have you checked for leaks? have a proper look for nay damping on the block/gearbox. do you still have a standard cat? if the engine is using oil, it doesnt mean it will smoke a ton. it may just be using a little bit and youre not noticing it burn off. just have to give it a proper check over to see where its going!

i bypassed it on my old starlet. cant notice a difference, i just did it to tidy up the hosing when i put the new engine in. its quite easy to do though if youre thinking about it.

just needs to pass the generic idle test. which is set HIGH. it only needs finer testing if there is the specs on the vosa machine, which there isnt. my 200 just pissed an MOT emission test. that has full 3 inch turbo back jobby. my old starlet even passed it, and that was... quite rediculous.

any toyota garage. its the same as any other starlet.

fit it to anywhere within the pipework between the turbo and the throttle body. then the vac lines needs to come from after the TB. simple as.

dont buy a cheapy chinese one geo. if you want good quality for a decent price, the tial ones are ok.

if you can afford it lewis, get the dsbc, the one with the big solenoid block. the single ones are good. but the dual ones are the tits, very precise controls.

i have had experience with the HDI, the blitz and the greddy units. i still stand by the "sell it and get a better one" statement i made earlier. as i said before. the HDI ones dont have a proper gain control. so managing boost is never easy. if youre spending good money on a turbo motor, why skimp on one of the most important pieces of kit? i have used a Greddy profecB2 (on my starlet) and it was great, held boost perfectly and i was running more than your average levels of boost. the blitz item is also good, i have the DSBCR on my s15 and i know of other people who use it and its really bloody good, better than the greddy even. with this in mind. think about your options. is a potential engine rebuild worth the 50 quid youre saving by using the HDI?

its not a "who has the best bits" dick swinging contest. its fact, HDI boost controllers are not very good, they dont hold boost very well or accuratly. i was only recommending what i would buy as i have had experience with the hdi the blitz and the greddy and was trying to steer you in the right direction. you dont have to listen to my advice you cocky little prick. but i will have the "i told you so" card waiting for when it overboosts without you realising and you lose your ringlands. so go enjoy your boost.
