As far as a know nobody has changed the 5th gear in a 4paw box. It would certainly be a good mod but all we need is the correct info Ive not looked into it at all myself just because my build isnt at that stage yet but i dont like the idea of topping out at 135 :/
-
Should have really been checked when the clutch was fitted.
-
To see if the crank seal is leaking the gearbox has to be removed, so does the clutch & flywheel assembly.
-
The only way to do the rear crank seal is to remove the box, these engines are pretty bad for leaky crank seals so it'll most likely be that. Can be severe in the way of causing premature wear on a brand new expensive clutch. If you can select all gears at speed id say the box is fine, the syncros normally go first, could try changing the oil and see if it sorts the noise out but i suspect the release bearing is making the noise, any non Toyota OEM bearing is shite.
-
Oil inside the clutch housing is when the rear crank seal has failed, this pisses oil all over the clutch and causes it to slip. The metallic noise sounds like a release bearing noise. How new is the gearbox oil and do you have a LSD ?

77 quid for the exhaust mani is pretty decent, but the inlets can be picked up for less than 40.
-
Inlet or exhaust ?

That bit where the wee lass is eating like fuck and then the mad thing inside her is shouting AM STILL HUNGRY haha belter.

Yeah Coley am 99% sure it will. That is odd Colin what year was it ? My Gen1 JDM engine is a 1995 in an EP85.
-
I think its only the late spec JDM engine that had the knock sensor, along with the DIS, green injectors, crank sensor etc. The 99 spec Carat i had used all this. The Gen1 JDM engine i have has a threaded hole for a knock sensor, but it didnt actually use one.

Can see it used to be red.

Haha get the chalk out !! Welcome in buddy

Starlets are a great little car, we all know that, but as a family car they are far from ideal / safe. In the ideal world have the Starlet as a toy / project / weekend car etc. and get something more sensible for the family. Owning 2 cars isnt really as expensive as most people make out.
-
They dont all have coilpacks noel. Only the late spec ones.
-
If you buy a UK 4EFE engine and drop that in then yeah it will work fine, just use the manifolds etc from the JDM engine and bolt them to the UK engine.
-
Thats a braided oil feed youve bought which you already have !! You'll be able to sell it on though no worries Its an oil return you're looking for, a silicone one is best. And yeah just under the timing belt its got a bit oily leak there
-
Theres a plug which goes into the AC pipe near the passenger headlight area. Plug that back in or bridge the two pins on the plug. Does the fan run constantly ?
-
Also looks like the front crank seal is leaking, very common on these engines.
-
The oil return is what looks like is leaking, you already have a braided oil feed so thats all good There should be a rubber grommet on the radiator drain plug, check its not perished and obviously check its tight aswell.
