The second pipe goes to the solenoid near the intake. This is the solenoid for the 'Hi/Lo' boost button.

I've seen/used worse. If you clean that up with a polishing mop then I bet that will look like new. Then as people say, check to see if it's within tolerances. If it is then it's good to go

so what are peoples plans for the summer ?
Calum122 replied to aleximport25's topic in Lifestyle General
Same really, hopefully Japfest, not confirmed yet. Castle combe isn't very far so will probably go. -
I doubt that, given the DT is 15 and they are much faster. I always say to people, where did you measure that? The fuel tap. Doesn't matter, I'm a two stroke snob! I think the R125's are GORGEOUS! Love the allow wheel design, shame they're quite skinny. But they are lovely. The plastic colours are gorgeous and they are superb spec. I think dual pot calipers on the front? I'm running RS brakes on my bike which means 4 pot front and dual rears. But the stocks are single pots. Plus isn't the R125 USD? But great bikes, just the minimum should be a 250 four stroke or 125 two stroke for CBT.

If you're going to go to a big bike straight after then a CG125 is more than enough. Cheap, reliable and lets you get the basics down. My old Aprilia RS125 >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GobIl4e-mU8 That thing would be good for over a ton. Topped out about 110 at 13500 rpm. And it got there ridiculously fast, for a 125. Sorry but today's 125's are pathetic. IMO, like todays cars. The Starlets of yesterday are far superior to the Yaris's today. That's my opinion though. Whilst the YZF125 looks the dogs dangleys, they're just gutless with about 11 bhp. That said, perfect bikes to just learn to ride for a test. Perfect bikes. But the Aprilia rs125 has enough power, tuning prospects (they even use them in MotoGP 125's back in the day for the superteen class). As for reliability....They're perfectly reliable. Again it's the same with ANY high performance machine, it requires miticulous maintenance. And maintenance is the key. A piston change is simply maintenance and is about an hours work on a two stroke. No valves, no real hard tolerances. The only tolerance I have EVER measured in building a two stroke engine is piston ring end gap. The rest is just bolted on. I do have the cranks professionally trued and rebuilt...at a cost of £30. A full engine rebuild on a two stroke, with the engine on your table, takes only a few hours. With no need for measuring. The bottom ends are good for 30K miles, and a weekend toy will never reach that. The top ends I'd do every 10K miles and is an hours job, engine in the frame. So reliablity...is never a factor. Because they need piston changes regulary, they are cheap to rebuild. With a quality piston kit costing you £40 and a forged piston £90 they are cheap fun. But I agree, if you just want a fun bike to move on from then the R125 is a good learner bike. But an Aprilia RS125 has enough power for the weekend to last you for years. And if you are only using for weekends then a proper rebuild will out last your time on that bike. I have owned 2 Aprilias and never had them failed, and my DT is ported, tuned and ridden daily, has never failed. My next bike will be an EXC 300 or something i similar.

That's brilliant. A little late to the party on this one but I do have a soft spot for the kei class cars -

Aye, next level fun. Different league of bikes though. They're great bikes, but ultimately gutless. As much as I love my 125, they are gutless in comparison. The 125 4 stroke scene is even worse. I agree with lowering the law when there were bikes like 250 smokers you could ride without a license. Since I know of a 250 2 stroke that measures 70 bhp at the crank, that's more than a 400 sports bike four stroke! 1998 Yamaha TZ250. Savage machines. Although they only have about 1000 rpms of usable power and it's about 12'000 rpms high, so not what you would call practical. I would be more terrified to ride one of those than a predictable R1. If you've never ridden before in your life, then 6 months, a year, on a 125 is really good. So many people die on motorbikes each year which is why I always insist on some practice on a gutless bike. I might get a bigger bike one day. But ultimately, for summer riding, commuting and general hooning, the DT is okay. Wouldn't mind an EXC 300. Might start saving when this Starlet is finished pulling my pants down!

Lol. It's different that's for sure

I'm going to buy the collection on Blu Ray when the 7th is released. I went to the cinema thursday, the night before it was released, and watched 6 then 7 at 00:00 release day. It's no longer about street racing. Some fun facts that make me appreciate 7 even more though. The scene where they ditch the cars out the plane, was real. They actually done that. In fact a few of the crazy stunts were actually real. So in terms of achievements, it's good Just no a F&F IMO

Just seen this for the first time now. But apparently it was on the DVD which I never owned. But it explains what happens at the end of the 1st one and the beginning of the second one. Some of the comments are funny as well. https://youtu.be/NmZ5JrO4xdU >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmZ5JrO4xdU

Can't believe how much progress is made in such a short space of time. -
That's wrapped? Very good mate. I know it's only a photo but still looks good. I'd pay that for a wrap, at least when you get bored you can peel it off

That is an interesting choice of colour for a mx5.

