Is getting my turbo made into a hybrid worth it?
funny onion replied to dan106's topic in Intake, Turbo & Exhaust
I Have a tongs hybrid, had it on my red gt until I sold I recently and it's now on the ep70. Instant boost whatever gear and pulls hard right around the Rev range. Have a td04 hybrid and have ran tf035hm etc but the tongs is my favourite turbo -
I get a lot of it in the traffic on the dual carriage way to/from work. 99% of the time I don't even bother, not worth it. Had an Audi R8 trying to get me to have a go on Saturday, I didn't even try haha, sounded good though as he overtook me doing about 90 in a 30.

SOLD!!! Thanks for the interest guys, sad to see it go

The fcd was already fitted when I got the car. I had a wideband on it until recently (wanted to keep the wideband for one of my other builds) and the fueling was fine on and off boost. Obviously an ecu and map is better but it's never missed a beat. I don't really harass any of my cars tbh. Got someone viewing it tonight. If he doesn't buy it you're more than welcome to come have a look!

Year: 1994 Model: Toyota Starlet GT Turbo Mk2 MOT: fresh MOT on 09/07/2016 valid until 09/07/2017 Mileage: Engine 140,000kms approx, will check clocks tonight for chassis mileage Description: First of all, I will NOT be selling this to someone who wants to break it. If it gets broken in the future theres not much I can do about that but I wont be the one to send it to the slaughter. Secondly, Ive been as honest as I can. I am not a professional sprayer and have never learnt from a professional. I dont have a booth. The car has imperfections but Ive always been proud to say it was mine and I did the work (with help from Sam- professional mechanic). I saved it from being broken and got it back on the road. Im not in a mad rush to sell, but I feel like its time for someone else to have some fun in it and I have several other projects on the go now. If I have a serious buyer there is the possibility to view the car on a ramp if a serious buyer wishes to do so. The car can come on the Black Team Dynamics with 195 50 15 R888s, or the Gold/Polished Lip Cades Eros with 195 50 15 Toyo Proxes T1Rs as seen in the photos. Both sets of wheels are 15 7j. The Cades are approx. et38, the team dynamics are a slightly lower offset I think. Story of the car in my ownership, Full build thread here --> http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/91265-%e2%99%aa%e2%99%ab-charlottes-red-mk15-gt-turbo-project-%e2%99%aa%e2%99%ab/ I originally bought the car as a non-runner with suspected bottom end failure in December 2014. Got it recovered back to my lock up and had a good look over it. Im not a fan of breaking starlets unless theyve been written off in an accident. So I set about restoring it. Body work was good and it was very straight but the paint wasnt too good. Paint had cracked on the wings, bumpers were scratched, boot lid was faded and the roof was terrible. I decided to spray the car in Toyota 3E5 2K red- the same red that Glanzas come in, and the same red as the TOMs GT Turbo. I started gathering brand new OEM parts to overhaul the brakes and other things. The rear callipers were stripped and rebuilt with new seals, new rear wheels bearings etc. I removed the engine and gearbox and stripped out the engine bay, sprayed the panels and the car, and sprayed the engine bay candy gold. I sourced an engine from Socks daily Glanza at the time and a 6 speed gearbox from a corolla G6. Fitted a new Exedy organic road clutch kit and mounted the box to the engine ready to drop in. The car came on 15 Team Dynamics with 195 50 15 R888 tyres. No other handling/suspension mods apart from Monroe shocks and springs. Im a bit of a fanny in the wet so I swapped my Cades Eros wheels with brand new Toyo Proxes T1Rs. I also fitted some suspension I had (I think theyre KYB gas shocks and springs) as the Monroe shocks and springs were VERY low and the drive to my lock up is not friendly. I fitted an RS*R panhard rod to realign the rear axle. The shifter needed modifying for the 6 speed box. Also bought a brand new WEPR CT9 externally gated power up kit and a few shiny bits like cooling panel, clear timing cover etc. Once it was sprayed I got it built back up and the replacement engine and box in. Fired it up and it ran very well. Dropped the oil and then took it out for a drive. All was good, got it in for an MOT and had a few years of fun in it! Just put a fresh MOT on it this weekend 09/07/2016 so its good to go for the new owner! Some parts arent perfect. Ive just resprayed the front and rear bumper to get rid of stone chips. I sprayed the roof as the original paint was indescribable. Its not great but much better than the original paint. Coolant leak from the radiator. I just top it up when it needs it and keep a bottle of pre mixed coolant in the boot. Never overheated with me as I keep it topped up. Ideally would want a replacement civic rad (around £60). Seems like it could be coming from the drain plug. Can arrange delivery for an additional cost on a recovery truck if necessary.

