Been tightening it from each corner, all even etc to pull it flat

I use loctite premium black silicone from halfords. Ground it to be great stuff! Use it on loads of sumps that I do, even the VW ones! When sealing sumps if it's not spotlessly cleans and free from oil there is no point trying to seal it up. Preparation is every thing when it comes to sumps. Get some brake or carb cleaner and clean all the surfaces down with that so it's absolutely clean. Then run a nice bead of sealer round the edge. When you stick the sump to the engine you want to put it on once. Don't move it around to find the bolt holes if your location studs are gone. Tightening up should be done from the corners working your way in words. This is how I do my sumps. I would recommend you leave the sealer to go off over night. But I have driven cars after 20mins and they have been fine.

I dont have time for this 24hour malarkey, overnight is all i have lol.

Tried black silicone RTV last night and touch wood i think it has got it! Used your technique grant. And used carb cleaner to clean surfaces up. Will see if its sealed tommorow, if not i will try the suggestions above

Thanks!

I wouldn't tighten it all the way as it will just piss out on the edges if you have given it enough time to set! as mentioned let it set for 24hr and then tighten it all up.

i used the loctite copper sealant, worked a treat. Like the boys said, make sure its super clean and dry. I would personally leave it for 24 hours before putting oil in the engine just to save having to redo the process again if it wasnt left long enough.

Yep you are all right lol, fucking thing is leaking still...

So the idea is im guessing is once its all degreased with brake cleaner/carbcleaner or similiar, use a bead of sealant all the way around, wait till it sets then bolt it up? Ie to create like a proper gasket?

i used 2 beads, one on the outside and one on the inside of the bolt holes if that makes sense. Get it fitted and bolted in place as quick as you can after using the sealent. You want it to set on the engine. It might also be an idea to use a torque wrench to tighten up all the bolts to the correct torque, overtightening can bend the sump which would result in a crap seal.

And obviously dont put any oil in the engine for a good 24 hours.
