  1. Yeah you could paint some parts like rocker cover, get a glanza or GT front strut brace- that will improve the front end and you can paint that to match etc white would look good on blueish silver
  2. The contamination was nowhere near the scale of the Chernobyl disaster, even though both were class 7 nuclear incidents. Reportedly nobody has died directly as a result of radiation poisoning from Fukushima, but the plant and surrounding areas will be behind wire for hundreds if not thousands of years. One of hardest things to stop is the spread of the radioactive material via weather, leakage, wildlife etc. Most clean up efforts fail as a result of these factors. Studied nuclear physics in great depth at university and it I find it totally fascinating!
  3. You mean parts in the engine bay or the bay itself?
  4. Yeah i went through all this with my GT, Just frustrating i suppose. I'll get some pics of the bearing that span etc up when i can just for lols
  5. I still have my Advance on the road so that's the main saving grace. I am getting a bit tired of it not lasting longer than a few days but I'll keep going with it not giving up on it yet. Bearings should be here Friday, will hopefully have the journals polished up and the sumo is going through a parts washer tomorrow so it can all go back together again... Sigh....
  6. Awesome. Keep changing the oil and filter as often as possible as the metallic deposits can clog the filter and cause more damage...
  7. Good idea! But i think that's what build threads are for, but i fully see where you're coming from.
  8. Get a few magnetic sump plugs too, they're pretty cheap and will help catch any small particles and stop them from going round and round the engine.
  9. Well.. It decided to blow the inlet cam bung on the timing side out on the way to work one morning last week. The first i knew of it was when the oil warning light came on. Luckily i was less than a mile from work when it came on, but everyone knows it's not ideal Cornering to the right, the top end sounded like death. I was fully prepared that something had gone quite wrong, and when i popped the bonnet there was oil EVERYWHERE! I had no choice but the try and drive it home from work too, a good 25 mile journey... I topped her back up with oil and set off. It used 7 litres of oil to get me home and the oil warning light was flickering for most of that time... Decided it was worth doing the stem seals at the same time as sorting this. So the valve stem seals were swapped with no real dramas. I did some of them myself as i do like to have a go/learn and i'm pretty confident i could do them on my own in future with the right tools Sort of pikey effort really. Filled the bore with some string to hold the valves closed. Used part of the valve spring compressor and a big bar under the fuel rail to compress the springs. Popped the collets out, spring off, out with the old in with the new, and refit. The hardest part was getting the collets back on. And sometimes the string needed readjusting to hold the valve closed enough to get at the collets. The old valve stem seals were totally fubarred on the exhaust valves. The seal had majorly deteriorated and detached in some cases- not ideal! Overall doing it was less emotional than i thought though tbh... So timed it back up, reset the base timing etc. Took her out, and no smoke on overun yay! But it's still puffing smoke out when i put my foot back down after it's been on overun/after i've lifted off the throttle. Put this down to possibly the turbo seals. No smoke on boost/idle/overun just when i open the throttle back up. Bought a CT9 rebuild kit and like most other things, we're going to have a go ourselves. No doubt i'll end up running crying to Liam when we've not balanced it right and it shits itself lol but we will see. And then on the way into work yesterday the bottom end went. I was sort of not surprised, driving it with little/no oil was most likely the result no doubt but i had no choice at the time so shit happens i suppose. Borrowed a car trailer from work and Sam kindly drove it home with his vitara for me. Took the sump off back at the lock up and yes it had indeed span the shell on number 4, although the crank seems to have survived to see another day, it would seem it's just the bearing that's had enough of life i hope. Going to polish the crank back up and put some new bearings in and go from there. The sump plug seems to have caught a lot of the shit and i hope with a good flush and a few oil changes it might be ok. As some of you may know i've also just bought a mk2 GT... so i'm going to get the engine out of that for a complete overhaul like i did the Advance engine. Strip it down to nothing, get all the maching done and build it back up from scratch with brand new everything. So if the glanza engine shits itself again i'll just put that engine in and then fully overhaul the glanza one in time to come. What a drama.. lol
  10. Could be many things such as big ends bearings, gudgeon pins, main bearings, thrust washers, cams/shims. If you can't find obviously damaged components i would change the oil pump, flush the engine and clean the sump/pickup. then change oil and filter after 500 miles then 1000 miles. Unless you have money to fully strip/rebuild the engine... Been through it a few times with my Advance and just now with my Glanza. The glanza has span a big end shell and there's some canny swarf on the magnetic sump plug and the oil it's dropped is metallic too. bad times...
  11. I may be able to spare one...
  12. Also have a jperformance system on my advance, much prefer the sound over the japspeed systems. A great exhaust without the price tag of a nur spec glwts
  13. That Pulsar looks mint! Sad though
  14. Lol we all know very well that if i put a date and location people won't just turn up. Have to pretty much beg certain local members to come out..
  15. I'm sure you can make it fit with slight modification though. i ran a jperformance decat with a power up kit and the exhaust just sat slightly different that's all no dramas. Might be worth giving it a try if you cant find anything to suit
  16. Yeah as above, wideband is a good investment, i never run a car without one now. Believe socks has one for sale on jdm ep at a good price.
  17. Ah right fair enough
  18. Why don't you want to change the stock turbo position? (out of interest)
  19. Got a tongs hybrid on my glanza but i've got a rrfpr, aftermarket ecu on the way, externally gated set up etc etc but it keeps blowing up lol. hoping to run a bar when the ecu is here but so far it's needed valve stem seals doing, the inlet cam bung popped out and it went through 7l of oil to get home from work, and now the bottom end has gone LOL But other than that i'd fully recommend a tongs hybrid seems like an awesome setup from what i've managed to drive it so far lol
  20. Someone was selling a wepr CT9 power up kit on here not too long ago, have a look through the for sale section
  21. Are you still in the Del Sol or are you back in a starlet?
  22. Measure up and go to a scrapyard first i'd say. Me and Sam both set about raiding u pull it near york. Came away with about 100 shims of varying sizes from the toyotas. Some scrappys can be funny about you removing cams though... U pull it are but they never knew lol
  23. Save up some pennies and keep your eye out for some speedlines or team dynamics or something, they usually go pretty cheap.
  24. You can just bolt it striaght up to your current set up and put the actuator off your current turbo onto the hybrid. But it may be better to get a HKS actuator if you're going hybrid. You'll be ok at standard/low boost levels on the stock injectors/ecu/pump etc but seeing as these fuel pumps have seen a lot of years now it's worth upgrading to a walboro for what it costs. Also would be worth getting a rrfpr on there to tweak the fueling up slightly to make sure it's not running lean. Depends what you want to run. the more boost you want the more you'll have to upgrade etc.