Scrap it... lol Nah it will be good for picking parts up and in winter etc I'm gonna sneak down and spray it pink.

I guess this is another term for crank walk? the crank moves left/right basically along it's length. the thrust washers are there to prevent it happening. Basically it fudges the bottom end. stresses big end and main bearings and journals. 4e/5e's don't seem to suffer from it or not that I've heard of, but Evo engines suffer badly I think. I've never seen an engine with it but I'd take the sump off and check for play along the length of the crank. I'm sure someone can provide a more technical explanation but that's my understanding of it :S

I've got a set for an engine I'm forging. Not heard any bad reviews

Replaced Valve stem oil seals but still smoke, Please help!
funny onion replied to paddy's topic in MOT & Maintenance
I've had this a few times, turned out to be turbo seals every time -
Just used Taiho bearings in both of my forged builds and was a bit worried, this makes me feel a bit better! haha

I like the mud flaps! original is cool!
-
I tired 8x15 et 10 on my P7 and they stuck out miles on the front! were ok on the rear though

That's cool I like that, I have a rubber splitter I might try and use once I've got the front end on, still need to sort radiator and intercooler out yet, but maybe haha

♛ Charlotte's EP70 Turbo- MOT Passed!

nah it's just tucked there for the minute, going to fix it up with some P clips, also there's a lug in the fuel tank that can be used to clip it all tidy and out of the way -

Bit more progress! managed to brush out the crap and surface rust that was in the spare wheel well. gave it a coat of rust stabiliser and a going over with some white stonechip. looks much better! Also Sam kindly ran me some new copper brake lines to the rear as the original ones needed replacing. He used the good brake flaring tool from his work. Also made up some braided lines for the rear. So the brakes are all ready to be bled up, just need to swap he handbrake clips from another set of rear callipers and we're good to go. Lif pump and fuel filter are mounted behind the fuel tank, and a new feed to the front ran in (using the standard feed as the return to the tank). Started running the fuel lines up through the wheel well to the swirl pot, but it proved difficult to drill through! I built up the swirl pot, fitted the R32 GTR sard pump etc, so that's sat in place properly now. Sam found a spare relay to use for the two pumps, I also fitted a 30A fuse in line from the power from the battery. I'd ran the signal wire in a while ago so that was already there. Hopefully get some fuel in her at some point and test the flow to the front, make sure the swirl pot fills enough etc. So essentially the brake system is finished, the fuel system is 90% complete. Bit more wiring to do at the front end but progress is progress! Also undersealed the full car but haven't got photos of that -
Looks good! I have 2 or 3 spare valences, wouldn't mind trying to make a custom one out of the spares maybe when I have some free time!

Yeah you can use mk1 or mk2 with mk1 bumper just not mk3 obviously. Had a mk2 grill on my mk1 bumper. They may actually be the same never really checked them side by side

bump, someone must know!

Just a quick ask- what's the thread size on the end of the fuel rail? where the standard banjo bolt would normally go? need to order an AN fitting for it for my build. Any help appreciated! Thanks!

No I'm definitely not doing anything to the bumper, I will make it fit without bumper modifications! I'm hoping to get a small core for the CT9, fingers crossed!
