Sump pans are a wanker!



Biggest mistakes people make:



1, de-grease the sump pan Lip and the lip of the block (mating surfaces) as sealant wont stick to oil.


2, don't overtighten the sump bolts, this bends the sump pan lip and pushes the sealant out the way


3, don't give the sealant long enough to set, Id leave it 24hours tbh.


4, make sure the sump pan lip is straight and flat, they bend if overtightened.



Not saying you did any of these, but these engiens are a cunt for leaky sumps!

cheers dude. think it was a combo of its first run last year, and then being left to sit, has caused it.



she's getting resealed using some industrial stuff from ECC on Friday nite, then being left til sunday afternoon to be re-tested. should be a long enough cure period.

i'm with you on that, leaks drive me mad. my brother has a GT that has never leaked a single drop ever, yet for some reason this last bloody engine i've picked up is a leaky prick, between the cracked oil pump and now this debacle. not impressed with what should have been a simple swap and fix job.

Update



Geographical Relocation - Successful!



Joel removed the sump and resealed it on Friday nite, let it sit all weekend, and this afternoon filled the oil and ticked it over for 20 minutes...NO LEAK!



so, went up for the run down home. she behaved really well, brakes came back to life in no time, they'll never stop you on a pin head, but EP brakes never will. pulled in after ~20 miles for a check, spotted one small drop of oil, emanating from the oil filter. Joel gave it a hand tighten, and off we set again, this time with some boost, took her nice and handy for another few miles, then took the back road from Ballyclare towards Ballymena...on full chat...and by fuck does it pull like a fucking train! straight up to 0.9 bar and held it with no problems, responded really well, boost is as it always was with the K1, strong and consistent. Engine temp and EGT were all normal.



cruised her down in home after a blast along the Ballymena - Larne line, and got her tucked into her new home with the aid of some blocks of wood. once in the garage, another oil check revealed another single drop, still from the filter, which stopped pretty much immediately once the engine was turned off, and the level on the dip stick hadnt moved a bit then entire trip.



So, we probably covered somewhere close to 40 miles or so today, and all the signs were positive. engine, turbo, clutch and gearbag all feel spot on.



we've generated a bit of a list of things that need sorted before MOT can be considered, but at least its now down where I can see it and fettle at it!!!!

cheers gents. was good to feel all those Blitz parts working in harmony, first time its ran with the filter on too. think its due a Blitz decal somewhere now lol.



Yesterday served as a bit of a shakedown for her, especially on the more spirited points on the journey down the road. I had horrible notions that the suspension would have died sitting so long, or that the chassis or fuel tank would be away. But Joel and I got a good look underneath on the Friday night whilst it was up on the ramp, and other than the usual amount of surface rust, there was nothing overly worrying. we also discussed, once its back on the road, we'll give the underside a rub down on the worst bits and then waxoil the whole underside.



my first job is going to be dragging it out for a wash, then a full detarr, SRP and a couple of coats of wax. yes the paintwork isnt immaculate anymore, but i can still make the rest of it shiny lol. i'll also be fitting the Ultra spark leads, courtesy of Mark, and of course the Rescueman. Engine bay will receive a bit of a tidy and clean, think its time she got a new / painted rocker cover. Calipers will also see some paint, and then eventually we'll start looking at MOT prep down the road, but there's a few tasks needed for that, the most awkward of which will be a better radiator bracket to hold the civic rad in place. that's gonna be fun to sort.



also got to get me an assortment of rubber grommets for various applications, particularly to surround the holes where the gauge wires disappear into the dash, as i made a real bollox of drilling one of them, so time to tidy those up slightly.

also going to try and replace alot of the nuts and bolts in the bay, some of them are fairly rusted now.



needs a new battery clamp, including the upright lengths of metal with the threads at the top, as mine are fooked.

Update



Now rocking some red Ultra spark plug leads and king lead. gave them a clean with some tar remover before hand so they're nice and shiny.



shortened the BOV vacuum pipe and the PCV to catch can pipe, bit tidier now.



also replaced about 6 small jubilee clips for newer shiny ones.



next up is mounting the rescueman once i settle on a location.



started it up too, oil weep is still there, not sure where its coming from if its above the sump lip or not, didnt look like the filter today. needs further investigation i think. but that'll keep while i tinker at shizzle.

Machine so it fits and then fit adjustable CJ cam pulley - Cancelled as I hear they are breaking down / damaging the belts, so fuck that

Catch can needs emptied and wire wool replaced
Oil filter relocator needs fitted and new bungs/sensors bought
Crank shaft oil seal - done

Repaint all 4 calipers
Fit harness crutch straps
Mount and wire in all Apexi gauges - Vacuum gauge mounted and wires run
Weld holes in spare wheel well
Paint floor and internal roof
Tires for Volks
New bonnet
Fit anti-lift kit
Fit Din blanking plate
Obtain and fit door cards - done
Wax oil
Air fuel ratio gauge
Wideband gauge
Find and fit an Apexi EL1 60mm oil pressure gauge
Front ARB
Shorten the intercooler piping

Tidy engine bay - started

Fit powder coated inlet manifold

was funny dude, was out cleaning and fitting the leads and the Mrs came out for a gander, opens it up, comments on how she prefers it with the front door cards refitted, then commented she'd forgotten how loud it was, then says "we'll have to see about getting it back on the road once the wedding is over"...THAT'S MY GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah baby!!



spent some time with 3 MINT Glanzas today and definitely made me want her back on the road for such convoys!

lol very true Malcolm, i'll try and get some shitty blackberry pics as I start tinkering more.

thinking of getting my rocker cover powder coated anthracite to match the new intake mani, anyone got any recommendations for where to go????

Avoid Powder Coating Phil... For parts that can get to the inside of the engine...

You get any sand or beads stuck in that baffle under the rocker cover and they get into engine your stuffed!

Good to see progress as always, pics are needed though, is that hammer fitted yet? :p
