dan106
What oil do people recommend for these engines? I was gonna go castrol 10w40 part synth, but it seems apparently 5w40 will be better? Always cautious about running thinner oil!And whats the difference between Maganatec, Gtx and Edge? Got a magnetic sump plug and new filter already as i never bothered fitting them to my n/a lol Also just received ebc ultimax rear pads and i have ebc discs and greenstuff pads to go on the front, cant wait for the brakes to not feel so terrible!Never realised how tiny the rear pads are on these Love silver quad-lights Looks really smart mate! Cheers dude! Very smart car, look foward to seeing it again lol Cheers man, probably wont look that much different aha Edited May 29, 2015 by dan106
Amjad
Looking clean. I've usually used Mobil 1 10w40 and am happy with it. Going for a thicker grade to be safe on track though now I found the stock brake setup to be unbearable, swapped it to my NA and with greenstuff pads it suits that car. ST185s are a great budget upgrade and actually inspire confidence.
dan106
Cheers bro! I ended up ordering Castrol Edge 5w40 fully synthetic, can always add some thicker oil later aha Its got yellow stuff pads in it, but the discs have seen better days and they dont sound too healthy, always liked the greenstuff on my n/a so i should enjoy it on this too,
TrisK
5w40 edge is what I have in mine mate
dan106
So today me and the misses took a drive down to Harlow to see my good mate at Essex Tints to get the starbo done. I went for 35% on the rear three and 50% on the front two, nice light tints just to take the edge off the clear glass Looks so much better, and i feel alot more comfy and less exposed in it aha! He does a real good job so if any of you essex lot needs tints or wrapping tell him i sent you and youll get a good price. He also wrapped these as with the tinted windows they looked so bad! Hopefully doing the brakes tomorrow Edited May 30, 2015 by dan106

dan106
So i did get the brakes done today, and im glad i did aha. Put some brand new EBC Ultimax pads in the rear and I had EBC drilled and grooved discs with Greenstuff pads off of my old n/a so they went on the front, the rear calipers were pretty seized and the front sliders were very seized, free'd all that and copper greased everything, brakes feel amazing now! Looking nice man! Cheers fella Good job, got the same % on mine. Wrap is a nice touch I hate tints darker tbh, i just like it subtle, i was gonna paint them but my mate did it without me even asking This car is soooo nice man! The tints are good too! Very clean car! Seen a car that looks just like yours today in north wales haha Cheers bro! I got excited thinking i got spotted then saw North Wales lol
5T4R7ET N/A
Nice to see your back in a starlet dude Good progress already, this ep82 looks real clean.
dan106
So as it was finally a sunny day when i finished work i got some little bits done, firstly washed it as it was filthy from driving in the rain. Ive done over a thousand km's since i picked it up! But anyway, firstly I sorted out these horrible things Much better! Then i moved onto the calipers Fronts done And did the exhaust again while the back was in the air Rears done And some randoms Service and maybe new rad next, going to fit the coilys off my n/a to see if theyre alright. i think the fronts maybe gone though tbh... morgey
Looking good dude. You'll prob find the rear calipers will seize again, if thats the case change the rubber boots over the sliders for new ones and use silicon grease as the rubber absorbs normal stuff then swells and binds. dan106
Well i fitted my headunit into this the other day and found some real lovely wiring! Power for the boost gauge? No problem! They were just sitting in there, fell out so easily. Remote for the sub was literally just stuffed into a plug on the stereo loom. And i thought i was ghetto for twisting and taping till i can crimp em!Amazed it worked at all! But anyway, went to kwikfit to do the oil and filter, that hadnt been done in a while! filter was well stuck on and the oil was proper black! Nice and clean 5w40 Castrol edge in there now, with a new filter and magnetic sump plug, So while i was underneath it i had a look at what the exhaust was knocking on It doesnt even fit properly! No wonder the back box burns the bumper, the whole lot isnt long enough. adds to the list of why i really want a new system aha. Also fitted my bonnet raisers, I'm not sure if I like them yet, got no pictures either Gonna be taking of the front rota's soon to try and blow in the kerb mark, so itll be on odd rotas soon.Where do you recommend to get the new seals fromMorgey? I can here the rears binding a bit so I reckon the sliders hae already got stuck again aha Edited June 8, 2015 by dan106
dan106
Also, the gear change is really choppy and not very smooth, is this just a starlet thing because my n/a was the same but worse, I just lived with it, I remember reading somewhere its a bush or rubber or something that needs changing on the top of the gearbox?
Amjad
Metal bushes make a nice difference, change out the gearbox oil too easy job
dan106
Got the gearbox mount changed to the poly one off my old n/a Surprised at the difference its made, now not sure about doing the other two aha! Metal bushes make a nice difference, change out the gearbox oil too easy job Where would I get them from? Yeah its on my long arse list of things to do aha, important thing was the engine oil
