richdog Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Starting grass track racing soon. Vts seem to be a favourite however do we join in or do we give an old starlet one last chance for fame for a season. Quote
yaristurbo Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Starlet bud think of the spares you have where will you race? Quote
richdog Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 Dinnington to start with and see how things go . starlet a little under powered what mods can be made to an n/a without big costs as regulations are quite strict. Quote
daniel_g Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Put a 5e in it and dont tell anyone haha. Saxo VTS are pretty quick for that kinda thing. Quote
jimlols Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I'm not really up on this, but surely if you're competing in a class with VTS's in you should be in regulations to put a 5efe in the car? Quote
morgey Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Bang for buck vts. N/a would be completely out classed unless you could 5efhe it.Or could you blag a cheapy old beaten up V into it? Quote
mikey4410 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Beat up a vts, dont hurt anything starlet or glanza....... Quote
daniel_g Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I reckon a turbo charger would take it into a higher class ? Be nice to see some old school N/a starlet tuning going on Quote
morgey Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Whats the specs or class limitations? An old 1.6 single cam vtec civic would be good. 130hp cheap mods and upgrades. Quote
richglanzav Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 would of thought even a high mileage b16 or d16 gna take a lot more abuse than a VTS or pug engine? Quote
richdog Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 Budget for car Is £500.Civic sounds interesting. ! Quote
The_Notorious_C_A_T Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 citroen ax with a 16v engine in it. Quote
ste91 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) Get an old scappy B16 CRX and use that Don't ruin a CRX!!! Civic wouldn't be a bad shout though. What about a mk1 Toyota MR2 they're 1.6 non turbo. Edited July 1, 2014 by ste91 Quote
daniel_g Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Don't ruin a CRX!!! Civic wouldn't be a bad shout though. What about a mk1 Toyota MR2 they're 1.6 non turbo.I'd love to ruin a CRX.... maybe a few. Infact yeah defo a few. Quote
aaddzz123 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 You just want a really light weight piece of shit with a powerful reliable 1.6 or something of equal power.... What about rotory engines? Not sure how they perform without a turbo? Probably shit thinking about it...If it were me I'd probably be looking into a really cheap 1.1 saxo or something similar due to no weight and then a B16. Be easy to do for under a grand if you know how to do the work yourself and the B series engines take abuse all day long. Plus you'll have about 30-50bhp over the saxo boys depending on what they've done and what you end up doing to the engine ;) Quote
richdog Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Regs state no engine mods or that is a separate class.just dont think a stripped out starlet will have the guts.so looking more than likely french crap. Quote
maddox710 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 You just want a starlet n/a cut/chuck anything unneeded away . boom something quick and reliable is all you need Quote
aaddzz123 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 So you're not allowed to do engine conversions either? Has to be a car that came originally with THAT 1.6 or less?As much as I love the starlet, against a shit box saxo with nearly 50bhp more, you won't stand a chance lol.... I'd probably go for a saxo too if I'm honest. Unless you find a civic vti cheap enough (which you won't ) Quote
aaddzz123 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 This one looks perfect for smashing up lolhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Saxo-VTS-Track-Car-not-clio-106-gti-Rollcage-Bucket-seats-/181452053700?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2a3f629cc4 Quote
morgey Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Old corolla gti but they are getting rare and expensive. Civic 1.6 vtec D16 or B16 but doubt you'll get either in your price range. Ford puma 1.7 or is that out the group size?Fiesta Zetec S? Bit underpowered but handle well.Micra k11 1.3 weigh less than a starlet and have the same power stock plus run 2 cats so could possibly make your own exhaust to free a few ponies up easily. Quote
