iamkierram Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Hey everyone, I am pleased to annouce I am finally the proud owner of a Toyota Starlet Glanza V! I just wanted to say hello to everyone, my name is Kierra, and I'm from Lincolnshire, I've been wanting a Starlet for a good year and a half now after having my first car for three years - a very slow, very heavy Mk 4 VW Golf. Although I'm sad to see it go, after spending all of last weekend travelling to Wales to buy the car and taking it out to stretch its legs yesterday, it's safe to say I have fallen in love with the new purchase! It's a completely standard 1.3 turbo '98 spec, the only modifications are a blow off valve, an Exedy clutch (apparently) alloys and it has been lowered a touch (about 30mm) Here are a few photos on little Caspa! It currently needs a new set of tyres and balancing as there is a bit of wobble on the motorway, a possible cambelt change as it has been sitting for a little while, and maybe a CV joint/ engine mount replacement on the rear drivers side as it has developed a quiet knocking when turning right! Thank for reading! And I hope to keep you all posted with the gradual improvements (particularly the body work as someone has tried to get into the drivers door in the past leaving some unsightly dents!) Quote
Dale SR Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 welcome to the site Your Glanza looks really smart Quote
JDMfreak Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 welcome along very tidy 98 spec and looks in tip top shape Quote
iamkierram Posted June 16, 2016 Author Posted June 16, 2016 it looks a bit better than it is! after driving it around for a few days it seems to be leaking as i have a small amount of water in the wheel well, and a knocking has developed on what i can hear is the front driver's side when turning right! and someone has tried to jack up the car on it's panhard rod from what i can see so the rear wheels aren't aligned. but... apart from that it's a beauty and i love it! haha, i have ordered a lot of parts to fix these problems so fingers crossed it will be a perfect little machine in a few weeks! thanks for welcoming me! =D Quote
starletezy Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Oil leaks and water leaks are common on these other than that there sweet Quote
iamkierram Posted June 17, 2016 Author Posted June 17, 2016 it's no a bad example, once all the teething problems are sorted out. hopefully they will sorted pretty soon too Quote
ReeceGolliker Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) Looks nice, where in Lincolnshire are you? Edited June 22, 2016 by ReeceGolliker Quote
Calum122 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Hi there looks tidy! Luckily these engines are really simple so you shouldn't get into too much trouble. If you need a standard Pan hard rod then I have one lying about that I need to get shot of. Just cover postage. Although to be honest you are not in need of a standard one. If it's been lowered then you need an adjustable one! Stick with the car, it's a lot more exciting than a MK4 Golf But it is an old car so expect a few teething problems. Once they're sorted though that will be a very grand car indeed Quote
iamkierram Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 thanks for the offer of the panhard rod callum! i have already got a whiteline adjustable one though, just need to find the time to fit it!and reece, i'm in grimsby! Quote
ReeceGolliker Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I'll be back in Grimsby area next week! Fair few of us in the area! Quote
iamkierram Posted June 22, 2016 Author Posted June 22, 2016 haha, yea i think there are about four or five aren't there? six now including me =') Quote
Glanza Mac Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Very tidy example, I see you the other day near cleethorpes seafront but I was in my my passat at the time :-), if you need a hand with anything just give any of us a shout as we are all willing to help to get our cars as nice as they can be :-) Rob. aleximport25 Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Very nice purchase buddy :-) welcome along, looks like a very clean base Quote
iamkierram Posted August 19, 2016 Author Posted August 19, 2016 just a quick update on my Glanza, it's been in and out of the garage the past few weeks, it's had a full service and according th the mechanic he's surprised that any fuel got through the fuel filter! it's also had a new panhard rod fitted, as the existing one was bent and wasn't appropriate with the car being lowered. it has also had a few bits like the boots on the front CV joints replaced, which seems to have eliminated the knocking sound, this is much better (and cheaper) than the original plan of changing both the front joints! But the big change is it now has some beautiful white Rota J-SPL fifteen inch alloys and some new, sticky Toyo tyres fitted! It is running like a dream and I am so happy with this little car! I'm now on the look out for a big Livesport spoiler, (which is going to be difficult) but if anyone knows of one for sale please let me know! Quote
jimmymac101 Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Looking good man! And welcome to the fourm James Quote
ReeceGolliker Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 I'm in Grimsby and I'm putting mine back to stock. We could swap bootlids with cash my way? (040 white with a livesports spoiler and OEM midspoiler) or just swap spoilers with cash. I've got loads of aftermarket bodywork that I'm looking to replace with stock 😂 Message me if interested Quote
Calum122 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Looking tidy! Glad you're enjoying it and the problems are being sorted! Quote
Lynch Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Lovely little example of a Glanza. Welcome to the forum. Quote
iamkierram Posted July 7, 2017 Author Posted July 7, 2017 Just a quick update on the Glanza, it has been in the body shop while I've been on holiday to repair some rust on the driver's side rear arch and some crowbar damage from when someone tried to pries the door open before I owned it. It went to Spray Bay in Immingham and I'm very impressed with their work, such good value for money and the result is really good, Especially around the door. If anyone in the Grimsby area is looking to get body work done I fully recommend them, and they're really nice guys too Here's a few photos of the before and after of the arch (I will post the door photos later): Quote
akyakapotter Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 looks good nothing like a bit of fresh paint. cheers nick Quote
