V5 arrived today so i should really start a build thread.

Many of you will reconise this as Mr Tony Tang's 4age converted SR.

After owning another black (4efe) SR and spending some time working on it (fully learning as i went along) i came to the point where the little cars lack of grunt was becoming more and more of an issue for me. I love the look of SR's and in an ideal world i'd have gone down the 4efte conversion route but after a fair amount of reading i decided against attempting it myself, partly because of the headache involved with the electrics side of things and also because i'd end up chasing loads of power out of a turbo (without a bottomless pit of cash cash for a build) and my cars also got to function as a daily.............so, this 4Age converted SR (black=win) turned up on the forum sporting some crash damage and a cat D rite off but an impresive spec list and other than the dent was in amazing condition!

http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/Joeflynns/media/4AGE%20SR/DSCF2941_zpsa7e15576.jpg.html'>DSCF2941_zpsa7e15576.jpg

Still not 100% on the direction i was gonna head car wise i discounted the 4Age to try and save a bit more build money but kept finding myself going back to the for sale thread and in the end had to go see it as it wasn't too far away from me!

After talking to Tony via the forum i jumped on a ferry (im over on the Isle of Wight) and headed to Guildford to have a proper look at the damage and get some photos so a mate who does body work could give me a rough estimate of repair costs.

I'd fallen in love with the car even before i got there and secretly knew i was gonna be shaking hands on it that day but not without the Bride bucket seat (that was the deal breaker!)

Couple of photos of the crash damage:

Tony turned out to be a super good guy and i also met another one of the SR's previous owners (Tony's sister Shelly) who both filled me in on the history of the car, which had been in there family from new!

After agreeing on a price (seat included!) i arranged to come back with a trailer as soon as we could both be there and headed homeward with a big stupid grin on my face!

Me and a mate borrowed one of our work trucks after failing to convince anyone to lend us a 4x4 and were on the 4.00am ferry (saved about £80 going early doors) but made really good time on the way up and had about 3 hours to kill before it was reasonable to wake the Tang houshold!

Minus the arse raping you recieve as standard when trying to get off and on the Isle of Wight the pick up went pretty smoothly and by that evening i was the proud owner of two little black SR's :)

As Tony had returned the car to near enough sleeper spec on the outside (minus Sr decals) and my plans involve a couple of rear end bits from a Glanza and some aftermarket wings, i wasted no time in fitting 98 spec rear lights and a glanza rear bumper!

A set of vented wings and a slightly wider stance is on the cards when funds allow so when a set of hubcentric spacers came up for sale on the forum they had to be bought!

Had a test fit the other evening and with the IDWorkz wings and some rolling of the rear arches i think it will sit really well :)

Glad to see you're finally started a build thread on this. I can see good things coming from it!

Must add I've been wanting hubcentric spacers for mine for ages but not spending £240 on a full set!

Next job was to whip out the lovely standard seats and door cards to be replaced with the bride bucket/Imreza Sti seat and re-trimmed bride cards.

lol i know been a bit slack but i have been doing a few bits on the car....honest!

Pretty much skinted myself buying the car and what was put by for starting repairs got spunked on the spacers and a RW Developments masterpiece that couldn't be passed up!

Its gonna be a fairly slow paced build as stuff will have to get done as and when i can find funds and no plans to get it on the road till later in the year!

I could't justify the cost of brand spankers but a set in as-new condition for £180 was a bit easier to swollow :)

Did they come with it or they from the other motor?

The Bride seat and Tom's gear knob (trd short shift kit) came with the car but the other bits i swapped from car 1 lol

Haha Im not much of a threat mate....im no mechanic so most of my input is gonna be visuals.

When i fitted this carbon surround in my other car the fitment was shit and i removed it but after retro-fitting the metal clip bits from the original i got it to fit perfectly, so for now its back in favour! Also moved the (higher reading than standard) rev counter and shift light over to make room for the carbon pillar pod.

The head unit was fitted using an aftermarket basket/din thing so i swapped it up for an authentic Toyota one too.

