NEWBIE NEEDS HELP AND SUPPORT FELLOW STARLET LOVERS!
keirz replied to badboy_lesta's topic in EP91 Progress Blogs
welcome, fire some pics up mate. as for the glanza parts. the spoiler and side skirts will fit straight on no problems, however if you want the front end it all has to be done, ie headlights, bonnet and front bumper. cant just change one its all or nothing as all 3 parts are different between the models and cant be mixed and matched. check out a few other ep rides for some inspiration, and i feel with starlets exterier styling less is more. save your money for handaling and braking mods to really get the most of your n/a. turbo time will come eventually but be patient. the n/a is an awsome car, i had one for 2 years before i got the glanza and i still love my n/a to bits. my little bro has it now. any more help needed just ask. keiran -
welcome. n/a = naturally aspirated, in simple terms non turbo mate.

in my opinion mate do the brakes......... 3g 10 groove disks mintex 1144 pads cusco bmcs braided brake lines. you can get that lot for around the 250 mark. you will get the alot for your money and will be a complete brake overhaul. if you really arnt fussed with safty and want to go power then hks actuator and turn it up to 0.8bar trd panal filter decat then strip the bitch out!

did i just read that right??? i would much rather give my pennys to a crack head tramp to buy drugs, seems like a more worthy cause. no offence.
-
ok cool mate. i wasnt doubting your knowledge as i know its far superior to mine on the issue of starlet turbos.
-
forgive me if im being stupid though jay but, i thought the reason its over boosting may due to the fact that its a better performing turbo. but your probely right. hks actuator cant hurt though.
-
some may disagree mate but all filters are pretty much the same, be it expensive or cheap theres not a great deal between them in terms of filtration properties and flow rates. some are obviously more free flowing and filter better but the difference is not massive. so your cheapo filter will prob do the job well enought, but being in the back of the engine bay it will suffer from heat soak. i find what worked best for me was a encased filter, ie carbon bmc or bmc replica kit or failing that an upgraded panal filter, ie trd or k+n. this will ensure that the filter will not suffer from heat soak, which increases intake temps and lowers performance. this kind of filter will give you consistanly good gains. an open filter may work extremly well on a cold day but as soon as the temp warms up it can actually loose you performance. although they do sound cool. ;) im stuck in the same position with my glanza. my initial thoughts was a trd panel filter for consistant performance, but after trail fitting an open filter it sounded immense.

best bet is an hks actuator mate. it can be adjusted to the boost you require then. check out tobys store toy tuning on here.

liking the conversion. always knew it would look sweet in green. really dont like the wheels though sorry mate, the rest is cool.
-
if it doesnt help at least i can say i have an awsome clutch! and can rule that out. but i feel its clutch/flywheel related too.
-
well im waiting on toby to send me my invoice and delivery will be around a week i think. then i gotta beg my cousin to fit it for me! so hopefully i can give you a review soonish mate, just hope it solves the problem.
-
thanks people, i hope all my plans come together too. bad news= brake upgrade is on hold for a while. bummer was looking forward to them. instead im ordering the clutch and lightened flywheel. im gambling on this being the problem so i may as well get it ordered. cuz its giving me a head ache worrying about it!
-
insurance really depends on your age and ncb mate. it can be expensive but there are a few good companies. im not really an expert on things to check but im sure some advice will be along soon.
-
well ive just u2ud toby to order an orc309 with lightened flywheel. might as well go all out and get this anyway, if it doesnt solve the issue il just keep chucking money at it. lol. was gonna check my plugs today but couldnt find the correct socket. gonna just get some new plugs too for the sake of it. its crap having a powerful car that isnt doing its job correctly so i dont mind spending the money on it. the orc will be well more than i need but at least when i decide to go big on power i wont have to change again. and with the fly i should so nice gains in throttle response and accelaration. plus ive heard its an awsome bit of kit.

hmmm not really that extreme. its like at the exact time the turbo starts to spool to full boost the revs fly up with out really any pull and the engine seems likes its screaming. its pissing me right off. theres no other clutch issues on pull off or getting in gear its not riding on gear change. the revs are raising but the speed doesnt seem to reflect all the work the engies putting in. the speeds still raiseing just not quick. my turbo has always spooled loudly, so i dont know if the noise of that is masking the sound of the clutch slipping.

i would suggest red constant live ie, battery (constant power to remember settings when the cars switched off) orange, something that only comes on with the ignition switch. ( as scutch said for the ilumination) black, earth as you know! green, which is the one that picks up the revs need to go to the ignition negative (a shortcut to the ig- can be found in the diagnostics box in the top right and corner of the engine bay) hope that helps a little mate. ps you said it has 5 wires and listed 4!
-
well ive done the tests streetracer and the car is fine from low revs but as soon as the turbo spools up thats when the problem starts to occur. thats why im concerned. gonna check my plugs later on.
-
yeah before when i came on boost it was awsome pull. but now its a none event. i was even struggling to stay with my bro today in his 1.3 civic. feels like hardly any powers being put down but like i say its at full boost so i know its not turbo. its worrying me to the point im getting paranoid about the possibility of piston rings being fucked. im hoping its clutch cuz that sorted easy (expensivly ;) )

right my V seems to be down on power. its a strange one as i cant pin point what the issue is and i dont know what things to check. the car was running a treat before the issues and was pulling very strongly. *car is boosing what it should 0.8 bar with hks actuator *there is no smoke what so ever coming from breathers or exhaust *the engine seems to be running smoothly. no stange noises or rattles. issues ive noticed.... little bit of oil around pcv (which i have now changed) and the breather whistling when i take it off. it kinda feels like the engine is producing all the power it should and the revs are going up pretty quick and sounds very revvy( if that makes sense)..........but it feels like this power isnt going to the wheels and the car is pulling alot less than it used too. dont get me wrong it still feels quick but its not as quick as it was. im thinking it may be drivetrain related, clutch or flywheel. but........ *theres no problem pulling off *no problem gettting in gears *no weird noises from there it just feels like all the engines effort is not getting put on the road. i just need a few suggestions on thinks to check. suggestions as to what components may need replacing that could be causing my problem. if clutch mastor/ slave cylinders where gone how could i check and would these cause clutch slip if they was knackered? this problem has seemed to come on kinda over night. was fine one day, next day the revs seemed to be flying up too fast and now the car is behaving as ive explained. im getting really wound up with this as i dont know what to do. do i get a new uprated clutch, and change all other clutch related components, which may solve it. but on the other hand i will be spending hundreds of pound on something that may not even be the issue. sorry for the essay. any suggestion of my next step. also would a vid help of the speed the revs are flying up in comparrison to speed?

what you need is sticky back paper phil. i did the stencil designs on photoshop then printed them out. then cut them out and stuck them on the rocker cover. can get the paper off ebay. and thats how folks!
-
sweet. where did you get the braided hoses and fasterners under the bonnet from?
-
good stuff what filter you got?
