From Quaife: what's the driving milage before a service/maintenance is recommended? We recommend that the gearboxes are serviced the equilivant of a 24 hour race. Most engines need a rebuild after a 24 hour race to give you an idea. if so, what does this maintenance involve parts and cost wise? This would depend on what electronics are used for flat shift etc. It will also depend on how hard the driver is on the box does this box come with some kind of milage warrantee? No as this is a motorsport product no warranty is given. If there is a build error or a manufacturing error then we will obviously cover the parts only. Just 6 speed Sacha Thanks Mike

haha, for competition use it's going to be an excellent feature for certain! You would receive the gearset, with shifter and the gear indicator is optional. It fits in existing standard cases, has its own end cover (supplied) to house 5th & 6th gears. It would need x2 bearings to suit the C64 along with reverse lever arm, the rest are C52 items. All parts are available yes, we can install in house. For anymore information either give me a call on 01925 822 266 or email me at mike@tuningdevelopments.co.uk Thanks Mike

You can indeed buy direct Phil, or via ourselves or any other Quaife distributor. We'll be running one in our GT in the coming months. It is something that the larger power Starlet builds are going to need ideally for the future. Anyone wanting a quote including installation please feel free to give me a shout. Thanks Mike

http://www.tuningdevelopments.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=70&products_id=1334 Controls boost like the old DSBC Dual Solenoid units, and is a fraction of the cost of current new Blitz units, and even cheaper than some second hand units.

Chops, I've dropped you a PM with the calibration sequence, sounds like your unit needs calibration and hopefully you're then sorted. I can't see a record for you buying it from us, but feel free to give me a call if you have any further issues. These are fantastic controllers, far superior over many other controllers out there. I use one myself and we've done lots and lots of dyno testing with them, the repeat-ability of the unit rivals that of the old Blitz DSBC which is also a great controller, just very expensive at present. We're working with Will to sort his issue out at the moment Thanks Mike Jones Tuning Developments Ltd

My Tuning Developments Forged NIGHTMARE and The End of the GT
Mike@TD.co.uk replied to Starbuck's topic in Negative Feedback
Hello, Your engine was the first time, and last time we will use the seals in question. We have since removed them from other engines with the same symptoms, those seals were not installed by us. There was no damage to the valve stem seals when installed on your engine, since installing genuine Toyota seals, I believe you have had no further issues. Regarding cost, you did not pay £360.00 to repair, far from it. After removing the cost of other parts which were fitted as requested by you, it leaves a balance of less than £150.00 to repair an issue that wasn't our fault. This doesn't even cover the cost of the headgasket and valve stem seals. Regarding your map, there was nothing wrong with your car, see the boost vs fueling curve below for your reference: Thanks Mike Jones Tuning Developments Ltd- 96 replies

My Tuning Developments Forged NIGHTMARE and The End of the GT
Mike@TD.co.uk replied to Starbuck's topic in Negative Feedback
Hello, We covered all transport costs to get your car back to us, and resolved the issue you had. Your car ran fantastic and made excellent power also. Too much for an automatic in our opinion, but it went well regardless. Thanks Mike Jones Tuning Developments Ltd- 96 replies

My Tuning Developments Forged NIGHTMARE and The End of the GT
Mike@TD.co.uk replied to Starbuck's topic in Negative Feedback
Hello, When the car first returned it had excessive play in the turbo, as agreed we kept hold of the car and proceeded to strip it down, finding the turbo to be damaged along with other parts. The cause of this was later found to be your rocker cover which had been sandblasted and although cleaned out prior to install, had managed to dislodge more foreign objects into the engine after being ran for several hours. This rocker cover was not made, nor supplied by us. Despite this we replaced the damaged engine parts and turbo under our warranty, which included a full block strip down and clean, with no cost to yourself. You sourced another rocker cover and we refused to use the original rocker cover again that had caused these issues. You collected the car and used it for 6 months before reporting another issue, which upon inspection was found to be foreign objects in the oil. The engine parts were referred to outside specialists who confirmed this, tolerances on the crankshaft were checked and confirmed that where scoring hadn’t taken place, these were correct for the application. We have no control over an engine once it leaves our premises; maintenance and usage are things we cannot do anything about. The first issue was indicated very early on, and then rectified. It is unfortunate that you again ran into issues but these are not issues caused by us, we did try to accommodate you with a solution but you politely declined and took your own steps from that point. We then proceeded to store your car for you whilst you did this for a lengthy period before you decided to take it back to break it. We have many many engines running across the board, not just Starlets, running faultlessly, we still keep in contact with the current owner of the first engine that was built and recently did more upgrades on that car 6 years later making it very nearly 300bhp. Still runs like a dream. I won’t get into an online argument, just putting our view across which is very often ignored and not considered. Thanks Mike Jones Tuning Developments Ltd- 96 replies

We did. It is faulty, intermittently it would control boost. Wiring was good, plumbing was correct and the vacuum lines were free (ie not trapped) and not split. We reused the vacuum lines with the new controller and all works as it should do. From the inspection we did, the unit was sometimes triggering the solenoid into life, and sometimes it wouldn't, not ideal by any means. Resulting in huge boost spikes when steady-stating on the dyno. This is not uncommon with these controllers. The Blitz DSBC is much more robust unit. Cheers Mike Jones Tuning Developments Ltd