Yeah, wasn't too impressed with the TZR gearing so I will be switching back to a standard DTR box. >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t4iepv0l1Q For a DTR it is fairly quick, but I've ridden quicker. But, with me having a license, if I wanted something savage I would go out and buy one. It was just a fun project, nothing too serious. So I hear, the TDR 250 is one THE BEST handling bikes ever made. There is a guy on the forum I moderate who absolutely swears by it. He has had many many bikes, maybe in the hundreds, mostly DT's, but he swears that he will never sell his TDR 250. So by the sounds of things, a Bike worth having. And the 250's are getting dearer and dearer and will become a classic bike. So it's a sound investment. Never seen, from a quick google search, what A BEAST!

Yes there are. Aprilia rs125 rims and brakes. Yamaha 450f forks. Yamaha TZR125R 4DL engine with full standalone ecu and power commander. Along with fat bars and asv levers. Shes had a lot spent on her. Yeah i love the dtx wheels. They are sick. I just wanted something different from anyone else, until Reiju released a bike with my wheels as factory! Annoyed much. I know what you mean about idiots on the road. But I commute as its easier and cheaper. And ride slowly and defensive. But i agree. It's scary. Nice slow bike like the dtr fulfils the bike craving. I've never been about speed, just the rush of acceleration.

Haha! Good lad. What a beaut. Now that's a smoker! Yeah, being pedantic as usual :/ thanks though A lot of work has gone into it so it's nice to get recognition. It's currently in two small boxes awaiting respray and new graphics and colours. I'm thinking Candy red wheels

Aye sure. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TMRXG7feoEY Not true actually, whilst they aren't mass produced for motorbikes they are still used in jetski and 1200cc two strokes have not yet been replaced. Due to the fact they can be mounted in all sorts of places, without the need for a fuel pump makes them Ideal. But I'm a modder so the fact they aren't around anymore doesn't bother me. This would be my 'wet dream'. http://www.moto.it/static/upl/yam/0071/yamaha-rz500-special---01.jpg Sorry I'm on my phone. And thank you. Although I don't think it's a dt anymore. So much blood sweat and tears have gone into building it, even the engine is different. It's a hybrid of all sorts. Love it though, amazing ride.

Literally, if you've never ridden before then it's well worth getting a 125 for a years riding experience before you jump onto a bigger bike. I've been riding years, didn't bother with lessons for my test since I've been riding on the road since I was 16. YouTube is a wonderful thing. Someone done Mod1 with a GoPro and it's identical to the real thing. Then Mod2 is literally what you would have been doing for ithat year anyway. Save £££ by just having a year on a bike first and jumping straight into the tests. As people have said a good Motorbike theory app for the mobile is all you will need. I done my license a few years ago, but I stil just hoon around a 125 two stroke. Since two strokes put out more power by at least 33% of the same displacement 4 stroke it's not a bad way to go. And that's stock. So I've tuned mine and it's definitely smiles when I go out on it. Also two strokes are naturally super charged Pressure waves in the exhaust system, forces more fuel and air back into the combustion chamber at certain RPMS Also it's not about displacement, Yamaha do a 500cc that would blow most R1's out of the water, lighter, faster and handle better But of course, two stroke. I digress. Lessons only go so far, they can't teach you experience, that comes with time. A years riding allows you to gauge whether 1. you actually want to ride a motorbike (it's not for everyone, even those who think they do) and 2. Will you actually ride the thing. A lot of my mates have bikes, never ride them, simply don't have the time. You will be better prepared in the long run and you will save a lot of money on lessons and actually be out riding.

Yeah I just read that when ordering some new ones LMAO! Live and learn ey! Great so they all need doing. I do make myself laugh. Anyway, thanks lads.

Quick question...bad idea if I go Stainless Steel exhaust studs?
-
It's okay, I'll grab some when I do I get round to sorting it all out. Won't be for a few months yet.
-
Aye, I would have but the stock nuts have just completely rounded off so I was just rebuild clean with new bolts.
