Nanglebadgers work in progress

Recommended Posts

well i have jacked her up...to find a broken coil, passenger front. fuckin PRICK!

however, i phoned my mechanic, a broken spring wouldnt cause something to spin when u put your foot down....could it be the clutch?? TRD pressure plate and Exedy other bit (excuse my ignorance of technical terms)...the fucker shouldnt be slipping at like 0.5bar.

so this leaves me still with the issue of a clunking sound from the front end and something spinning when under power. clunking could be driveshaft, CV, or tie bar somewhere. and according to my mechanic, something spinning and the car not going anywhere can only be a wheel or the clutch...

WHAT THE F*CK!

so now i need to replace the suspension and i'm going skiin in 3 weeks and have insurance due in february. fuckin prick car is going to be for sale.

Phil.

Take that back

It will all be sorted Phil, don't worry

phil it will all come together in the end, i was fed up of mine at one point but it is now sorted.

the pinning, may be slight oil on the clutch itself when jay put it in, it does happen and that would cause the spinning?! i couldnt imagin the clutch being shagged at 0.5 boost.

the knocking MIGHT be gearbox mount perhaps?

does it knock all the time or just every now and then?

there's a knock when u brake pulling the car forward or back, and I can make it do it by making a full right hand lock - i could be the broken spring, but i dunno.

phoned Geo there as really there aren't that many suspension options for a fair price, looks like if i have to go new, it will be the Meister R boyos, but i aint got the readies for that right now.

car's goin to mechanic's on wednesday, til then i'm goin to have to take it REAL easy!

i bloody hope so Dan mate! i really hope it aint CV or driveshaft.

The suspension is still compressing, mark bounced up and down on the sill, so its safe enough to take to work tomorrow and tuesday, just real handy. and then wednesday it goes to see my mechanic to make certain that the knockin is the spring and nothing else, and to have the clutch tested.

pissed right off, i had budgeted (ish lol) for skiin and insurance, or at least knew they were approaching, but new suspension has knocked me for six a bit, that was not part of the game plan at all!

unfortunatly thats the way it is though bud, unexpected things happen, and they all cost bloody money!!! lol, it should be fine once you have got the spring done, as for the clutch i rekon it is just a little bit of oil on it to cause it to slip.

it will be fine dude, im sure of it

As said the Knocking well probably be the spring buddy, we get this sort of thing in work all the time and knocking is normally the key for spotting a broken spring.

Dont sell her though dude, 2010 will be a better year for the Nanglewagon!! Shes just having a few teething problems dealing with the newly added boost lol.

haha no i didnt really mean it, its just sorely testing my patience is all. nothing is ever straight forward. the FTE has had no teething issues at all really, it seems to be the auxially parts have decided to shit themselves.

a permanent suspension solution would be the Meister Rs from Geo, they seem to be good gear and i know nothing about suspension really.

@Damo - thanks for the offer kind sir, i will bear that in mind dude! thank u very very much!

wednesday wont see anything fixed unless there is something loose under there, but it should provide some defintie answers, which other than a broken spring, is exactly what i dont have right now! definitive answers!

Don't lose the faith now man! Get your ass to page 1 and watch the process! This car has come a loooong ass way since you bought her, you can't just drop it because of a broken spring and a knocking noise.

Keep the faith bro, UKSC is proud to have this amazing motor with us!

If you have some spare time, you should do some research on suspension.

What's your current setup? Lowering springs on standard shocks? What other bits do you have? ARB? Braces?

