abbott
UpdateFor a while I have been trying to source a greddy remote boost switch for the controller and luckily found one in the us which I purchased and got sent over.Saturday 14th JuneI took my car down to my mates work to do the geo, do a oil change and check over the car ready for tomorrow. Few pictures of the underside of the car where you can see the new exhaust system fitted etcGot home and a gave the car a wash and packed the car up ready.Sunday 15thVery early start at 3am to meet friends to start the travel up to Woodbridge for round 2 of the TSS.On arrival off loaded the car and got ready to get the car sound tested and get the car scrutineerd ALL PASSED fine which I was happy about.Next up was to go and sign on and purchase IOPD licence for 2014 and sticker pack for the rest of 2014 season.Once done the car got stickered up and final checks done ready to go out.Had the drivers briefing and then it was time to go out on the 2.1mile circuit for 2xshow laps of the circuit layout followed by 2x practice laps to get a feel of the circuit. So now the days is spread up with 4 timed laps in the AM, Lunch and 4 timed laps in the PM followed by presentation at the end.Once pitted again I awaited to be called when to start my 1st lap then pitted shortly after this and repeated the processAM SessionLap 1 – 2:36.51Lap 2 – 2:25.57Lap 3 – 2:26.07Lap 4 – 2:24.95Was time for everyone to have a lunch break which was well needed as I was starving by then managed get a couple more pics before getting ready for the afternoonPM sessionLap 5 – 2:30.02Lap 6 – 2:24.91Lap 7 – 2:24.62My final lap came and went out and really pushed my car but unfortunately coming up to forth to last corner I was catching up with the person in front and coming on the final bend he had spun his car and I had to pass him and crossed the finish mark. Got in to the pits and one of the marshals came up and said my lap was void and I would have to go back out and re do my lap which I was gutted I had to do as last lap felt good.So awaited to go back out and had another good crack at it and pushed the car and felt a really solid lap and come in and was happy.Once parked up I packed the car up ready to go home and awaited for the presentation to start.Presentation started and some great times were being set for all the classes. Then they moved on to the B street class which was the class I was in and calling out the winner of the B street class with a time of 2.22.66 James Abbott I did not register first of all but once realised I was over the moon and went up and collect my trophy.Lap 8 – 2.22.66Went home feeling happy and learnt a lot from the days experience and knowing what I need to improve on and alter with myself and the car. Was a real bonus to coming away with winning something as been a real enjoyable day meeting new people and seeing what these days are about.Looking forward to the next round and start prepping and changing bits on the car

abbott
After Toyota sprint series at woodbridge the next round was only 4 weeks away so checks were made on the car ready to hit Blyton Park.20/7/2014traveled up on the Saturday afternoon and got to blyton and met a couple of people one being TimD who bought my brothers Gt which was good to see the car and have a catch up. Shortley after went to our hotel and checked in had a good munch up and had a chilled evening ready for the morning.During the night had some serious rain which floody the car park and flooded a few cars out some being some sprint cars which were staying at the same hotel lucky i was parked on the higher end of the car park. Started the day getting down to a very wet Blyton park at 7am to get the car ready for Scrutineering.Once past i signed on and breifing was done. At this point the track was drying out quite quickley just in time for the 2 siting laps. After these were done the timed runs were started. During the morning 4 runs were done but was not really feeling the track or happy with the driving so while i was on lunch i was thinking were i am Loosing time and were i could improve. After the hours break it was time to start the 5th run and i was lining up and it started to spit and looking like this.So managed to get out to do my run and as i complete the heavens let loose and rained for over an hour and was rained off. No more runs could be done due to lots of sitting water on the track. So the day was over and took 2nd place in the class. After the day the car went home back in the garage for a check over. During the next week i was approached by a good friend of mine who owns a detailing company R and R which I would recommend to anyone. Well he offered to become a sponser for my car and now does the detail work on the car.The next event on the calander was the 9/8/2014 asda charity event which is held at bruntingthorpe which I was invited by the p1 owners club which im a member of to take people out in the car to raise money. There are all types of cars at this event alot of super cars. Each person pays £5 to go out to do 1 lap in the car. I managed to do 24 laps which i was happy with and was not shy with the car only issue was my alternater bolt snaped and killed a belt but thanks to krissy who had a spare bolt and belt i was able to go out on track again that day.Great day out, weather was good and pleased to test the car further and upset a few super cars Hardley any pics of the day but got loads of gopro footage which i will add to this post in a few days.Video to comeAfter coming back from the asda day the car was very dirty.so went straight back to R and R for a wash and stayed there for a week and sitting in the garage next to another mates car/customer time attack subaru legercyMonday came so i was on the phone to toyota to order a new alternator bolt which came next day so fitted that and preped car ready for round 4 of the Toyota sprint series at snetterton on the 100 circuit.Set off early that morning and met a friend who was entering the xclass in his clio and then moved on to meet Vit in his glanza and krissy who desided to give the sprint days a go as i kept pestered him.Got to snetterton at 7:20 and a quick swop over of front wheels and clear