Also been busy in the engine bay, slowly working my way around removing, cleaning, re-spraying and re-fitting bits.

Got a steadily growing pile of parts spread between my bedroom and shed and invested in a good quality cover for the car while its sat up :)

Got a few plans but mostly handling etc as i really like the look of the car as it is, there will however be some subtle changes to make my mark on it :)

Rob im pretty sure it was urself i was talking to at Japfest 1......u'll be pleased to know your handcrafted n/a cooling panel will be living on in the 4age complimenting the amazingly sculpted RW Developments catch can that arrived in the post today!

i've got big gaps in the bay but it still took some jostling to get it test fitted, cable a few bits in place for now as the cars not going anywhere but will need a bracket welding in to mount the electrics etc as they were exactly where the tank sits!

Did a bit more cleaning in the bay while i had things out the way and after mounting the catch can i stuck the front strut on to make sure nothing was fouling it.

http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/Joeflynns/media/DSCF3004_zps5444bb63.jpg.html'>DSCF3004_zps5444bb63.jpg

The catch tank was off a breaker and is a little discoloured but nothing a bit of Autosol and elbow grease wont sort out.

Remember seeing one on facebook a while back and thinking how cool it looked.......now i have one :)

http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/Joeflynns/media/DSCF2999_zps73b5d916.jpg.html'>DSCF2999_zps73b5d916.jpg

Final little mission of the day was fitting the rear strut and after stripping out the back of my first ep i was pretty made up that this one was gonna retain as much interior as possible.......so delicate cutting in was required to unite grey plasticness with white Ultra Racingness.

Haha you've already prempted a couple of questions I had for you mate......don't worry about trying to word things tactfully with me man, if you see I've done something silly....just tell me lol

Ill be honest I only had half a clue what I was having to move but there is a bracket sort of below and rite of the catch can that I was going to get a plate welded too and then mount it to that? Would that work?

My next questions are a bit retarded but anyway...

1) what is the little sensor thing that looks like a witches hat?

2) can I earth to the firewall? (back of the bay as looking at it)

3) is there any reason the bottom of the engine bay would be earthed to the side of the bay?

Thanks for the heads up though mate would have well panicked :)

Haha no worries, me and my mate had issues and worries when wiring mine up so rather than you do the same i thought id give you a heads up.

Yeah if the plate you weld to is part of the chassis then mounting onto that will be fine as it will allow the igniter to earth.

1) Little witches hat is air intake temp sensor. Ideally wants to be as close to the air filters as possible as the ecu adjusts itself to suit the air temp. Mine is inside the filter housing.

2) shouldn't be a problem if in doubt you can always run a wire from what you want to earth out to an existing earthing point.

3)the bottom of the bay to the side? Or the engine to the side?

If its just from chassis to chassis no that seems a bit pointless, unless it was a string of earths along the chassis to the battery, but id only do that if the battery was in the boot.

Engine to chassis yes. Id expect about 2 or 3 earth straps from engine and gearbox to chassis or direct to battery on one of them.

Lol your fuckin good at this shit.....

I think my main problem is that Tony was running an amp and other stereo bits so there's a fair amount of that wiring in the bay along with the HIDs wiring and all the random un needed 4efe plugs and wiring....it's a bit of a maze!

Ill try and get some picks posted tomorrow mate, might be easier to understand than my un technical explanations! Cheers dude, take it easy

Ok so no photo's for you yet Morgey but i have been busy between beach missions........Couple of bits turned up in the post so cracked on with fitting them.

Picked up a Momo boss after trying out a shit piece one off ebay (really poor build quality) and got the Momo "race" steering wheel banged on along with a TRD dial surround. The carbon horn button was a bitch to get hold of and i waited for months for it to ship!

Had a bit of daylight left so got a bit carried away and fitted one of the rear DGR coilovers (got these in an "infamous" group buy.....that well and truly put me off group buys :bad: ) went pretty well but im expecting more issues with the fronts!
