Licari3
First of all can it be done ? and is it a good idea to replace the factory turbo with two small turbos ? And if so which turbo's and manifold would be suitable for the job ?
morgey
Would be a pretty pointless exercise, the ct9 is plenty lively enough low end.
maddox710
There was something with more activity on ttgt forum about this. Wouldnt of thought there would be much point in twin tubz on a 4e. Doesnt blow enough
turbo Grant
Yeah wouldn't be worth the design and hassle
sammasson
I herd that it got tried in Holland and it failed
AdamB
The engine doesn't have enough volume to be able to flow two turbo's.
daniel_g
Compound charge it haha, would be awesome. Mind youd probably need mega cash though lol.
Licari3
Thanks for all of your replies
morgey
Im assuming compound charging is either the use of one small one large charger and using the boost from one to spool the latter?Or more small for low end large for top end?You could do what nissan japan did with the micra (march) k10 super turboSmall supercharger active from just off idle upto the point it lost its efficiency then it switches to the turbo to supply the top end grunt. This mated with a td04 or laggier setup would be quite a machine, but its a lot of work getting it all working with one another lol
PaulStarletSR
if i had the money id be up for tryin it lol
_shaun_
Compound charging is a super charger or small turbo set up to the compressor of a larger turbo to spool it. Till the turbo flows more air. I'd post a pic but on phone. I've been looking into it for the 4paw and have a few ideas but just want it up and running first Edited March 21, 2013 by _shaun_
daniel_g
Yeah ^ spot on.Lancia were the first to do it with the delta s4. Worked very well.
Addymk2
Someone tried this a few years back on TGTT, ran 2 CT9s, looked a little bit bodged but it worked. Didn't really offer any advantages though! Lol 2 cylinders trying to spool a turbo that usually used 4... Didn't go down too well.
jellybaby
The new minis have supercharger and turbo so it could b a poss if someone had cash and a spare engine etc to bench test
jordan walker
^^^^ so do the new fabia vrs and polo gti 1.4 tsi turbo & supercharger 180bhp with a dsg box they are silly quick for what they are
pick1
I think our engines would struggle to flow em to make the most out of them tbf, but seen a couple of evo's running charger and turbo and making silly power and torque Norris designs have done a couple like that I believe
ryan lang
^^^^ so do the new fabia vrs and polo gti 1.4 tsi turbo & supercharger 180bhp with a dsg box they are silly quick for what they are aswell as the ibiza bocanegra 1.4 TSi with dsg box and 180bhp its a polo with a seat shell haha
maddox710
aswell as the ibiza bocanegra 1.4 TSi with dsg box and 180bhp its a polo with a seat shell haha Or skoda fabia vrs. My bro had one for abit and they are very grunty, dont half pull there 1300kg ass about well
StuDoc 72
Saab used it in their diesel aswell more effectively than VAG did with their petrol engine. The guy that I had my turbo fixed was talking to me about trying this with me. Using something like a smart car turbo along with another that on a regular basis would be farr to big for the 4E. Its all about getting the ratios right between the 2 turbos.
5e colin
i did this but not on a 4efte i did this way back late 90s on my r5gtt and used 2 stock turbos and its well worth it for sure it depends how u do your pipe work i used 1 turbo for 2 cylinders if your going to just plump them back to back then i cant see it make much difference u will only get more heat from 1 turbo entering the other and get loads of isseus
Glanza-Ben
I used to have a twin charged polo gti it was stupid quick with the 7speed dsg box but drained fuel driving slow or at full chat
