Dan507
Japfest, what a day. I still can't get over how hot it was... It was a good day, my first time at donnington and what a track. It's so flowy and smoth can't wait to go there again. As some of you may have seen i was taking it easy for a couple of reason, One of them being noise, The car passed the Static test by quite a margin (94/100DB) but it was the drive by which caught me out. I was black flagged on my second lap - only just past 9am. my car read 100.7 and the limit is 98, I wasn't even going full throttle as i was still learning the course. After my blocking i set out again and just cruised around the track because if i got another black flag my day was done. I still had good fun though even if i was sweating my tits off lol. Pictures: An a Photo from my gopro, The footage isn't really worth editing ans uploading so I'm not bothering. The car Ran well, i'm really impressed with it, the handling is spot on. She did have a small issue though, the clutch. In the afternoon it was really spongy (my be from all the heat) and struggled to select 1st and reverse. Sam (huska) said that its the clutch slave cylinder and that it needs replacing. The car is fine now though. Any more suggestions? I also need to get a quieter exhaust. I'm thinking of replacing the Single resonated decat with a dual resonated one, Race Roots have them on back order at the moment and i don't really fancy forking out over 300 quid on a racing beat one. Dan507
I did Castle Combe on Friday witch was good fun. I Passed the noise test on exactly 100db! so i could flat out at last. first session went well. Intill i caught up with a Subaru WRX on Avon Rise which was going much slower than i though i broke quite hard just on the brow of the hill which ending up with me spinning to the left and onto the grass but somehow the car got grip and span right back onto the track (after tacking out a few cones) and straight off onto the infield. which was quite scary. I managed to rip one of the strut braces off under the car and dent the exhaust system and somehow broke the tail light of it's brackets. Half way though the day i got black flagged for noise the bloke recons i've blown one of the baffles in the exhaust but i put the a silencer in and carried on with my day but only revved 3/4 throttle and missed out the top 2kpm the disc's got so hot that they have warped! so they will be getting replaced and at the end of the day the slave cylinder had gone and it doesn't like going into gear so that will have to be done also. this car likes to keep me on my toes lol. smobey_sutton2
You seem to be a bit unlucky at Castle Combe, spinning out lol. Nice progress mate, the car looks stunning!
Dan507
lol, I will concur it one day!I've Ordered some more parts. Agency power daul res decat It's being fitted Wednesday and is having the 2.5 reducer taken out as my cat back is 3" and the flanges are being replaced for a sleeve for more ground clearance as the Race Roots flanges are massive. Hopefully this should me the car quieter so i can actually drive it properly. I'm also having the slave cylinder and stainless clutch line fitted too. it will be nice to have gears again. This weekend just gone i fitted my Racing Brake vented disc's. Hopefully i wont warp these ones. and next week I'm FINALLY getting mt KAAZ 1.5 way LSD installed. It's been sat around since February. I can't wait it will be like driving a different car!

The Toffinator
Properly coming on this now not often you see a well tuned rx8! What are the standard brakes like on these? Surely they cant be upto track use?
Dan507
What series are you going to be racing this in?No racing yet. That cars up for it but i'm not. Properly coming on this now not often you see a well tuned rx8!What are the standard brakes like on these? Surely they cant be upto track use?thanks man. the standard brake are pretty good. I've got stainless brake lines and Hawk HP+ pads and now the vented discs but i only experienced brake fade on a long stint at doington in the 30'c+ heat. they're powerful enough, I can the the tires to sequel/ABS to kick in at 120mph
TimD
No racing yet. That cars up for it but i'm not. Looks like a proper piece of kit already, go and enjoy it, once you can't physically make the car go any faster worry about increasing horse power. Spend the money you would on a turbo kit on track time and instruction.. Nobody wants to be that guy in the race suit who gets in everybody's way ;)

It was sole destroying. hopefully it's quieter now so i shouldn't have those problems. although it was a good opportunity to put some miles on the engine. Looks very good dude Thanks Buddy. Dan507
I Had my Track day on Friday at Combe. It was a good day out but the car really like to test my patients. I'm still having noise issues. with the Dual resonator the reads 99Db which one decibel lower then before which takes the piss so on full chat it's still too loud. Dave, the sound tester at Combe called me over and gave me some advice. the first thing he did was tap the Racing Root back box which gave a nice hollow sound. "thats you're problem" he said. "it's hollow". No baffling so it's a straight though system. thats why its so fucking loud. I've bought a mid steel back box from Merlin Motorsport, Dave tested it on the car for my by putting the sleeve of the new box inside my current exhaust and the car read 86DB at 4.5k RPM! Much better The Car is still suffering from clutch problems. the biting point is at the very top of the pedal and it's starting to judder and for the icing on the cake, the car doesn't like going in third. Pete popped down and gave me some help and adjusted the clutch peddle with didn't really do alot. I think it's time for the 'box to come off and have a proper look to see whats going on. Thirdly, I've wrapped the new Racing Brake Discs i never bedded them in so the just wrapped. I'm going to get them re-skimmed to try and save them. I'm going to put the car in hibernation over winter. Attack a few things. Put the car on another diet and get the inside sprayed up. Thanks again to Pete for popping down and giving a helping hand
Dan507
Been cracking on with the wiring inside the car. So much has come out! It would be much easier if i could take out the crash bar but due to the cage it won't come out! ... unless i chop it up. Fun times ahead!

I'm leaving that to harden for the week, clean it up and start assembling it back together again. I've bought another diff so i can finally get my Kaaz built up. More photos soon.
