some research into vintage motoring modification or old school hotrods will infact tell you that this can be done, but it has to be done PROPERLY by people who know what they are doing. what do u think they did before shortened springs were available. however, i strongly urge you NOT to do this. as you dont know what you're doing. as stated above, for the sake of £60, its safest to buy springs. i would never recommend anyone to cut them. but as streetracer has already stated, it CAN be done, but it would not be suitable for your SR, it is NOT a practice i would ever recommend for modern day modifying given how cheap parts have become. leave it to those who know what they are doing in the appropriate circles. you dont have to get rear discs for the turbo conversion, they just look nicer. they do sweet naff all anyway as the bias is set mostly to the fronts, but for completeists sake u would want them. have a look on my build thread or Joz's build thread as just two examples of turbo engine conversions into UK n/a's. you'll see the parts that were required in there, bit of a lengthy list. sorry to see this man. my advice is, sell off the epic engine parts, get the exterior as epic as u wanted it, and just curb the engine back to a tweaked standard item that should be a bit less tempermental, basically the approach i have had to take, tryin to ensure reliability over out-and-out grunt. at least she would still turn every head on the street with her looks and exhaust note dude, and hopefully then she would give u improved reliability. all the best buddy and keep us updated!
