ashep91
Hi my name is Ash I live in Nuneaton which is a small town no one has heard off so i always have to say midlands lol . I have had my starlet for about 8/9 years now and in that time it has progressed massively so i thought it was time i put a build thread up. To my knowledge its one of the first ones in my area and i think i have only seen another white one around however am sure there maybe others in the area if so get in touch. Unfortunately I've lost a few pics over the time but i still have some good ones and may find some as i go along. I always wanted a starlet but was too young for the insurance ect so when i graduated from university my dad gave me the keys to this beast as a present. it was brought from a company in Leeds called chequered flag. it came with sunroof electric windows and mirrors. I didn't ask the price for obvious reasons. After a while and much time spent on google i decided i wanted different wheels so i treated myself to some 3dsm deep dish alloys heres a pic of getting them put on at my local tyre place The wheels were 15" and the tyres were rubbing so we had to put stretched tyres on i thought it looked pretty cool i hadn't scene it been done before at the time and it was something the vw guys around here were going crazy about. Yes unfortunately not many Jap enthusiasts around this area everyone's V DUB. After a few months driving it around and having fun i found the brakes were not the best so started looking for an upgrade. I although i found i could upgrade the brake discs and pads i was driving the car fast around the streets (Chav ) and so needed stopping power i went for Ksport Big Brake ^ pot kit with the bigger discs. At the time it seems a great idea however as i found out when the kit went on the wheels did not fit so i had to buy hubtronic spacers for each corner and this is when the real transformation started as one thing lead to another. I found with the spacers the wheels stuck out a mile i wanted to keep the big brake kit as it was awesome the stopping power was crazy it literally ripped your face off and gave you the confidence needed on the road. So what was i to do? well after much pondering i decided to get the arches flared to compensate for the wider wheel stance. The rear were fine but obviously not a lot could be done with the front. Around the time of my cousins wedding i was talking with some relatives from up north (bare with me i have a lot of relatives there were 1800 people at this wedding alone ) they said there is a guy from near them inHuddersfield who does bits for starlets and they would get me the details. After receiving the details i seen this varies kit wider front fender which was great but then i thought the front bumper would look funny and the back too with the flared rear arches so what does a guy do? yes i brought a full varies kit fenders, front rear bumpers, bonnet side skirts and both top spoiler and mid duck spoiler. i got in touch with IDDY from ID Works and the parts were received. Then i thought (this happens a lot to me) what about the space in between the front bumper so i brought a hdi front mount intercooler as well as a blitz nur spec full exhaust system and miester coilovers for the low ride With the front mount intercooler new varis bonnet I checked up on the car through its progress at the paint and body work shop. Everytime i went to the shop with my cousin we kept saying the car was nice in black but its looks really good with the white bits on and with summer approaching at this time white cars were becoming very popular the new black. I had a word with the paint guy and he said as the kit was simple and good condition it wouldn't take much to? yes you guessed it full colour change . I didn't want a normal white and whilst at work one of my patients insisted on showing me his new range rover sport which was anew white Fuji wjite (white with a tint of blue in it . I gave the paint guy the go ahead and it was done .Few pics of the car indoor Some pics of it outside. It was a dark gloomy summers day (typical when the car was done so took the best pics as i could. The eagle eyed people will notice i have de locked the car both sides and boot but left the original Japanese tax disc as i think it is a nice touch. I fitted a viper alarm system with field sensors so if anyone gets too close to the car it tells them to move away with a pager system which lets me know. So i was very happy with the end product i drove the car everyday in the summer heads turned every time i went anywhere if i was driving or parked at the petrol station or shopping at the local store people wanted to take a picture of it and asked what it was as I de baged it. Well that was it for the summer i put the car away it gets washed underneath and over undersealed waxed polished put on axle stands and covered for the winter this car has not even seen rain lol. The next summer i wanted to move on with the car i thought i would get the external things done before i take on the major engine gearbox ect. Sadly my usual mechanic has fallen ill so i gave the car to another local so called car tuning shop for a full service and other bits which i would find out would be a bad experience.i went out and brought all the handling parts i needed off the top of my headcusco top roll bar, white line bottom roll bar, white line anti lift kit, cusco panhard rod, powerflex bushes suspension arms beams rear and front, white line rear roll bar, I brought 6 gauges saga v5 as they looked greatboostoil tempwatervoltrevoil pressurei also purchased the followingblitz dump valvefpr tuning developmentsuprated fuel pumpnew magnacore leads rota arm cap ectnew bearings all aroundnew rod endsand other service stuff fluids ect here is the car at the so called tuning shop i will never take or recommend these people to anyone absolute joke if there is any local lads on here pm me i will tell you who they are for obvious reasons i don't want to put them on my build thread. At this point i purchased a barced japspeed de cat for the time being befor i go for another turbo setup from a guy off this forum cant remember his name. This is the pic when it was fitted box of the gauges Gauges put in and temporally mounted I purchased a tripple core racing radiator half sized i don't think you can quite see it in the next pic but you can in a few after. I purchased indigo dash which came with the whole dash so its being swapped over The work should of taken 2 weeks 4 weeks after it still was not done we fixed a price for the job in the end half was done and they still wanted full payment. I argued the fact that all the work was not done which was agreed you wouldn't walk into asda pay for full amount of shopping and leave with half?? but they said they were holding my car till payment was made. After much talk i waited at the shop and it got abit nasty i managed to get my car no physical abuse but the guy who owned the shop was telling me to take it to my own people next time whatever that meant?? so i was left with a car which had a full service gauges fitted but 2 are not working, the door lock on the passenger was working before i gave it them wasn't when i got it back, dump valve not fitted, leads not changed, I thought i would cut my loses and just get out of there whilst i could. After this disappointment i was abit out of love with the project the car drove well but was rough around the edges as i am a perfectionist i hated this. the ride was annoying me also the stretched tyres were no good for grip and the stiffness on every bump was horrible. Between this time i also got married so not a lot of time as we had around 2000 guests most were family lol . I brought a few more goodies for the exterior and decided to finish off the outside if the car and drive it around slowly .A few parcels arrived i did the pics in frames for the suspense lol. So recap i purchasedarm restrear lights 98 spec clearjam racing ecu just for nowbonnet strutsand the dash with indigo dials After driving it for a while I could hear a clunk from the exhaust so I took it to the local custom fabrication shop they got it on the ramp and found the rear bit of the blitz nur spec exhaust was moving so they had it on the ramp and tack welded it into place. I took a few more shots whilst it was on the ramp also found a few more shots of the car during its paint and body work indoors The money shot Edited February 3, 2015 by ashep91