the car out and it was time to get Scrutineered and signed on ready for breifing and siting laps. Then shortley after that the timed runs had started which went out a pushed hard straight away and was happy with the progress. On my last run 4th run i had a spin which voided my run. Got in and krissy was out behind me and sadley for him his day ended with him killing his engine.Lunch time it was and time to take a few picturess of the cars etc.Lunch time was over and the runs had started again so lined up ready to go and had a belt quilling so popped the bonnet and checked and it was the alternator belt. So revved the car and noise disappeared so proceeded with my lap and all went well as I came in the pits belt started again. So let her run down and switched it off and jacked her up. Looked at the alternator and saw the bolt I changed still there but noticed the 2x 12mm bolts which holds the alternator bracket on 1 was missing and the other was hanging out and ruined. I had 20minutes before the next run so checked what i had spare with me and Lucky once again i had some spare bolts with me so went on to quickly strip things down and replace with spare bolts and put back together BIG THANKS TO KRISSY AND VIT FOR LENDING A HAND GETTING THIS SORTED.I was a couple minutes late lining up for the 6th run but went out and set my best time yet and completed the rest of my runs setting good times.Once timed runs were finished they allowed us to do some more laps being able to take passangers out which was fun.I then came in and packed the car up ready to go once presentation was done. They read out the results through class order and was pleased i had taken 1st place in my class with the winning time of 1:46.02run 1 - 1:48.79run 2 - 1:47.08run 3 - 1:46.95run 4- voidRun 5 - 1:47.50Run 6 - 1:46.08Run 7 - 1:46.02Run 8 - 1:46.39And picture of 1st and 2nd place cars with vit taking the hard charger trophy alsoSome of the pro pics of the dayWe then hooked krissys car up with a tow rope and our friend with the clio towed him to essex to PEC to work there magic on his engine. After this journey we head home and put the car in the garage. The next day i washed the car and jacked it up removing the front wheels to check over parts but another reason on the way back from snetterton i had a wheel bearing noise so another reason why i desided to strip down while i was at it i removed the alternator and bracket. I decided i would do a refurb on the front end and treat her to some new wheel bearings, ball joints, track rod ends. I also got the bearings pressed out and took these off to the powder coaters and the bolts to the zinc coaters.Pics of the hubs and how the car was leftMonday came and i phoned toyota once again and ordered the alternator bracket bolts and also dropped hubs off to powdercoaters.I also dropped my bolts to krissy to try his guy for zinc coating. Couple of days went by and parts were then ready for collection. Also picked up my antilift kit bits which i had not collected a few months agoI had a delivery of parts that day also of new bearings etc ready to be assembledAlso ordered a light weight alternator pully from fensport which was the last pully i needed so that arrived next day and didnt hang about to get that fitted and get the bracket fitted and alternator back on.Picture of the track rod end differance between oem toyota to pattern pattern partsWhen ordering my pully from fensport one of the organizers of toyota sprint series advised me that im being moved up to pro class. Which i had a long discussion about as we are coming to the end of the season and all what ive achived this year could go to waste on winning the class I was in and the overall points. So now im in pro class i thought i would go and treat myself to some toyo r888 gg tyres which i bought a part worn set to try and one extra advantage going in to pro i can run these. And this is how the car sits at the moment.Further updates/ videos to follow Edited September 5, 2014 by abbott

abbott
Little update just been busy recently and not had much time spent on the car and did not make the 5th round of the toyota sprint series due to not getting car back together in time. After getting my bearings and my hubs back from my friend from being pressed in work could be carried out to refit the hubs, track rod ends and ball joints. After fitting this i took it down to a friend to do my geo for me.The following day i had Paul from Arch Enemy come round and roll and pull out my front wings to give extra clearance for the r888s. Which started cutting out a bit of the arch liner and tabs off the wing. Will get more pics of the finish work. The following week i headed up to castle combe for rally day and see how the car was feeling after replacing the parts.Little pic of it parked up next my mates carThats it for now but this week im preping the car for the final round of the toyota sprint series which is being held at rockingham so hope to get sone good results this weekend and will update after the event Edited November 25, 2014 by abbott

abbott
Last Saturday morning set off early to meet the rest of the group to travel up to Rockingham raceway for the final round of the Toyota Sprint Series. Traveling up we got some rain and when we arrived at rockingham they had heavy rain during the night and the track was very wet.Once unpacked the car its was time to take it to get scrutineerd, sound tested and sign on. After signing on I desided to swope wheels and put the R888s thinking i was a little mad due to it was still damp but had faith that the track was going to dry out.Following this briefing was taken place and the show laps where taken place.Once this all was done 1 practice lap was done and timed laps had started.During the day the track was getting dryer and improving as it went on and bad weather stayed away. 1st time i had used the r888s and very impressed and the differance it made in performance to the car and times were getting quicker as the day went on. Unfortantly not all the runs were finished and came to a stop due to it getting dark.Run 1 - 1:35.08Run 2 - 1:29.92Run 3 - 1:26.20Run 4 - VOIDRun 5 - 1:25.43Run 6 - 1:24.65Run 7 - runs stopped for the dayRun 8 - runs stopped for the dayAfter this it was time to pack cars up and almost time for results. Which went on to me taking 2nd place in B pro.Picture of the rest of the team who enteredfensport GT86 We the left Rockingham and went back to the hotel were everyone was attending for the end of season after party and final results and presentation. The presentation went on to all the class results which i ended up taking 2nd place overall in Bpro with my points and ended up with another trophy which i was chuffed about. PRO PICTURES TO FOLLOW SHORTLEYGood end to the season. For the 1st year of testing the car out with its setup and doing any sort of track work very pleased with the results.Winter is now here and car is off the road on axle stands to be pulled apart in places to check over and improve more ready for 2015

