  1. good stuff mate, glad to see you have ditch the ct9 compressor cover. this looks a really good turbo and i would love to give it a try on my externally gated setup. is there a price yet?
  2. ok cool, you can always whip the airfilter off and have a feel of the compressor end to see if there is any play. if there is no play then it will be the cheaper price for the seals. when my last turbo went it was still perfoming fine even though it had bearing damage, no, noise, no loss of boost just smoke on idle and a puff when coming off boost. when does it smoke? also have a check of the pcv valve and breathers
  3. clutch? sounds like thats whats going on. turbo comes in, revs fly up without the speed. clutch stops slipping and engages dropping the revs a little and then pulls as it should. will do it more around 4k as this is when you will be making peak power
  4. any pics of this turbo? because to cut a ct20 shaft down to fit a ct9 housing would leave nothing left of the shaft!? cant see how anyone has made that fit to be honest. the shaft on the ct20 is huge which would explain the lag. sounds like a very mismatched turbo to your set up. is the boost dropping off?
  5. depends to what extent it is damaged, if its just seals then around £190ish if there is excessive play causing damage to shaft and comp wheel then looking around £350-400 also it depends on the parts used in the hybrid as to which rebuild kit is needed i advise every one to stay away from diy rebuild kits. its a risky move and one that could cost you so much more money in the long run.
  6. what goes around comes around! remember you did the exact same thing to the passanger side one on my glanza. verdict, your just heavy handed and a danger to anything even slightly breakable, there is no fix for that
  7. run the vac pipe from the actuator straight to the nipple on the turbo. what boost do you get then?
  8. dont worry about the small cracks, they will make bugger all difference mate, only really bad cracks will have an effect.
  9. just keep a very close eye on it mate, hopfully there is no bearing and shaft damage. the problem is the internal oil feeds in the housing and bearings are very small and easily clogged, hopefully running the new oil through and proper maintanance will clear it all out. and its also a point to mention a rebuild now is gonna be so much cheaper now (around 180) compared to a full repair on a dead turbo (450ish) so depending on funds and your level of concern it might be worth looking at
  10. i dont really agree with this thread being cleaned to be honest. i feel that if someone is handing out poor advise then they should be called out for it. but hey moderate as you see fit if there was a lot of carbon build up at the back of the shaft head and around the piston ring area it can cause it to seize up. but the only way to really solve that problem is to strip the turbo fully down and do a full rebuild and balance. ps mickey you can apologise for your ignorance towards me by pm if you feel that way keeps your pride intact
  11. check all your pipe work again, can you hear a leak? if the turbo feels hard to turn it could (key word could) have had some oil starvation. but check everything simple before you resort to sending the turbo off to be checked out.
  12. are they both the same variation of ct9? or is one an A and the other a B? if they are both the same then its just a case of undoing the clamp holding the turbine housing on and carefully and evenly tapping it off. then just swap them over and put it back together. as long as your not stripping the core down then you wont need anything else doing.
  13. hey all, just an update to let you know that im still about and my car is still alive. new turbo set up feels pretty nice but i still dont have it running its full boost yet. when i do i will get it on the dyno, if it doesnt do as i would hope then i will build another hybrid! i realised just now ive not put pics up of the new set up fitted yet so i will get onto that soon. keiran
  14. its an old one but my fav plus i havnt took any new ones!
  15. i just think this thread is stupid and pointless. ive been on this site for years and consider myself a true starlet entuisiast, i stoped using the site for a while because i just wasnt liking the scene anymore. ive started to come back to try and help share a bit of technical knowlegde were i can. but threads like this reassure me that the starlet scene has gone drastically down hill and im right to consider selling as the glanza just dont represent what it used to. its a bit dissapointing when you click on a thread that you feel you may be able to answer but only to find that the thread i
  16. grow up and dont drive like a cock is always an option though. will save you money and possibly peoples lives.
  17. might sound a bit harsh but if you cant afford to run it and your not grown up enough to be able to drive sensibly then sell it and get something else that you can afford and that you wont drive fast.
  18. yes some people will, but others wont, im trying to get a broad view. i know for sure i wouldnt bother with a second hand one.
  19. just seeing if there is much demand for standard reconditioned ct9 units. i know there are loads of hybrids for sale but i know sometimes people can just want a stock replacement. as far as im aware there aint anyone selling them on here right? if im stepping on the toes of traders thats fair enough. obviously they will be rebuilt to perfect standard just an idea at the moment as im seeing quite a lot of smoky ct9s for sale on here ebay and tgtt that could easily be brought back to life and put to good use. obviously due to the labour and cost of parts they are not gonna be mega cheap. may
