I am picking up a 5e next week, which I plan to forge, although i have a quick question, i noticed that the 5e engine looks like its got an electronic igntion, over my current mechanical ignition (rotar arm). Will there be any problems because of this fitting it to my ep82 loom and while they take the engine out for me to pick up, are there any other parts which i need to make sure i get, i,.e to do with the ignition etc. Its done 86k, totally standard and seems in good nick aside from oxidisation, i am a happy bunny! Thanks Craig

yeah its a 1.3 after all so off boost it should be quite economical, i noticed the fuel economy went right down when he cranked up the fuel rail pressure because it was leaning out at high RPM. Its fixed the air/fuel ratio mixture when the TD04 is going balls out, but a side effect is that my car when off boost is now running really high rail fuel pressure anything from 13-15psi. What mpg are people getting running td04?

Not sure if my car is drinking fuel like no ones business, but i put in £20 the other day and i only got 70 miles out of it, i worked it out and im only getting 21mpg!! and whats worse driving slow seems to make no difference to fuel economy. I noticed the fuel pressure at 1900rpm is about 15psi then levels off to 11psi when the turbo spools up at 4000rpm, Is this high fuel pressure from the RRFPR the cause as its mechanical? I am wondering if putting in engine management wil help?

I didnt know the bottom end had gone on your car, when did that happen? Did it go after they had put it all back together at tuning developments?
-
I would help you out but I have been looking for about 2-3 months for one to come along, sorry dude!
-
whats happened to the crank shaft you had?
-
oh no has somthing gone wrong with the 5e? I have just put a deposit down on a complete 5e engine too, gonna go pick it up on the 7th from Derby. £120, bloody bargain, all the ones i have seen have been £250!

i wouldnt have the heart to rip out my boxy interior, i love it too much
-
Yes i agree, i stripped out mine like you mention and it wasnt even my daily and i used to hate driving it on the road, yes it was fast and flew around corners but it makes it so noisy, rickety, bumpy arggghh it drives me mad even thinking about it. It totally ruins the car to drive on the road other than if your driving it on the track, just prepare to go deaf if you do thats all

The 5e is going to be my next project, I want to forge it and couple it with a TD05 next, its my holy grail objective so to speak, i want to be running 300+bhp in the ep70 lol I plan to learn how to build it my self, i think it will give me more satisfaction that way and i can do it at my own pace as the forged bits are pricey! Thats not to say i am not gonna have fun the ep70 as it is, i just need something to keep me occupied, im married now i need to live in garage more than the house

mwhahaha I have just bought a complete working 5E engine for £125

The lightest EP anyone has ever got a starlet is about 680kg and thats with a roll cage in it which weighed about 50kg. Check out nighspirts blog, he had the lightest starlet ever known to man! http://www.night-spirit.co.uk/ep82_blog/?paged=1 His blog is back to front to to goto the start you need to go next a few times

Nice one lads,
-
yes you may need a spare pair of pants for the late braking lol
-
yeah could be a couple of things at high revs, knock sensor, fuel cut, best to check

make the light come on, take it home, turn the ignition off one click to stop engine but keep ignition on so light doesnt get reset. Then bridge out the correct pins in the diagnostic box in the engine bay and count the flashes of the engine management light, the number of flashes indicates a code for a fault. Check the fault number and hey presto Craig

I think my Prospeed boost guage is giving me inaccurate readings, i had it on the rolling road yesterday set to 1bar but my own guage is saying its going up to 1.5bar!! So i have had to back off the throttle in case my engine goes bang. Need another guage to test if its reading wrong or not.
-
Ah yes i put the GT servo in on mine, has to squeeze it in with a hammer mind you lol. I remember you saying that because yours was lhd the master cylinder was in the way.

did they make that much of a difference then, what benefits did you notice? Also have you fitted the front anti roll bar?
