Glanza Shopping Common problems? Things to look out for?
AdamB replied to AaronGlanza's topic in Lifestyle General
I would deffo be doing a compression test, the standard engines are so prone and you will end up with a big repair bill if it goes wrong. -
Glanza, CT9, JAM ecu = way too rich on full boost
AdamB replied to whitestar's topic in Ignition & Fueling
Correct, a FPR is just a fixed rate type although adjustable ones are available. A RRFPR will rise will boost and lower with vacuum. Depends what your tuner prefers really, its much more accurate to get a good linear torque curve with a fixed FPR, I think anyway others will have their own opinion. -
Looking For Some Thoughts... Possibly a JAM Hybrid CT9 Turbo! :)

It's just got the wrong compressor wheel/compressor housing on it. -
Cambelt/Interface or Non-Interface Engine.

You'll soon know if anything has happened. Put a new belt on, time it up and rotate the engine, if you don't hear no funny noises then happy days -
I can tell you for sure. You have a cylinder sealing problem. If a wet test doesn't bring the pressure up then there is a problem with that cylinder. Whether it is a snapped ring, rings in the wrong position, or the ringlands have cracked there is deffo a problem there internally.

Of course it can, you will need to swap all the sensors though as Jay will explain

Do seem cheap, but everyone had to start somewhere right? The thing that gets me though is that they haven't stated if they have gone through any hardening processes or have been shot peened, which for me is essential.

What rods will you be getting? As none of the off the shelf items for the E series engines offer them. Carillo are the only company I know of which offer them as an extra. If your looking to upgrade in the future I would deffo recommend getting solid lifters. Use the ones from the Yaris as they are a direct fit (get the largest thickness), then all you need is to either have the valve stem machined down, have the lifter machined or a combination of both to get your desired valve clearence.

That would be down to your tuner to decide. Assuming you are running some form of programmable engine management system? I would expect so with that sort of boost pressure.

Give Tim@ TB Developments a ring mate, he'll look at it for you. He's only round the corner in Kidderminster and is a Toyota specialist. Tell him Adam sent you 07779 415207

Manual and automatic engine difference?
AdamB replied to EPnick22's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
Thought they had a lower rev limit slightly? I see they have different ecu's so thought there would be a difference. -
Looks spot on!

Cant rev as high or be put in as much stress -
From what I've heard the oil pressure thing is a bit of a myth. Every engine will suffer oil pressure problems if it isn't built correctly. Run which ever sump you want, you can always increase the oil pressure by putting a shim in the relief valve in the block. Oil squirters will be pointless and not needed if they are built into the rods, imo this would be a far better option as it could save ruining a rare 5E block! Would you see any benefit, who knows its hard to tell, the theory is there, but no ones ever tested it or done back to back so pretty much inconclusive. What turbo are y

Looking good mate. Who did the flocking?

Just read the whole thread mate. What a credit to you it is, been a long time and its good to still see the enthusiasm shining through. The TD12 turbo setup really seems to suit it with very little lag and having a great linear response. -
Grant would be the best person I think. You could locate the pump in the arch lining.

Pick up a good working ct9 for about 60 quid mate. Won't take more than an hour to fit, some of the cat bolts are a bastard to get to but thats about as hard as it gets. Don't let it put you off

Same here mate, although I do think this car does it justice. It would look really out of place on a standard body starlet I reckon. -
I do like the Tom's but think its been well over done. Although have to say out of all the sideskirts I think Tom's look and mate up with all sorts of combinations the best. I think for me I would have to choose : Doobie front lip Tom's sideskirts Livesports rear lip HRF spoiler (rare as rocking horse shit so a livesports would have to be the next best thing) Possibly some Zep fenders as well.
-
Maybe try someone like Sumo Power or NewEra? Although can't imagine it would be cheap.
-
Its just because its essentially on the overun, every car will do that if its running rich.

Turbo on a n/a engine? Can it be done?