The car will be alot better to drive with some good suspension, and you'll be able to make the most of the extra power you've now got.

loosing the faith would take alot considering what she went through only a yr and a half ago tbh.

i've just had a decent chat with Mark, my bro, and we've discussed a probable approach for further developments once this suspension and slipping nonsense is 100% settled, and basically it involves spending alot less, easing off the wallet a bit, only making small, select purchases for some time, and basically learning to enjoy the car as it is (or more accurately, how it will be once its sorted and Jay has turned the boost up to 0.85/0.9bar).

i explained it to Mark as...you guys on here see her for how she sits - HRF, Volks, TTE, Blitz, HKS, TRD, Cusco etc etc

whereas, while i also see where she is, i also see what she doesn't have, what i myself consider to be "missing" - in other words, its not missing anything REALLY, but in my mind i think "i dont have a dashtop box, i dont have footwell lights, i dont have the rear sunblind, i dont have 200+bhp, i dont have Wilwood brakes" - and i can't keep thinking like that. yes there will always be a "whats next" approach, but selectively. not just "oh, i want one of them and i get paid this week". rather than spending monies after monies on more bits, i should be focusing on tidying up the smaller issues that have come undone that take away from her in my own mind, the perfect example of which is having weejohn investigate the issues regarding my gauges not lighting up correctly anymore, and getting the oil pressure gauge re-plumbed, and the rev counter re-wired! small things that all come together.

i should learn to enjoy her for how she stands (and will stand shortly with the help of my mechanic, Mark, and Jay).

anyways, personal train of thought aside, tomorrow is off to mechanic's time!

Phil Phil Phil, i feel the same about mine, were i keep saying to myself, right, im not spending anymore on it, im going to enjoy the car, enjoy what i have done with it etc, but it doesnt work mate, EVER!!

I do see were your coming from though mate with regards to laying off the wallet for a while, i think you should enjoy the feel of the turbo side of life for a while and then think about it after.

mine has been off the road for the last 6 months, and its killing me seeing it stuck in the garage all the time, once mines on the road, its staying on the road until the insurance runs out, then il put the 5E in there with everything i want etc..

enjoy it mate, and good luck tomorrow

thanks for the kind words and support as always lads, very much appreciated.

ok, back from the mechanics. firstly, the odd knocking noise - at first he was very puzzled, but he sus'd it out in about 2 minutes, turns out the bolts on the lower ball joint (correct terminology?? end of wishbone, behind brakes) on the drivers side were very very loose, so that was an easy fix! result.

secondly - suspension. we knew it was snapped, so all i wanted was for him to check that it wasn't in danger of bursting the tire, which it isn't. he has also cable tied it up, whether that makes any difference or not even he wasn't 100%, but couldnt make it any worse. so all i gotta do is get something else in there now.

and thirdly - the odd spinning under power. i was CONVINCED it wasn't wheel spin as i was assured i had PLENTY of tred left, turns out i was wrong, shock horror lol! plenty of tred yes, plenty of grip, NO! he took her out a spin and the clutch is totally fine even when warmed up and under pressure from the boosting, but the front tires are lighting up like a christmas tree, even in 4th and 5th gear, which explains the odd grip/no grip - grip/no grip i was getting even in straight lines. so, that is also alot less sinister than i had expected!

i think 2 new front tires are in order, and the suspension will need careful consideration, Geo has warned me against second hand suspension as u never know what kind of life it has had! if it was't for that STUPID pothole in Portavogie it'd be grand, stupid Roads Service fools!

one thing my mechanic did express concern about, as i had already been talkin to him about it, was the utter SHITENESS that are the stock brakes on this car. so he is away to hunt for something a little more....uber, shall we say.

all in all, a much more positive result, on the way there i was SHOUTING at my clutch to hold, turns out the poor bugger was perfectly behaved, it was the tires i needed to shout at!

Well good news at least

What tyres are you running? Must be really poor to be spinning up in 4th and 5th on a pretty much stock FTE and with plenty of life left!!!

Or whats the road conditions like at the moment?

Uniroyal Rainsports mate. the roads are fairly shocking to be fair, and the tires are probably due for replacement anyway, but i was assuming that tread meant grip, silly me lol. they may well be like 4 years old, but they seem in good nick, ah well, simple fix nonetheless.
