I moved out for 4 years but had to move back because me and the girlfriend split up. I had a 1bedroom flat with 1 parking space and paid £700 PCM private renting + bills on top. She earned £1100 a month after tax and I earned around £900 a month after tax and I was at uni full time as well. It is epic to move out, so much independence and you can do what you want when you want, personally I certainly wouldn't bother renting again, not privately anyway because you just get raped in the ass spending money that you'll never see again. Would be far better off just saving up for a couple of years and putting down a big deposit on a place which is what I plan to do. I moved out when I was 18 and it was very stressful to begin with, but it does get easier once you get into a routine and understand what bills need to be paid etc, me and ex couldn't really afford to do much because she was a shit saver and spunked her wages like straight away, although we did go out every so often like go to watch racing, eating out etc. I would say stick it out and just save every penny you can till you can afford a mortgage, its a far better investment than anything you will ever do.
