Hi, I'm getting ever closer to starting this thing now. Engine is all back together, and with a bit of luck it's all been done correctly. I've turned the over by hand and it seems to be fine. A little stiff where the valves are reaching their peak, is that normal? but fairly free everywhere else. I'm scratching my head at this one why the car won't start though. It turns over, but at maybe 75% or 50% of what my brothers mk3 does. I've removed all plugs and they are all sparking. And it's definitely getting fuel. So, I'm stumped, fuel, ignition, but no bang? What gives. Consequently the engine is flooded now so I will have to wait and give it another go. Have tried giving the car a bump, no joy. It burbles, as you would expect any car being pushed, but no ignition, not even a hint of the car starting. The car has an alarm, and you can't arm it whilst the turbo timer is on so presumably immobiliser. But then I would have thought it wouldn't even spark. The wiring in the car is in the process of some upgrades here and there. I swear I've had the car running before without the interior in, but I'll throw that in the mix anyway. The dash is in. Just the centre console removed. So the climate control stuff is gone. And I've spured off the side lights for indiglos. Lights on the dash come on. Side lights work. No indicators (because of the hazard switch being removed). Other than that, I've had it running before with no centre console. I've recently polibushed the car, so maybe I've removed a earthing somewhere. I've replaced the earths. Ideas welcome. So close to driving this.

Good on you I say. Doing a brilliant job! Keep it up. Good that you're fixing this instead of breaking it! -

Newbie starlet owner 2015 - opinions on waterless wash?
Calum122 replied to tommyn1991's topic in EP91 Glanza Progress Blogs
It's possible to be the radiator cap mate. I've had this exact problem recently mate. For me, added pressure was causing water to expand into the water bottle overflow. I tried a few things, and was head gasket. But it's a really easy job to do on the drive with minimum of tools. It takes only a few hours, including the removal of intercooler pipes and what not. But if the rad cap is broken, it won't allow water to go into the overflow. I bought a dog of a starlet and was abused. Simarly, I was finding little, or no, maintenance for it in the past 3 years. Since it's been up to me to sort out. If it's not the radiator cap, then it'll be the head gasket. Don't despair though. Easy job. Just wans some £££ and time. Can do some serious maintenance on it like, valve lapping, valve stem seals, Water pump, cam belt, tensioners, poly bush engine mounts and nice blue ASH silicon hoses on the rebuild. Or just do the basics. SKim and a head gasket. I'd say, if the heads coming off, do as much as you can. Lapping valves gives you more bhp. Valve stem seals might as well get done. It's easy enough for you to do yourself. Or cheap enough to just let a garage do. Either way, lots of information on here to help you. Hopefully it's just the rad cap. But as said, I bought a neglected starlet and that's my experience. Hopefully yours will be different. -
:/ Shame I paid dollar for mine Put it this way. It won't go in the bin or scrappy. Is collection okay?
-
I think they are Ollie. PM me a price. You're local so if my brother wants one we can come and collect? At least then he'll bring his car so we can see if they are the same? As said I know he said he wanted one. Just whether he actually gets one or not. But I can only ask...
-
Grrr! Someones pride and joy. How hard is it to understand??? Scum
-
Damn I want a decent rx7. Well decent body wise. Engine I want to build. One day...hopefully.
-
I'm sorted now. But pm me. A price cause I know my brother is after one so I'll forward it onto him. No promises just that he said he wanted one so I can point him in your direction if this is still the case.
-
I have done this on my EP82 with no problems quite recenty. So if everything is plugged in correctly then ther eshould not be any problems. I definitely did not have an earth wire. Well infact I was just using Indiglos.

Awww no! Glad you're getting on te case though. Looks sweet.

Turbo intake - mesh or air filter?
Calum122 replied to scottieboi94's topic in Intake, Turbo & Exhaust
I never understood the risks of running meshed. It seemed like too little a gain. When I picked my car up it had no filter, no idea how long it was like that for. But I agree, LOUD AS FOOK! I was going to concur on the cold air intake. Surely that cold air would get hot regardless and as people said, it's the job of the intercooler to cool it. -
To be fair, well said. I wasn't convinced that that was the appropriate way for it to be setup. And again, I'm glad I asked.

Although just reread his message and....I don't agree with the final statement http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/91758-hks-actuator-with-standard-lowhigh-buton/?hl=solenoid#entry1096056 Brags about hitting fuel cut? Sorry but I was under the impression Fuel cut was deadly for an engine?
-
See that's not what I read but please go ahead and confirm. I don't understand how it would work, but another member was adamant that that was how he had his setup. Pipe from Actuator T-Piece. One half to the solenoid and then vent to atmosphere. And the other to the turbo. Doesn't make sense to me and I'm sure that would do naff all but cause boost creep!
-
Aye, which is why people say vent to atmosphere. But it was just incase you were wondering why.
-
Yeah fair enough. I'm going to reinstall it and then leave it on Hi anyway, it's just nice to know it works. But you've answered the question beautifully though so thanks
-
But that's what I'm saying though. Why remove it? If it doesn't weigh anything. It's no hardship leaving it in. And you keep the OEM button installed. I'm not arguing, I'm glad that's what you've said. It just doesn't make sense as to why you would remove funcitonality that isn't adverse to performance.

Above better advice lol

I like Shaun. My Fav (apart from 1) is Tokyo Drift. I know it's utter bollox. But it's Jap thru and thru. Apart from the end. But the cars are better in that one, than the rest put together. IMO. It's a good film, in its own right. Otherwise meh. Still seen it opening night, and again later.

Hi there. I was just wondering why so many people are keen to remove the Hi/Lo boost button from their cars? I understand that if you want to run serious boost, from a standalone EBC or MBC then yeah fine. But my car for example. It's fairly stock. I Don't understand why it was removed? It's got a HKS actuator on it. So surely, set the boost pressure the actuator is going to operate at, which will be your 'lo', then have the solenoid restricting air flow causing it to go into 'Hi'. Am I missing something? Why omit this feature? It's not like you're saving any weight. Starlet GT Turbo MK3. I'm aware the glanzas restrict boost in 1st and 2nd. Personally, that's for a reason. I know that people battering their gearboxes in the first few gears will munch the box.
