  1. I am going to fabricate my own lightweight fuel tank, based on NightSpirits design below Its not much of a complicated design, i just need to find a alloy box that will allow the fuel pump to sit nicely in it and touch near the bottom to suck maximum fuel. I need to know what adapter fittings are required to extend the fuel lines from the stock tank. Should make a massive weight saving doing this, the tank weighs about 1KG and the standard steel one about 10kg. Once i have perfected the design i might start making them to order, seems no one does it for any of the starlet clubs and i thin
  2. Yeah i guessed the steering would be like a lead weight when not moving so wouldnt really be suitable if your parking and stuff. As a couple of people have said though when your driving fast i.e on track its quite light so im gonna give it a try, if it turns out to be horrible, i'll get the non power steering rack. Can someone tell me what non pas rack i would need and where to get one from ;)
  3. Right done some more poking around, it seems its important to not let the rack fluid drain out when i disconnect it all. Any suggestions on the best way to seal the rack with the fluid not being able to pour out
  4. I know this is an older thread but its on the same subject i need info on: So it seems removing the Power steering is a good way to save weight for me as its a track car and i have another car as a daily comute. Just before i go butcher more stuff out of my bay, can i confirm that this is the case: Remove the Power steering pump Remove belt from pully Remove any ajoining brackets Remove the PAS reseviour tank and all the pipework to the rack Anything else? I am asuming that the PAS pipes run down to the rack somewhere and hook on, do i need to cap these off, if so can i just screw somthin
  5. Ah glad the CAT worked ok, i used it last year too ;) Like i mentioned though i will need to get the temp sender back off you. If your running the CAT you can just blank it off with a plug, its just a warning sensor to put the engine management light on if the CAT is overheating to avoid damage. ;)
  6. Yeah i have been wondering what to do with that, the only problem is that i find it a pain in the ass reading peoples build threads when its spread out over 30 pages of posts, you cant find anything. It loads quite quick on mine though, does it load slow on everyone elses?
  7. Nice one, i just need to remember how to wire it all back up now ha!
  8. The fact my dad has lent me some serious cutting tools may not have been a good thing lol, cutting the boot skin out was so dangerous, had one of them metal saw things that shoots in and out really fast! This is just my toy car, not my daily any more so i really am gonna goto town on it and see how light i can get it!
  9. Big Update!! (posts on page 1) Got the engine in today, bloody well chuffed and i didnt even use a crane, just a friend who helped me last time, loads of swearing, two jacks and my car on the deck lol. While i was at it i have stripped out the outer skin of the boot, got a cutter and cut out loads of redundant brackets and crap inside, got out loads of redundant wiring, removed the old crap dials, removed the rest of the aircon carbon unit, plus some more wiring. Weight saving here we come!!! Gonna start pluggin it all in tomorrow ;)
  10. Nightmare!! Although its a bit of work, i would work backwards now, get the wires you cut off and wire them back on one by one, some of the plugs could be running earths for sensors and all other kinds of crap. It doesnt look like to many wires, first off just make sure none of them are shorting, then rewire em back in until it runs right!
  11. Updated thread with more info (all pics are on page 1) Engine bay was cleaned up with gunk, then i completly sprayed it mettalic black, including the sub frame parts and the slam panel on the front, no more rust!! Exedy Clutch is now fitted Gearbox is now mounted to engine and she is ready to get cookin! check out pics on page 1
  12. Was i right in saying that that unit on the right is the carbon filter?
  13. I spoke to someone who had taken the power steering out of his and he said that it compeltly wrecked the handling of the car and it used to judder all over the place when turning without it. I think im gonna keep it in!
  14. Ok so most things have been stripped, although there are still some straglers left in my bay that i reckon can be pulled out, based on the pictures below, can you see anything that i have missed that can be pulled out. I noticed there is a fuel filter and what i believe to the right of it is the old carbon filter, is this true and if so can i take it out? Also above middle top of the bay are a bunch of sensors, (can these go, which ones) someone told me that thesea are part of the old aircon unit and are no longer needed. If you can see stuff i have missed please point it out , oh i think im
  15. Hi I need to find out what size shims to put in my box with the quaiffe LSD i fitted, does anyone have any ball park figures to go on so i can experiement the correct ones. Cheers Craig
  16. Engien came out no probs without a crane from the bottom, do you think i can get it back in without one or will i need a crane?
  17. Its an easy fix so not worried, the rest of the paint job is spot on!
  18. I think you said £50 but you would give me discount because the Y ran, so £45 sounds good if your up for that
  19. I'll see if i can send those wing mirrors to you some time in the week the same colour, should look sick, err literally lol
  20. Ollie is your man £40 bargain!
  21. As long as my clutch comes friday i am going to be trying to get the engine back in on the weekend, if i get stuck with any pipes i'll post some pics up of the bad boy below
  22. Yes that is a good point, i am in South Wales so not so sure who is the closest to get a good map though. Is it a difficult job to wire in an E-Manage blue? and can comeone explain what they mean by all these accessories you can buy with them, harness, 3 bar map sensor and what ever else you need?
  23. Seen the Toms ECU in the for sale section, but i cant find anything about it on Google, who the hell is TOM lol, he got a website, wanted to look up specs etc
  24. Ok so read though the old posts and i seem to have the jist of the whole ECU minefield, but still need a bit of help from people with experience on picking the correct one. I am looking for around 200-230 ish bhp not going for huge power as im more concerned with reliability being a track car, will be boosting about 1bar, i will have a permenant Td04 setup, which i dont plan on changing. From what i gather E-Manage blue and ultimate seem to be more geared towards people who want the ultimate performance tune for maximum power, so i dont think this applies to me, and the £800 price ta
