TF035 - quicker spooling TD04 alternative?

Recommended Posts

Haha grant ' a glanza ' was that vf24 on the options list lol. I ment originally haha.

Thats true shady, but td04s are tried, tested, cheap, fairly quick spool and can delivery nice bhp figures, easy to see why they are popular lol.

Was from a group n rally imprezza bud lol i bought it with minor damage to the compressor backplate and blades and then had to beg borrow and steal till i got replacement parts as they arnt available. Minivalver blew the catredge on a vf23 and very kindly sold me the parts i wanted to repair mine. I paid 280 for it with the damage and was lucky i could get the spares to fix it. I had a vf22 i sold few years back that i realy wish i hadnt as they are just soooo pricey and hard to get!!

If you want good spool and max power of around 220bhp, look at the Greddy Td04 14B. Quite hard to find but theres a chap over on TGTT selling one brand new ;)

The problem is with ct9's is not the compressor side at all. Its the turbine, it is so restricted in its flow that it chokes the compressor. If possible, the ct9 would make a great hybrid if the turbine wheel was larger and had a different housing. This would allow the ct9 to be much more efficient and increase its flow map area, by being able to rotate the turbine faster.

The whole point of me going TF035 Is because i live in the country, Up on the north york moors, The ct9 at a bar hasnt got enough torque, And you can tell its stressed to death when under high load etc, While a TD04 Is too laggy and unsuitable.

If i threw a load of money at a good CT9 hybrid setup it would cost similiar to what i have ready to go on now! It will be more reliable (Factory turbo, Less boost etc etc) Than a bastardised CT9, And the so called CT9 Hybrids and arent even CT9s anymore, There just BASED on a CT9!

I have been in a couple of TD04 equipped starlets, And they just dont make sense to me, Yes they are a quick spooling turbo, but only when there at high boost on a very well setup car, I want full boost at 3k or so, Not 2K like the shitty CT9, And not 4k thereabouts that a TD04 has, in a small light hatch i dont see the point in the small powerband and sudden lump of power (TD04) It will just loose traction (And yes i could drive it and try keep traction, But why make it harder to drive??)

Also none of the vf series are quicker spooling than a TD04, there so much bigger its just not possible (We have tried a few turbo setups on our Impreza also)

I also chose this kit due to the compatibilty with other turbos for the future if i get bored.

Hopefully it will bridge the gap nicely beetween a ct9 and TD04, But we can only try and if its no good i already have a TD04 so i can just swap.

No harm in trying In a turbo what is essentially a smaller exhaust housing and slightly smaller compressor housing than on a TD04, It should spool nice and make good power compared to a TD04, Without stressing the engine at full boost (As i have said before why run a big turbo at low boost )

We will see anyway over the next week or so when i get the kit on, Will post info up lads

TT

Amen Toffinator! My sentiments exactly :-P

P.S a dyno screen shot would be marvellous!

We will soon see dude, And yeh after i get it all sorted i will go for a dyno run mate, Interested to see what it runs.

Well glad to see someone trying something different for a change !! Hope it goes well, i might have missed it but what management you gonna run Toff ?

Worth trying for the sake of £50 and 30mins work of swapping to my TD04 if i dont like it!

And currently a KS-Rom ecu, But i believe its been mapped in japan for a larger turbo as its stupidly rich on my CT9 Setup, i cant give it enough air lol, It also ran Broonys TD04 Setup at 1.2 Bar bang on also

Will be datalogging with a wideband as i keep turning the boost up to make sure it stays safe, If not i will buy a RRFPR, Also getting it dyno checked to make sure!

As always though i will see what its like

ye i decided to go tf035 instead of a td04

spool is so much better for a 1,3ltr

going to get it tuned at 17psi soon (1.2 bar) and exspecting around 140kw atw which is perfect for a daily driven car

they came off the early forresters 98-2000 im pretty sure

or if you really want some people mix the tf035 with the td04

Honestly? There a bigger turbo arent they though, your setup may be faster spooling than some tdo4 setups, but even on an impreza a tdo4 is the fastest spooling, will be good to see mate if its true. Any vids or dyno graphs?

I think I hit full boost ( 0.8 ) by about 3,600-700 rpm on my TD04. I don't see why people complain about lag lol. TD04 is a fine over all replacement over the CT9 any day. Why do we keep having this same discussion? lol!
