Hmm might give that a try, although I repainted my needles and don't know if they'll still light up as the paint that was on them looked like special reflective stuff. Also the bulbs for the indicators in our cars are the offset pin one's, mine were anyway?

260bhp and 200atw would mean a 30% loss through the transmission which is huge! Even 20% is quite high for a fwd and that would mean 240bhp for 200atw. 230bhp should be achievable on a properly setup hybrid and thats nigh on 200atw with normal transmission loss.

Well not all car's have a cat, pre 91 uk cars just get a non cattest and so do imports pre 95, but if you just mention its an import to the tester hopefully they'll just do the non cat test, all test stations test the same. -
Its all been covered before mate, just do a search and do some reading there's plenty of info on it all to clear your mind up. One thing though, 2 bar on a hybrid?! Erm no, it will kill itself!

Glanza's do, just for the front doors, not that you get a four door glanza.
-
Did you put new bulbs in when you fitted the dials and if so what ones? As my needles don't really light up at all anymore.

You should angle the "Sparky" writing the other way so it looks like its graffiti on the wall, would look cool that way.

Not a stupid question, no I didn't I had it in the car just incase though. I just told the tester since its an import it just requires a non cat test which he did and it passed no problem. -
Bleeding the brakes on these cars is a pain in the arse, I've done it numerous times and not got it perfect yet! However it is probably your problem. The basic procedure is: Get a friend to help and sit in the car, check the brake fluid level and make sure the system never runs dry, top as your doing the bleeding with fresh fluid. Start from the wheel furthest from the master cylinder and work closer, so passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front then driver front. Get your friend to pump the brake pedal ten times then hold the pedal down (bestto put a piece of wod under the pedal as it will fall to the floor when the bleeder is open and can damage the master cylinder seals), then crack open the bleeder screw (8mm spanner) and the fluid should spurt out, then close the screw and your friend can release the pedal. Ideally you should do this with a clear tight fitting hose over the bleeder screw so you can see the fluid coming out, then repeat the pumping and releasing until there are no air bubbles in the fluid and fresh fluid is flowing through if your changing it. Keep an eye on the fluid level in the cylinder and work your way around the car until done. Its straight forward enough but hard to get perfect.

Amazingly the car passed its mot today, just a few advisories on the brake lines and rear discs, despite the fact it was leaking oil, coolant and petrol this morning before the mot!. I sorted the coolant and fuel leak however the oil leak is now quite bad but I still think its just the sump needing resealed. The smoking has all stopped though and the oil is almost clear of the coolant but it'll get another change when the sump is re-sealed. I'll probably put the car back on the rolling road next week too and check the fuelling again aswell as getting another power figure to make sure all is ok... -

Cheers guys hope it goes ok too, mine was due and booked lie two days after the engine went pop. So it really needs to pass, my usual "friendly" mot'er was booked up too, so I hope this place is kind to me with the emissions etc -

Well I got the car out for its (very short) maiden voyage tonight. First thoughts - the engine runs really smoothly, the brakes really need bled, the clutch really needs bled and the clutch is quite aggressive, it just judders trying to pull off slowly. It also seems reluctant to go into gear sometimes but I hope that will go once the clutch is bled. The car started to smoke quite a bit once upto temperature though, which I think is still down to there being coolant in the oil (due to me getting the hoses on the throttle body the wrong way round when trying to start the car and spraying coolant into the cylinders ) so I need to change that again then hopefully the smoke will go. Also there is a slight oil leak but I think its just from the sump sealant so will get that resealed. I'll need to get the clutch and brakes bled before tomorrow as the car's getting mot'd in the morning which I'm not too confident about.... -

Yeah I took the girlfriend down to alton a couple of years ago, we absolutely loved it,long drive in the glanza though although the roads around it are fun. Rita was good for the speed but nemesis was still the best, went on it a few times. It was good when we went as we hardly had to que for anything, I hate it when you have to wait ages to get a ride (teehee).

Good luck tomorrow mate, I'm sure you'll do fine as I already said.

Cheers guys, its an easy mistake to make, I'd even told my mate about before it and still managed to do it. Lesson learnt to double check everything! However once the smoke cleared the engine was running really smooth, I should have it back on the road tomorrow, then have an mot to pass on thursday.... -

Yeee ha its alive!!!!!! Well I've had fun today! With the battery charged up i tried starting it again and it still wouldn't turn over, I changed the plugs then it turned over briefly but died straight away, then I noticed a coolant leak.... from the exhaust mani. I'd properly flooded the engine.... becuase I'man idiot and managed to get two of the water hoses on the inlet mani the wrong way round when I sorted the leak yesterday, hence water was being pushed into the cylinders! So I swapped the hoses around to the right way and witha bit of a cough and splutter the car finally started, its runing smoothly albeit very smokey! I need to change the oil now after my water injection mistake and still need to do a couple of cv boots then it will be ready to go back on the road. I'm a bit happier now partly down to all the exhaust gas I've inhaled. ;) -
where does your temp needle sit?
WallaceGlanza replied to scutch0's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
Yeah thats normal. if you just use water it will freeze in winter, not really that good! You can get proper toyota "for life" coolant which is red or the similar stuff from halfords. -

Cheers guys, well I got the inlet mani and all the crap in the way back off so I could sort the coolant leak. With that sorted and the battery charged I managed to start the car... just, for all of a few seconds before it stalled, then the battery didn't have enough charge to start it again. I'm leaving the battery to charge overnight and hopefully it will run ok tomorow although I'm slightly worried there's something amiss since it didn't want to even idle. I still need to fit the passenger side cv boots and put the brakes all back together then it will be ready to run.... -

Well I got the engine finally in last night just after midnight without too much trouble (bar my mate smashing the garage window ), and I've been at it all day today fitting everything back on it. I've just finished tried to start it and it won't start, then I looked about and there's also a coolant leak which I'll need to take the inlet mani off to get too. I'm really at my wits end with the car now and really feel like just getting rid, I've had so many troubles spent over 10 grand on it with fuck all to show and now after working on it for a fe days solid the thing still won't work. I'm knackered, dirty soaked in coolant really pissed off and demoralised and there's not even a beer in the fridge. ;) Here's how the cunt is now though; -

Maybe too much! It'll be like learning to drive again and being hopeless at hillstarts etc! Also we did decide it was the same as the 309 back in february when I bought it! -

So near yet so far today! The engine could've been in by now if it wasn't for the pain in the arse driveshafts! I've managed to remove both of them with the help of a mate so I could fit new cv boots but now the buggers will not go back in. Its so annoying as the engnie is all ready to drop back in, I'll be having another bash at it (literally) tomorrow. I also found this when I removed the old engine today: Looks like an exedy 35% uprated jobby to me, so explains why the clutch never slipped except on the strip, although it was quite worn: I'm sure the new blitz clutch will provide a bit more bite though, if I ever get the engine in that is!