abbott
After snetterton the car was taken off the road for the winter to have a underside refurb and fit a few more chassie mods.1st things was to get the car up on axle stands and get the wheels removed and and take some body parts off to see what its like as previously done a refurb on archs but wanted to do the full underside. This went on to removing parts ready to get started on the underneathOnce all the parts were removed it was time to sheet the car up ready for wire brushing and wire wheeling the underside and treat any rust which wasFound.Unfortunately i did not get many pictures of doing the underside as i was covered in dirt, dust etc. While i was doing bits and pieces i desided it was time to replace the rear beam bushes with poly bushes so burned the old ones out and got the rear beam stripped ready to be powder coated along with all the other parts. While every thing was away at the powder coaters i desided to crack on and get the underside ready for when the stuff was ready.I desided to use this gear as lots of people recommened it and carried out a good few coats.Heres how it cam out looms all put back in place at this point on the front and centre of the car and centre and back of car.Bits back from the powder coatersBits also returned from the zinc coatersI also desided to have the fuel tank blasted and painted Had to buy new rubbers for the take offs on the tank All freshed up.Few other things i ordered and had to sort before it all going back together was the following.New fromt top mounts due to the old ones were knockingNew OEM ball joints and oil filerNew fluidsAntilift kit and soucing new boltsRear beam bushes fittedHad my wedsports refurbed and re coatedThen it was time to put stuff back together and get the car back on the floor and moving.Started with the front endFuel tank and rear endI started filling up jerry cans of vpower to get fuel back in the tank so its ready to be started after all the fluids have been changed, brakes bled etc and got the car taxed. Had quarter of tank of fuel and after priming fuel and oil the car started 1st time and was running. I had made bookings for the 14th march to have the engine checked and the geo done all ready for the 29th for the 1st round of TSS. Well friday the 13th come to get the car ready and take it out to get a a full tank of fuel and take it back to mine for a early start in the morning. Well filled up with fuel and drove it home and put it away in the garage and when getting out the car i could smell fuel and here dripping at this point thought i was screwing as it was 10pm so got under the car and checked all take offs and gave a nip up and still pouring out. Gave it a little while and stopped and gave it all a wipe down and desided to get a friend to give me a hand. removed the fuel cap and started pouring out again and turnes out where ive had it blasted theres a pin hole very unhappy at this point and was going to cancel tomorrows works. My friend showed me a good way to temp seal the tank to get it back to be worked on at my mums. The next morning all made a few calls to toyota, starlet traders and members who were very helpfull but chose to go with the 1st person i tryed big thanks to Socks suppling me a good second hand tank and got it out to me within a couple of days. When it arrived i was worried as there was alot of surface rust on it but gave it over to my painter this time and asked him to work his magic on it and not to blast this one. This how it started and finished with the full underside picsAnother reason why i went for the tank it was mint insideI was then booked in for the 28th for the engine check with Rob at PEC and he was very happy with conpression check and leak down test and inspection which was a good and no douts on anything. Next was going to TDI in thurrock for a geo set up.Unfortantly this didnt go 100% they carried out some minor adjustment on the front but they could not do a full set up due to he rear beam had toe in on the off side and toe out on the near sideWhixh indicated there is somthing wrong with the beam either the beam or the beam has had a hard knock before as apears that chassie it self it ok. As we know starlet beams are not adjustable. Bit of a pain and has been on my mind since but the car has always handled so well in the pass and can not fault so had to continue and get my self ready for the morning for the 1st round of TSS.Sunday come had a nice drive up to snetterton. signed in, got scrutineerd, had briefing and as we started to que up for our siting laps it started to rain and the day just got worse with weather and track got more and more wet unfortantly the day turned in to a wash out. With not the best results i did come away with learning how the car reacts in the wet weather conditions on track and how it performs. So packed the car away and after presentations were done i set off home with a very dirty car and the sun was out and roads were dry all the way home bit to late at this point. Now my cars back its time to get the car preped and ready for nurburgring at the emd of april. Undortanly i will not be doing 2nd round of TSS as its 3 day before i go to the ring.I am also in talks with someone to make me a adjustable toe and cambered rear beam so more to come on this soon.Thats it for now Edited April 26, 2015 by abbott
