shadow Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 (edited) you could get 1.5 diesel starlets so ya could get an engine out of one of them...there is a genuine gt turbo here in ireland running one of those diesel engines Edited October 18, 2012 by vvti Quote
daniel_g Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 ?!?If you can find a diesel starlet, just buy that. NP90 i think. Quote
turbo Grant Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Most 4 cylinder diesels would fit in if you have enough cash to throw at it. If you had a vag 2.0 tdi it would smoke most cars on the road Quote
Amjad Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 ohh my god!! someone put that engine in a GT? Quote
iamlegend Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 ohh my god!! someone put that engine in a GT? was thinking the exact same thing lol Quote
dangeestarlet Posted October 19, 2012 Author Posted October 19, 2012 hmm, i cant find a diesel starlet for sale, i was thinking like a 306 d turbo engine or something along those lines as you dont need much wiring no ecu etc Quote

H_D Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Y wud u ruin a gt turbo??Cuz its better than ruining a glanza...lol Quote
ste91 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) What engines in that? That can't be an N series lol.Diesels are amazing. I used to hate diesel but once you drive one you realise they are completely different to petrol but can still be a lot of fun.Shitty little 1.5's aren't much good and non turbos are totally gutless. Tuned diesels can be a lot of fun though, bags of torque from 2k rpm and lots of smoke. If you do get a diesel Starlet make sure it's a turbo one, or you can source the extra bits from a turbo engine. A bit of fiddling with the fuel pump and a slight increase in boost makes them much better to drive. And they can actually be more fuel efficient with a mild tune, you don't need to use as many revs as you're making more torque at lower RPM. Edited October 19, 2012 by ste91 Quote
morgey Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I dont know i just remember seeing it before. Diesels are coming about but until they are revving to 8.5k on itb's im not going to be interested Quote
ste91 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) Diesels are already good they wont ever rev like a petrol but there are plenty of high powered ones about. Old Merc 3.0's chuck out 400+ bhp with a bit of fiddling and a bigger turbo.99% of diesels now are using VNT's though, makes them feel a lot more pokey, no lag but not restricted at the top end of the revs. (Google variable nozzle turbines or variable geometry turbines for those who haven't seen them). The problem with modern diesels is the fucking emission regulations with DPF filters and all that bullshit. But they're easy to tune for good power gains, and diesels aren't fussy when it comes to air-fuel ratios like petrols are. Engines with mechanical pumps can gain a fair bit by just turning a few screws and you can visibly see if it's over fuelling too much. Edited October 19, 2012 by ste91 Quote
