so far is up to £25k and rissing He had it dyno's a while back and it made 666 bhp at the wheels! EVIL!!!!!!!

LOL you clearly don't know me very well, it WILL be jap or i wont turn up! It will more than likely be the buggy to be honest, it should be running by that point but won't be road legal. Will it be ok to bring a non road legal car. I know most tracks are fine with track cars but the buggy is a bit different. Its not like it has been tested to be road legal then declared sorn. Its been built from scratch and won't be fully tested by the track day! Do you have a contact for the track or know someone who would know Hou? Jason
-
Dam they look good Great idea also! Jason

Defo need camping/accomodation! And im still in, although i don't know if i will be in the buggy Jason

Enzo i also got this email from TGTT, i thought maybe it was just sent out to a few people but obviously it went out to a few more Anyway, i joined both clubs when i started looking for a GT for my beast build and instantly liked the layout of UKSC better. I don't really like the layout on TGTT and find it anoying to navigate through. Everyone seems very friendly here and you all seem to not mind me being here, even though i don't own a starlet and all i ever seem to post about is my buggy build. I don't like the fact that you have to pay on TGTT for basically what you get here for free. I have been meaning to do it for a while now but have yet donated to the cause, tomorrow when i sort out a few things i will donate some money towards the club as i feel its only right. I am a member of several forums and only a paid member on a few key ones, the donate function makes me want to give money more than a paid subscription. Anyway, keep up the good work and don't change a thing!!!!! Jason

Not had any experience with track days in GT's but i have done a few in my lexus and my bro's old supra when he had it. If you don't already have your own helmet then i would suggest buying one, most tracks will loan them out but its usually a good idea to have your own. Don't have to be a stupiddly expensive one but make sure it has all the correct standards. I would also think about a small fire extinguisher unit, i have a small CO2 unit in my boot. More than likely i will never need it but if the worst case happens then it could mean the difference between your car going up in flames or salvaging it! You will have fun in any car, and it doesn't have to be purpose built for track. I have loads of fun in my lexus and its not the quickest car out there, in fact its probably the slowest. Does have under chassis braces/coilovers/edfc/struts so does handle pretty dam well. I have mintex discs and pads and braided brake lines but no stupiddly expensive brake set up. Does me ok and never had any problems yet, touch wood. There is also a saying that i have heard several hundred times before...... 'Add power and you are quicker in a straight line, remove weight and you are quicker in a straight line and on the bends'. Hope this helps mate, Jason
